Here's the thing though right. What if Crowley didn't actually realize he was in love? He projects his very own "fall in love" scenario (sheltering from the rain) onto Maggie and Nina, but when Nina suggests that they're an item he looks quietly dumbstruck. He doesn't even think to say anything until the others tell him he needs to. We all know he fell in love on the walls of Eden, but I don't think he *does*.

And then Aziraphale, who takes longer to get there, gets his revelation when Crowley saves his books. He's known how he feels since 1941, with all the fear and quiet devastation that goes with it. And now, now that they're free, he's ready. He wants to move on with Crowley, he touches and flirts and dances and says "our car". He's *ready*. And he's trying to show it the best way he knows how.

But Crowley doesn't know. Crowley who's loved him so well from the very beginning, DOESN'T EVEN KNOW IT'S LOVE HE'S FEELING, and he doesn't understand what Aziraphale's been trying to tell him. And now he's alone.

So I have also been thinking about this, and yeah this season really brings up a question of... how self-aware Crowley has been all this time.

Because the “it certainly looks like that from here” from Nina and his reaction to it (marked by the music as a Significant Moment) suggest that, perhaps, he is only now mapping human love onto what Aziraphale and he have both fallen into.

This is exactly what I think, and it actually matches up with that one interview David did where he said, "Crowley doesn't think of it like THAT". And yeah, we know now he was lying through his teeth but... I did get the impression that his big realization moment was actually just after that conversation with Nina. Had a very "oh, shit" look on his face.

I'm so glad this theory is gaining traction! I had the same thought a few days ago as well:

Like yes, OF COURSE it's been love the whole time, but I wouldn't put it past him to unthinkingly buy into the propaganda that angels are beings of love and demons are incapable of it.

Now that they're on their own side, now that they're trying to settle into their own humanity in a way they haven't really been able to before, I can imagine that a human contextualising it as bluntly as Nina did would give him pause and completely rock his sense of self.

His feelings for Aziraphale are an enormous part of his identity, and he's never really been free to explore it. Easy to write off any warm fuzziness and desperate devotion as natural feelings you would have for your only real companion, someone you have a convenient understanding with (the Arrangement), when there isn't any reason to dig deeper. Maybe even easy to write off any attraction as something more appropriately demonic, like greed or lust.

(Trying to look at where the furniture isn't indeed. Nina just gave him the whole damn IKEA catalogue.)

And as soon as Crowley does realise what's happening, as soon as Nina and Maggie give him the slightest nudge, he immediately goes all in.

Aziraphale fell first, Crowley fell harder.

Aziraphale understood first, Crowley understood better.

When you look closely, you will realize that the conflict at the bandstand was never truly resolved. Sure, there was a second "run away with me" moment and an "I forgive you" and whatnot, but the underlying tension and disagreement from that fight were left hanging. Then, the narrative abruptly shifted to the bookshop burning down and the apocalyptic scenario. The unresolved issues from the bandstand scene directly lead to the Final Fifteen. In fact, the Final Fifteen essentially is the bandstand confrontation, just amplified—with a larger pride flag and more tears.

Until Crowley and Aziraphale can find common ground and understand each other's perspectives, especially regarding their relationship, they won’t be able to achieve their 'South Downs'. They both need to meet in the middle, as neither should have to sacrifice their core beliefs for the other. This compromise is essential because their differing views on how to protect and love each other put them at odds. Without resolving these differences, even if they acknowledge their feelings and move to the lil charming cottage, the unresolved tension will eventually surface, threatening their relationship again and again and again. They risk slipping into a toxic dynamic if they can’t reconcile their conflicting ways of seeing things.

I don't think it's so much an argument as a different way to deal with the situation they are in. The situation they've always been in.

In the bandstand, Crowley says, let's runaway together, no one is going to help us. While Aziraphale now that he's started trying (to save Earth) won't stop until it's done (if at all possible). And really what other choice is there, wait till everything burns?

In FF they are basically faced with the same situation. Their little time as fugitives clearly wasn't as free as they hoped, given we find Crowley depressed and Aziraphale franticly trying to do all the things he loves while his anxiety bubbles underneath as if he was a high pressure cooker.

They protect Gabriel/Jim while knowing it's dangerous to do so and the big boss looks at them ruining his plans again and decides to separate them. He gives Aziraphale a 'chance' to change Heaven, even if (I think) he has no idea what Aziraphale really is like and what he wants and it's going to bite him in the ass.

And how does the couple respond? Crowley wants nothing to do with it. Even though he knows Second Coming is planned and it is the reason Gabriel was in so much trouble (and Aziraphale doesn't know this). What Aziraphale knows though, is that he has to try and change things. Because leaving them as they were (would very likely be impossible anyway) has not worked.

So he leaves to try. If at all possible.

This conflict they have is not so much between them as it is between them and the world/system they live in. Until it is changed they cannot be free to be who they want to be - a couple, together, married, lovers, best friends.... they just can't.

And it's not their fault.

I'm probably going to piss off a lot of Good Omens fans today but that's okay.

I don't think the Metatron threatened Crowley to get Aziraphale to join him. I don't think there was any big "do this or else". At least not out loud. I don't think there was anything in the coffee or any mind control.

I think Aziraphale went of his own volition. I think he went simply because he has religious trauma. I think he went because he truly thinks that he can fix Heaven.

And honestly? I don't want him to be completely wrong.

I don't want it to be some "I told you so" moment where Aziraphale realized Heaven is shitty and runs back to Crowley finally groveling because "oh you were right all along"

I want Aziraphale to make a difference. I want him to *succeed*, at least a little. I want him to try and make a dent just to realize the whole system is corrupt and take it down from the inside. If he falls, I want him to go down kicking and screaming. I want him to make a difference. That's the least he deserves.
