Should have done this a long time ago but whatever.

ANYWAY; I'm Roy, he/him, from Dublin

- I speak fluent Irish and English, and some basic German and Scots Gaidhlig. I used to be able to speak decent conversational Italian but can't anymore.

- I'm over three months clean from narcotics and hope to start some kind of formal education in September.

- I love music. I can play guitar, bass and drums but I'm not currently in a band. I listen to a wide range of stuff depending on my mood/what's accessible, and I like albums more than particular artists.

- I don't read as much as I probably should, but I love anything written by Irvine Welsh, some Stephen King and Leigh Bardugo. Not really into non-fiction, but I don't mind the occasion autobiography if the person's interesting. I think the one by Blink-182's Mark Hoppus is pretty good, as well as Flea from RHCP.

- I write a lot, mainly fanfiction. Currently obsessed with Trainspotting so if you have ideas...stick them in the asks and I'll write it. I have wayy too much free time.

Series I like: Love/Hate, Half Man, Queer as Folk (UK), Ted Lasso, Normal People, BBC Sherlock, House MD, Malcolm in the Middle, Dexter, Skins ... probably more that I can't remember.

Movies: Trainspotting (and T2), Velvet Goldmine, Breakfast on Pluto, A Real Pain, Mysterious Skin, Sleepers, Sing Street, Shallow Grave, Nowhere (1997), Small Things Like These, I Saw The TV Glow, ...again probably more that haven't come to mind.

Interests: besides the above, psychology, history, DIY (clothes, not like shelves and stuff), art and football.

reminder that the books themselves also suck ass actually. there's an entire plotline endorsing slavery. the one character who advocates to end slavery is bullied and made fun of. the one slave who doesnt like being enslaved is bullied and treated as an outcast. the bankers are the picture of racist stereotypes of jewish people. the one asian character is named fckn Cho Chang. the worldbuilding SUCKS. fuck harry potter and fuck rowling. stop giving her your money.

Too ashamed to say it in a meeting but I need to get it off my chest. I really fucking miss being in active addiction.

Like obviously I miss H, but I'm talking specifically about the way life was on it. I miss waking up at whatever time and not worrying about eating or fucking hypersexuality that plagued me since I was nine or ten. I miss not worrying about relationships or what anyone thinks of me. I miss not thinking about stuff like my gender or mental health stuff.

I don't know. It was kind of like there a thick blanket between me and the rest of the world, and I still feel disconnected but it's not warm under it anymore. It's cold and I'm anxious and unhappy.

Heroin completely numbed me and it's easy to forgot how horrible parts of life on it were whenever I get super down.

Ugh. Glen Hansard, guys. What the fuck?

Somehow I managed not to cry at work all day yesterday and only let tears fall once we were home for the evening and I was making dinner.

I wanted to post something here yesterday but the exhaustion of it all got to me. I'm by no means a longtime, diehard fan or anything. Don't come for me, but I STILL have not seen Once (I know, I know! Horrible). I guess now I have to make time...hopefully this weekend I can rent it and also The Commitments.

In the meantime, I've been catching up on his entire catalog. Solo stuff, The Frames, The Swell Season. I had already listened to early Frames albums in recent months. A couple of months ago, this song made me think so much of my novel's MMC and his broken heart that I wrote an extra scene into what I thought was my finished first draft. It ended up being quite moving, I think.

Fun fact I did not know until this morning btw...John Carney had Cillian Murphy in mind for the lead in Once, but that fell through and Glen Hansard was convinced to be the star.

Especially don't have kids if you only want a son/daughter, and would rather no kids to the alternative. Don't have kids if you're not capable of loving them if they like the same sex or or don't identify with the one they were assigned at birth.

Don't become a parent if your kid deviating from the person you wanted them to me means you'd rather you weren't one at all.
