CR tests of 23 popular protein powders and shakes found that most contain high levels of lead.
supplement loophole strikes again
Where is it coming from? I mean, how fucking hard is it to make a protein powder that doesn't contain heavy metals? You would think it'd be pretty easy.
Plants grown in contaminated soil or water. Heavy metals are an industrial input and waste byproduct and poor or badly enforced regulations mean that it leaches into the environment. Batteries in particular. Historically, lead in particular was in leaded gasoline, in pesticides, ubiquitous in consumer products and buildings as lead inks and paint, older water pipes are leaching lead into the water. All that historical contamination is still around.
Its actually pretty hard to make food that isn't contaminated with heavy metals tbh. You have to test the air, water, soil and all your packaging and equipment.
