can we just talk about the time that Lupin was recovering from a full moon and Snape taught the DADA class and made all the students write essays on how to kill werewolves for Lupin to read when he got back I hate Snape so much itās not funny
Lupin gets back and he feels like crap and suddenly his best friendās son is writing an essay about how to kill him like that is so fucked up
Bear in mind that an ex-Death Eater does this to someone who was in the Order, risked his life fighting against said Death Eaters and lost his best friends to the Death Eaterās genocidal leader, for the sole purpose of screwing him over, and as far as we know he experiences no consequences whatsoever for doing so.
And if that wasnāt enough, he made them write those essays hoping some of them would realize Lupinās a werewolf. And one did, but Hermione is a fucking DECENT HUMAN BEING and said nothing. Apparently the āinsufferable know-it-all'Ā can keep her mouth closed, when itās for something important. Just like SnapeĀ didnāt do at the end of the book.
Iām getting mad, so hereās something Iāve realized while reading The Order of the Phoenix again. (Please keep in mind that my books are in Italian and some concepts might be hard to explain, I apologize for my English mistakes)
In chapter 14, when The Trio talked with Sirius, he said that two years before Dolores Umbridge had written a law against werewolves that made it almost impossible for Lupin to find a job.
Now ask yourself this question. Why two years?
What had happened two years before? During Harryās third year? Oh, right. The Magical World had discovered that one of Hogwartsā teachers (someone who was in constant conctat with their children) was a werewolf. Does that ring any bell?
But thatās not all! If we take a look at chapter 15, in the Daily Prophet article we can see a familiar name: Remus Lupin. In a newspaper. Where everyone can read it. āThe werewolf Remus Lupinā. No wonder he couldnāt find a job! And itās not the first time the Daily Prophet has written about him, as itās stated in the article itself. There must have been a huge scandal when it had all come out.
So basically, when Snape decided he couldnāt bear not having what he wanted (for example, SIRIUS BLACK GETTING KISSED BY A DEMENTOR) and spilled the secret, he didnāt only tell the whole school. He didnāt only tell the kidsā parents. The told the whole Magical World.
He told the whole Magical World that a man who had kept his condition secret all his life was a werewolf.
And the Magical World responded with a law against werewolves.
So, basically, Snape didnāt only ruin Remus Lupinās life. He ruined the life of every single werewolf in the UK.
But, you know. Bravest man I ever knew.
Hi! I am also a slytherin/horned serpent/f/bi/twentysomething/recently hardcore ship drarry! And I love your blog! <3 x
Hi back! Thatās such a cute message, and wow, we have a lot in common then :D Thanks so so much x
āFat acceptanceā blogs urging overweight people to shed negative feelings about their body image can lead to healthier diet and exercise choices, a study has found.
TheĀ fat acceptance movement, which seeks to foster a support network among overweight people, has inspired a plethora of blogs and web forums such asĀ Corpulent,Ā Fat HeffalumpĀ andĀ The Rotund ā an online community thatās become known as the āfatosphereā.
In a study published in the journalĀ Qualitative Health Research, researchers from Monash University, the University of New England and the University of Canberra interviewed 44 fatosphere bloggers from Australia, the US and the UK about how their involvement in the movement had changed them.
āThereās been a lot of criticism of the movement that it promotes obesity and encourages people to give up on weight loss and makes their health worse,ā said one of the researchers, Dr Samantha Thomas, a Senior Research Fellow at Monash Universityās Department of Marketing.
āWe saw there was a lot of opinion about the movement but very few people had actually studied it.ā
Interviews with the respondents revealed many had experienced feelings of worthlessness, shame, crash diets, cycles of starvation and binge eating and laxative abuse before discovering the fatosphere.
āHaving that support and feeling empowered, people slowly found that their health behaviours began to change dramatically. For example, many people suddenly felt confident to do swimming, something they would not have done before,ā she said.
