I love everything about this, except the part about portkeys not taking you back to the place of origin. They do in fact have a "return trip" of sorts enabled. It's explained in the books. That's why Harry reached for the cup in the first place. He knew the portkey would take him back.

All the rest of this I absolutely adore though. It's awesome and headcanon has been accepted.
