Yes, but as a note: You must DECLARE AFFIRMATIVELY that you are invoking your right to remain silent!! If you just stay silent, you haven’t actually invoked the right. It’s an annoying legal thing, but you have to speak in order to stay silent. All you have to do is say “I am exercising my right to remain silent” (and then DO remain silent after that!).

There's a name for this in fiction: the "Engineered Heroics" trope.

My fav variant is from One Piece. The evil pirate warlord Doflamingo secretly blackmailed a king into more or less robbing his citizens blind, then puppeteered the king (through One Piece-magic, just go with me here) to slaughter them. Then Doflamingo rode in on a proverbial white horse to "save" the citizens from the very situation he created.

This is that. This is literally that. Donny put the ban into motion and now he'll "save" the app from the Biden administration, and you know that optics-obsessed politician will use it as a bargaining chip to appeal to the 170,000,000 Americans who use the app.

And in case that doesn't sound bad enough: More people in the US use that app than participated in the last presidential election. (177 million vs 156 million, to be precise.)

This is about so much more than an app. So, so, so much more.

Remember it’s a distraction. Yea, he’ll use this to be “the hero” but that’s simply his good fortune. If tiktok wasn’t banned by biden he’d still be campaigning to remove it instead. It’s shitty it was banned, don’t get me wrong, but the massive attention on this is misdirection. It’s what he wants. He has plans to conduct massive immigration raids in chicago this week and everyone’s talking about tiktok. This is VERY MUCH the point. They want us focused on the more minor shit so they can get away w their human rights abuses unnoticed.
