"There is neither happiness not misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more. He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness." - Alexandre Dumas
Mom always said, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. So that's how today was... but enjoy this video. Its a real game changer. Oh yeah, and I graduate in 30 days how crazy is that!
9 years later...
On this day exactly nine years ago, I walked alongside my mother down the highway on our way to the old country buffet. We decided to walk while my father and brother waited for whatever game they were watching on TV to be over. Half way through our journey, I turned to my mom and told her, I am going to be a vegetarian. Confused, she look over at me asked why... and I honestly can't remember the reason I gave her. In her usual style, she tried to tempt me out of it saying that means no more salchicha (her word for sausage). Confident I would be able to overcome any temptation as we headed to a buffet of salchicha and other meats, I told her it would not be a problem. If you asked her now, she will tell you she thought it was just a phase I would grow out of. Well 9 years later I am still stuck in the phase, not sure why I became vegetarian or why I keep this lifestyle other than it just feels right. But even after nine years I still hear these gems on a daily basis. 1. Is it like a religious thing? 2. Hey, do you want a piece of my (insert meat based food here) 3. Well, What do you eat? 4. But, don't you miss eating meat? 5. I thought you were hispanic? 6. Can I eat this in front of you? 7. So, what about fish? 8. But you don't get the right nutrients like protein and iron. 9. I just don’t understand why vegetarians eat meat substitutes, if you’re going to eat a vegetarian sausage you might as well eat the real thing/why try and copy meat if you don’t want to eat it I am not even going to justify them with an answer, but if you ask these questions please stop and think it for one second and then stop. Lots of Love, Pookie
Today, I traveled to Syracuse to attend the central New York communications consortium career fair. When you're about to graduate no one, and I mean no one, forgets to remind you of the importance of networking! Go to job fairs, meet the right people, say the right things and you'll jump start your career no problem. You hear that a lot from people with jobs, but as we start to close this last chapter of our young adult lives I realize that days like today are important, but for entirely different reasons. Joy, Rosswill and I got a bus with no idea of what companies we were going to talk to. With resumes and business cards in hand we marched into the career fair, stumble around for an hour or two, and met no one worth creating a strong promising connection. So STARVING, the three of us went on a search for sustenance. In our usual British accents we clamored around the university doing nothing more the giggling and taking photos. My favorite part had to be when a police officer approached us in a DD to ask us where we were from ( in reference to our accents ). With all the laughter today, we will never have wrinkles. When we get our big girl jobs, days like this will surely be fewer and farer between, so even though it's important to network, don't ever put it ahead of memory making.
As I start to close the college chapter of my life, I look back and realize I probably should have blogged it. Lucky for me, my roommate (the most amazing person I know) has captured most of these moments on snapchat... Now, I am a snapchat stttttaaarrr.