āPeople shifted their focus away from weight loss and more toward health. A lot of people started to take part in physical activity not as a way to lose weight but because they enjoyed it. Instead of pounding it out on the treadmill they start playing with their kids. Itās actually a massive shift in the way they looked at things.ā
Shifting the focus away from restricting food and toward listening to the bodyās needs could also lead to better food choices, said Dr Thomas.
āThere are actually a lot of lessons for public health here,ā she said.
āThe term fat acceptance is really confronting for people. Thatās why we have seen a lot of blame and criticism. Society tells us itās not OK to be fat for a whole bunch of moral and medical reasons,ā she said.
āThis study shows that far from promoting obesity and promoting negative health behaviours, the movement is really positive for some peopleās health.ā
So basically, if fat-bashers actually cared about peopleās health (as they so often claim to as an excuse for their intolerance and hatred) then theyād actually support fat acceptance instead of trying to tear body-positive folks down?
Surprise! When youāre not made to feel miserable about yourself, you become more motivated to take care of the self that you have. Who knew?

Helpful things for action writers to remember
Sticking a landing will royally fuck up your joints and possibly shatter your ankles, depending on how high youāre jumping/falling from. Thereās a very good reason free-runners dive and roll.Ā
Hand-to-hand fights usually only last a matter of seconds, sometimes a few minutes. Itās exhausting work and unless you have a lot of training and history with hand-to-hand combat, youāre going to tire out really fast.Ā
Arrows are very effective and you canāt just yank them out without doing a lot of damage. Most of the time the head of the arrow will break off inside the body if you try pulling it out, and arrows are built to pierce deep. An arrow wound demands medical attention.Ā
Throwing your opponent across the room is really not all that smart. Youāre giving them the chance to get up and run away. Unless youāre trying to put distance between you so you can shoot them or something, donāt throw them.Ā
Everyone has something called aĀ āflinch responseā when they fight. This is pretty much the brainās way of telling you āget the fuck out of here or weāre gonna die.ā Experienced fighters have trained to suppress this. Think about how long your character has been fighting. A character in a fist fight for the first time is going to take a few hits before their survival instinct kicks in and they start hitting back. A character in a fist fight for the eighth time that week is going to respond a little differently.Ā
ADRENALINE WORKS AGAINSTĀ YOU WHEN YOU FIGHT. THIS IS IMPORTANT. A lot of times people think that adrenaline will kick in and give you some badass fighting skills, but itās actually the opposite. Adrenaline is what tires you out in a battle and it also affects the fighterās efficacy - meaning it makes them shaky and inaccurate, and overall they lose about 60% of their fighting skill because their brain is focusing on not dying. Adrenaline keeps you alive,Ā it doesnāt give you the skill to pull off a perfect roundhouse kick to the opponentās face.Ā
Swords WILL bend or break if you hit something hard enough. They also dull easily and take a lot of maintenance. In reality, someone who fights with a sword would have to have to repair or replace it constantly.
