Poseidon is a god of the sea, earthquakes, floods, drought, and horses. Excluding the universal offerings, some common offerings include:

Lessons from Poseidon

I haven't been Pagan for long (only a few months or so), but in this time I have learned much.

Poseidon came into my life and during my interactions and studies of Him so far, He has already caused me to have many realizations about my life:

First, like the ocean, life is turbulent. It ebbs and flows, and sometimes you have no choice but to follow where it takes you. Sometimes you become a different person for having gone to those uncharted waters. It's scary sometimes, but there's much to explore and much to learn, and you don't always get there by staying on the shore of your comfort zone.

Sometimes the tide will sweep you off your feet. The waters will be rough, and you'll be thrashed around in a harsh storm. Despite this, the water will become calm at some point. And when it does, you'll be a better person for enduring the turbulence and learning from it.

Secondly, it's okay to be angry. Poseidon often gets harshly criticized for His anger or "moodiness" (by many who read the myths, not necessarily polytheists), and I find it unwarrented, if not hypocritical. We all get angry, we all experience a spectrum of moods. We can get destructive in our anger, whether it be mentally or physically. It is a part of life. We get angry about a spectrum of things as well: from cards we get dealt in life to minor things like rudeness in public.

And that's okay. Poseidon has taught me this anger is nothing to be ashamed of. And, sometimes we have every right to be angry. Especially if we feel we've been wronged. He has also shown me this anger eventually ebbs.

Due to turbulence in my life, I thought I'd harbor anger and bitterness toward it forever. Poseidon has shown me this is not the case. It'll ebb and flow, just as calm ebbs and flows.

I am so grateful to Him for what He has shown me so far. I am sure as time goes by I will learn much more, but this is what I have come to see so far. I am so reverent to Him for seeking me and offering to show me the way.

this is a list of small devotional acts to honor and bond with poseidon, greek god of the sea, storms, earthquakes (and other natural disasters), and horses.

➭ go swimming

➭ visit a beach or any body of water (if possible)

➭ wear more blue, teal, beige, ocean-y colors

➭ collect seashells

➭ use seashells in spells

➭ use crystals associated with water, like aquamarine, turquoise, selenite, etc

➭ try to interact with horses, or just research them

➭ read some of his myths

➭ support anti rape and assault movements

➭ clean up your local beach

➭ use a metal straw and reusable water bottle to keep the oceans clean

➭ get a pet fish

➭ have emergency plans for natural disasters

➭ alternatively, research natural disasters

➭ watch horse races

➭ watch documentaries about marine life

➭ drink more water (hydrate or die), you should aim for a minimum of two liters, but I wouldn’t recommend going over 3.5

➭ take a bath with an ocean themed bath bomb

➭ feed the seagulls if there are any in your area

➭ collect rain water

➭ dance in the rain

Everyday Worship: Poseidon

Go litter picking on the beach and clean any rubbish I take on a day there.

Spend time in the ocean just hanging out.

Go rock pooling and collect seaweed to identify

Respect and campaign for the ocean.

Promote awareness of the dangers of swimming in the ocean and respect for the flag system.

Be nice to seagulls and give them little treats of my own food.

Rescue seagull chicks when they fall off the roof.

Learn and continue to learn about my local coastal ecosystem!

How would you describe your relationship with Poseidon? 🌊💕

To me my relationship with Poseidon feels like that of an strict, caring, but a bit distant father. He wants what's best for me, yet he allows me to make my own choices, and if I screw up he will be there to comfort me and help me get through it.

He puts a lot of emphasis on learning to ride my emotions instead of ignoring them or trying to push them away. And he makes it feel safe to do so, because he always has my back, he will never let me fall even if there's a giant "earthquake" going on.

He's not always around, but if I need him he will always show up and be by my side.

I really don’t understand how it’s controversial to say that you should respect other peoples deities.

You don’t need to work with Zeus or Poseidon or other male deities (because trust me, 99% of them have r/pe myths) but you should always respect them and be mindful, because other people do work with them and other people do have very beautiful relationships with them & it’s just the right thing to do.

Don’t hate on things you don’t understand.

Poseidon is turbulent, tumultuous, and as unpredictable as the sea itself. He is fierce and terrifying. He is the sensation of the riptide pulling you under and of brine filling your throat. He is the safety of the shore and the relief of gasping for air. Salvation or destruction; He's no less worthy of love and worship.

It's been so long since I used this tumblr. I've had a pretty rough time emotionally and also spirituality, I was feeling completely disconnected from the gods and from myself.

But yesterday I managed to give some offerings to Poseidon and he actually came through oracle and pendulum.

He wasn't mad or anything at the fact that I pulled away, but rather serious about it.

He let me know that I needed to commit, that I needed to be consistent with my worship. It don't always has to look like a highly complex ritual or an extensive and glamorous offerings. But it has to be consistent and real, after all that's what relationships are based on.

Consistency is what matters, you can surprise someone with a big luxurious present or an amazing almost perfect date, but if the rest of the time you don't pay attention to them, if you just stop showing them you love them, if you don't seem to care about the relationship, then most probably that relationship won't last long, and that other person will pull away.

The same happens with the gods, no, they don't get mad, they won't abandon you just like that; but they will become distant, because after all, if you don't care about the relationship why should they.

Small and real things are what matters the most. Cleaning their altar, lighting some incense, saying good morning/night, sharing our meals with them, offering them stuff we bought at the store because it reminded us of them (even if it's just a piece of chocolate or a nice rock we found in our way there).

So I guess my final thought is: be consistent with your worship, but keep it real. The little things we keep on doing are what really matters.
