Welcome to Vancouver Island 🇨🇦 It's not a small Island that's for sure! In fact, it's the largest island in British Columbia. I'm staying on Whidbey Island, north of Seattle for the week and wow the views are incredible. I biked to a place called Hidden Beach and met some locals who told me they often come here to watch orcas and whales (I didn't see any but I will be back). It's my first time in the Seattle area and the natural landscape is taking my breath away. The new winter water pump system is ready to go! 💧 This was the last mod I wanted to make for camping in freezing weather. ❄️🚐 Before I explain the new system, a word on winter camping: to make sure the stock pipes and onboard pump does not freeze and get damaged, I winterize the van. Winterization is a common process that involves draining the lines and then filling them up with antifreeze. As you can imagine, you can't use the faucet with running water anymore. Brushing your teeth or washing your face involves this annoying process of using a bottle instead of the regular faucet. It's cumbersome and pretty wasteful. 👷‍♀️⚒️ So I decided to create my own water system for the winter and plug it to the unused faucet - disconnected from the lines with antifreeze. I added a cheap 12V pump that feeds from a regular water jug and connected it to the faucet. And voilà ! I have running water onboard AND I can keep the rest of the lines winterized. When I go on a hike or stay at a friend's house during the trip to Alaska, I will be able to quickly disconnect this setup and let it drain. Then I can tuck away the jug. The small line to the faucet drains in 5s. Easy peasy!
