“When you are before the altar where Christ reposes, you ought no longer to think that you are amongst men; but believe that there are troops of angels and archangels standing by you, and trembling with respect before the sovereign Master of Heaven and earth. Therefore, when you are in church, be there in silence, fear, and veneration.”
- Saint John Chrysostom

okay okay but the literal use of eating, of quenching a thirst and sustaining a life, of becoming and belonging that is irrevocably entwined in receiving the Eucharist. the refuge and the untouchable. the brief and the everlasting. i might be going feral
"God never meant man to be a purely spiritual creature. That is why He uses things like bread and wine to put new life into us. You may think this rather crude and unspiritual. God does not; He invented eating. He likes matter. He invented it."
C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
Let us not as much seek To be consoled, as to console. To be understood, as to understand. To be loved, as to love.

Tomorrow will worry about itself; today has enough trouble of it's own.
We should be willing to go beyond our usual preferences to find what is good and true wherever it might lie. Otherwise, we might be ignoring one of the ways God is speaking to us.

The Parlatory of the Carthusian Monastery of San Martino, Naples, with Mannerist frescoes painted by Advino Nucci in 1596.
This room was used on the infrequent occasions when the cloistered monks who lived in the monastery met with visitors from the outside world.

Happy Feast Day Saint Francis Borgia 1510-1572 Feast day: October 10 Patronage: Invoked against earthquakes, Portugal, and Rota, Marianas
Saint Francis Borgia was born into a noble family in Spain. He married Eleanor de Castro and they had 8 children. In 1546, his wife died and after settling his estates and children, he entered the Jesuit order. Tested by his Superior because of his nobility, he did menial tasks humbly and without complaint. He was a great preacher and administrator, appointed by St. Ignatius as Superior of the order. He established many colleges throughout Europe, including the Gregorian University in Rome and sent missionaries around the world. He is considered the second founder of the Jesuit order. {website}
