Yeah, this new trend is honestly really shitty. It may look to some that flag makers are just slapping random colors together, but honestly the part that takes the longest in making a flag is figuring out how to design it. It takes time to put one together and there’s often a lot of love and pride put into it, regardless of the quality. There’s a difference between using a pride flag as it is intended, to show pride in yourself as whatever identity you are, and taking it, stripping it of its original meaning, and putting a new one on that the artist did not intend. People with lesser recognized identities were told to make their own symbols. Yet even when they have done so, the message becomes that they’re not allowed even this, because then they will just be taken from them. This is just completely disrespectful. Regardless of your thoughts on who does or does not belong in the LGBT+ community, taking something you did not make and trying to make it mean something else just because you disagree that their identity exists is horrible behavior. Please stop treating people this way and be more respectful. Go ahead and make your own flags like we were told to! We’re not gonna touch your ADT flag, for example, because we recognize that you’re allowed the symbols you make and the basic dignity of not having it taken from you. So if you’re considering making a blog like that, I hope you reconsider.
