Post Grad Slump

The random findings & babblings of a twenty-something living in Philadelphia. I graduated college in 2009 and I'm still getting used to this thing we call the "real world." My favorite things include Philadelphia (the city, the sports, the food), traveling, ice cream, giraffes, taking pictures, & finding recipes online that I'll probably never actually get around to making. oh, hello.

it’s been quite a while since i’ve posted anything. i feel so out of the loop.

work & summer have been busy and i haven’t been around much to check up on any of you lovely people (unless we follow each other on instagram).

let’s play a little catch up.

-end of may-early june: israel. 10 days in a beautiful country with amazing new friends. we had the best weather and visited some truly amazing places. from the beaches of tel aviv, to ATVing in the golan heights/along the border of syria, to touring a kibbutz on the gaza border, to climbing masada, to camel riding, to visiting the western wall, and finally to sharing our last shabbat in israel in jerusalem. it’s really no surprise i slept 10 hours straight on the flight home.

-taylor swift! i don’t think there is much more to say here besides that it/she was amazing. you know what wasn’t amazing? meeting my friends at a bar afterwards and immediately cutting my foot on glass and being carried out of the bar by a bouncer. the er & stitches weren’t really that great either.

-oh, and then i fractured my arm. i told you this summer has been busy.

-billy joel! with about half of philadelphia... or it felt that way anyway. he always puts on a great show.

-diner en blanc. of course, it was pouring rain. nothing like a few thousand people, all dressed in white, crowded on hot public transportation and walking a mile to an open field to really get the mood going. once the rain stopped and the umbrellas came down we had an awesome night. sure, our hair was a mess, we were soaking wet, we ate totally soggy food, but... we made it work. plus, friends, sparklers, & dancing can really boost anyone’s mood.

-last friday a few friends and i went to check out le bok fin. a pop up on top of a now closed school in south philly. it’s only open for another 2 weeks but if you haven’t been i highly suggest it. the food is decent, the drinks are good (just wine & beer), but the views(!) are better.

i hope everyone had a great summer and hopefully i’ll see your faces around here real soon.

first photos of wet hot american summer: first day of camp are up on buzzfeed.

my friends and i are already planning a premier party.

camp themed, of course. snacks, dress code, games, etc.

we’ll watch the movie first and then the first episode.

i know a lot of people who never went to overnight camp don’t understand this movie, but it is accurate & perfect. plus, the cast was/IS amazing.

5:30AM.

that was the time my smoke detector decided to start beeping.

5:35AM.

that was the time i threw on shoes and went down to my building’s front desk. they handed me a battery and told me someone would be in around 7:30/8AM. LOL.

5:37AM.

that was the time i walked into my bedroom and remembered my smoke detector is about 5ft above me.

5:39AM.

that was the time i shut my bedroom door and camped out on the sofa with the TV on.

6:45AM.

that was the time i finally decided to start getting ready for work and just deal with the beeping.

7:20AM.

that was the time i saw maintenance while leaving the building. they told me i could always come down to the front desk for a new battery. i told him i already did that about 2 hours earlier and reminded him that the smoke detector is incredibly out of reach to any normal sized human.

a few friends and i bought tickets to hear sarah koenig & julie snyder speak later this week.

In their live presentation, Koenig and Snyder will take the audience backstage in the creation of this cultural phenomenon. Using some of their favorite tape, they'll tell personal behind-the-scenes stories, explain how they constructed certain episodes, and allow the audience to follow the ups and downs of creating a new form of modern journalism.

i think it’ll be really interesting!

i should probably get around to finishing that last episode though...

iPhone Charger Cases

i have the 5 and i’m looking for a case that will charge my phone while i’m on vacation (read: not near an outlet at all times).

several weeks ago my friend asked if i wanted to start playing mahjong. i’ve only ever heard of it because my grandmother used to play and i remember setting up the game for her.

that being said, i figured why not?

last night we had our first meeting. we had another friend who has been playing teach us. it was... hard! so many rules. i felt so bad for her, we had so many questions and it took us FOREVER to even remotely understand what we were doing. but, 2.5 hours later i think we kind of, sort of, maybe get it?!

next game is in 2 weeks and i’m kind of looking forward to it(!).

sorry for neglecting this corner. the weather has been getting nicer & things have been busy, busy.

work - they shifted some things at the office and now i have double the work. it’s not terrible, but it does keep me busy.

food - it’s that time again - yogorino! my go to for all things frozen yogurt. there are only 3 in the US (2 in philly & 1 in nyc). if you follow my instagram you’ll see i’m still all about brunch, too. especially if it’s boozy. if you’re looking for a good brunch place check out pennsylvania 6 - they’re doing a bubbly brunch now for $15 (bottemless bubblys & bloodys for 2 hours with a brunch entree).

social - trying to spend as much time outside as possible. this past sunday we went to the clover market in chestnut hill. it was so nice out and they had tons of vendors (location varies). softball also started back up so that’s been a fun addition to saturday afternoons.

health - okay, time to get serious. i need to get back to spin & yoga more regularly (we won’t talk about how i canceled spin yesterday in a favor of a manicure). also, eating...and yes, i’m aware i just dedicated an entire category to FOOD.

travel - 42 days until israel! so excited to go back & travel around the country. not so excited for the 12 hour flight.

last night i went into a deep, dark, black hole on instagram. we’ve all done this so i feel no shame admitting this.

like, it was really bad. we’re talking 7 weeks deep (not 64, but still) on someone’s instagram who doesn’t even know who i am (same high school, different age, 1.2 billion mutual friends/acquaintances).

that being said, i accidentally LIKED a photo from above time period and FREAKED out. i’m usually so careful about this that i was actually PISSED. how do you accidentally like a photo on instagram you ask? well, i HAD TO see who was tagged, tapped the photo, and then the next thing i know i see that DAMN HEART.

i then remembered i was logged into my OTHER instagram (praise hands emoji) and realized i should probably only stalk using a food instagram based out of philadelphia. just to be, ya know, safe.
