Hey what if Aizawa and Mic are dating but it's not really because everything worked out romantically or whatever. It's because Mic is literally the last thing Aizawa has left from a happier part of his life. With Oboro.
Because almost every memory he has of being young is the three of them. Oboro talking too excited, Mic laughing obnoxiously loud, Midnight teasing them when she joins, Aizawa pretending he wasn't enjoying it while it was all he ever wanted.
And now Oboro is gone. And Midnight is gone too. And suddenly Aizawa looks around and realizes that entire life is just… gone.
Mic is still there. Mic is in every memory with Oboro. Every stupid late night, every training session, every time they almost got themselves killed because they were young and dumb and thought they'd live forever.
So Aizawa holds onto him.
Not in some dramatic desperate way. Aizawa isn't like that. But in small ways. He lets Mic stay over, he doesn't push him away when Mic leans on him, he doesn't say no when things slowly turn into a relationship.
They both know part of the reason is because Mic is the only living piece of that life left.
And it's not fair. Aizawa knows it's not fair. Mic deserves to be loved for being Mic, for being Hizashi, not because he's the last person who remembers Oboro the same way Aizawa does.
But Aizawa also knows that if Mic disappeared too he genuinely doesn't know if there would be anything left of that part of him.
And the worst part is Mic knows all of this. He knows sometimes when Aizawa looks at him he's also seeing Oboro in the background. He knows the reason Aizawa relaxes around him is because Mic's voice still sounds like those days. And Mic still stays.
Because Mic has always loved Aizawa. Like genuinely. Not just because of Oboro or the past or nostalgia. He loved him back then too, when they were stupid teenagers and Oboro was still alive and everything felt easy.
Aizawa just never looked at him that way then. But now Aizawa needs him. Maybe not in the perfect romantic way Mic once imagined. Maybe not in a clean uncomplicated way. But he needs him. And Mic is just desperate enough to accept that.
And like. Imagine the nights where Aizawa falls asleep first and Mic is still awake next to him. And Aizawa mumbles Oboro's name in his sleep without even realizing it. And Mic just lies there staring at the ceiling trying really hard not to cry because he already knows.
He knows there will always be a part of Aizawa that belongs to someone who isn't even alive anymore.
And he loves him enough to stay anyway.
