He has stents in the main arteries of his heart due to blocked arteries. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer and needs surgery to remove a tumor. However, medical evacuation from Gaza is extremely expensive. Coordination costs can be over $12,000 per person, and Nader's father cannot make this journey alone.
Earlier today, Nader's father had to be brought to the Intensive Care Unit at their nearest hospital. He is now on life support. The systematic destruction of Gaza's healthcare system has left 94% of hospitals destroyed, and none of the remaining 36 are able to operate at full capacity. There are medicine and medical supply shortages. In this state, healthcare bills for this care are even more expensive. It is such a hopeless feeling to see someone who is a dear friend, who you care so deeply about living with a constant threat on their life and not be able to help.
It has been 3 years of genocide in Gaza, and people like my friend @mohdayesh are still trapped in Gaza with no escape from their treacherous daily life.
Mohammed's wife is pregnant and to this day dealing with the pain of having a bullet lodged in her chest. And Mohammed is bearing the responsibility of trying to keep his family taken care of to the best of his abilities with the limited resources he can get his hands on.
Mohammad and I often spoke of his desires to start a life for himself and his wife outside of the war zone, away from the genocide, where they can finally have a taste of safety and security. My mother is in Gaza, where every day is a struggle to survive. Some time ago, she was injured when shrapnel from nearby shelling struck her back. She tried to endure the pain for as long as she could, but her condition has become much worse. She is now suffering from severe exhaustion and constant pain.
After seeing a doctor, we were told that she urgently needs emergency back surgery. The doctors warned us that the operation should be performed within the next 7 days to prevent her condition from deteriorating further.
The cost of this life-saving surgery is $1,000.
For many people, this may seem like a manageable amount. But for my family, trapped in the devastating conditions in Gaza, it is impossible. Every hour that passes brings more pain, more fear, and the risk of losing my mother.