Fights get messy. Thereās blood and sweat everywhere, and that will make it hard to hold your weapon or get a good grip on someone.Ā
A serious battle also smells horrible. Thereās lots of sweat, but also the smell of urine and feces. After someone dies, their bowels and bladder empty. There might also be some questionable things on the ground which can be very psychologically traumatizing. Remember to think about all of the characterās senses when theyāre in a fight. Everything WILL affect them in some way.Ā
If your sword is sharpened down to a fine edge, the rest of the blade canāt go through the cut you make. Youāll just end up putting a tiny, shallow scratch in the surface of whatever you strike, and you could probably break your sword.Ā
ARCHERS ARE STRONG TOO. Have you ever drawn a bow? It takes a lot of strength, especially when youāre shooting a bow with a higher draw weight. Draw weight basically meansĀ āthe amount of force you have to use to pull this sucker back enough to fire it.ā To give you an idea of how that works, hereās a helpful link to tell you about finding bow sizes and draw weights for your characters. Ā (CLICK ME)
If an archer has to use a bow theyāre not used to, it will probably throw them off a little until theyāve done a few practice shots with it and figured out its draw weight and stability.Ā
People bleed. If they get punched in the face, theyāll probably get a bloody nose. If they get stabbed or cut somehow, theyāll bleed accordingly. And if theyāve been fighting for a while, theyāve got a LOT of blood rushing around to provide them with oxygen. Theyāre going to bleed a lot.Ā
Hereās a link to a chart to show you how much blood a person can lose without dying. (CLICK ME)Ā
If you want a more in-depth medical chart, try this one. (CLICK ME)
Hopefully this helps someone out there. If you reblog, feel free to add more tips for writers or correct anything Iāve gotten wrong here.Ā
How to apply Writing techniques for action scenes:
- Short sentences. Choppy. One action, then another. When thereās a lull in the fight, take a moment, using longer phrases to analyze the situationāthen dive back in. Snap, snap, snap. - Same thing with words - short, simple, and strong in the thick of battle. Save the longer syllables for elsewhere. - Characters do not dwell on things when they are in the heat of the moment. They will get punched in the face. Focus on actions, not thoughts. - Go back and cut out as many adverbs as possible. - No seriously, if thereās ever a time to use the strongest verbs in your vocabulary - Bellow, thrash, heave, shriek, snarl, splinter, bolt, hurtle, crumble, shatter, charge, raze - itās now. - Donāt forget your other senses. People might not even be sure what they saw during a fight, but they always know how they felt. - Taste: Dry mouth, salt from sweat, copper tang from blood, etc - Smell: OP nailed it - Touch: Headache, sore muscles, tense muscles, exhaustion, blood pounding. Bruised knuckles/bowstring fingers. Injuries that ache and pulse, sting and flare white hot with pain. - Pain will stay with a character. Even if itās minor. - Sound and sight might blur or sharpen depending on the character and their experience/exhaustion. Colors and quick movements will catch the eye. Loud sounds or noises from behind may serve as a fighterās only alert before an attack. - If something unexpected happens, shifting the characterās whole attention to that thing will shift the Audienceās attention, too. - Aftermath. This is where the details resurface, the characters pick up things they cast aside during the fight, both literally and metaphorically. Fights are chaotic, fast paced, and self-centered. Characters know only their self, their goals, whatās in their way, and the quickest way around those threats. The aftermath is when people can regain their emotions, their relationships, their rationality/introspection, and anything else they couldnāt afford to think or feel while their lives were on the line.
Do everything you can to keep the fight here and now. Maximize the physical, minimize the theoretical. Keep things immediate - no theories or what ifs.
If writing a strategist, who needs to think ahead, try this: keep strategy to before-and-after fights. Lay out plans in calm periods, try to guess what enemies are thinking or what they will do. During combat, however, the character should think about his options, enemies, and terrain in immediate terms; that is, in shapes and direction. (Large enemy rushing me; dive left, circle around / Scaffolding on fire, pool below me / two foes helping each other, separate them.)
Lastly, after writing, read it aloud. Anyplace your tongue catches up on a fast moving scene, edit. Smooth action scenes rarely come on the first try.

The Three Laws of Fandom
If you wish to take part in any fandom, you need to accept and respect these three laws.
If you arenāt able to do that, then you need to realise that your actions are making fandom unsafe for creators. That you are stifling creativity.
Like vaccination, fandom only works if everyone respects these rules. Creators need to be free to make their fanart, fanfics and all other content without fear of being harassed or concern-trolled for their creative choices, no matter whether you happen to like that content or not.
The First Law of Fandom
Donāt Like; Donāt Read (DL;DR)
It is up to you what you see online. It is not anyone elseās place to tell you what you should or should not consume in terms of content; it is not up to anyone else to police the internet so that you do not see things you do not like. At the same time, it is not up to YOU to police fandom to protect yourself or anyone else, real or hypothetical.
There are toolsĀ out there to help protect you if you have triggers or squicks. Learn to use them, and to take care of your own mental health. If you are consuming fan-made content and you find that you are disliking it - STOP.
The Second Law of Fandom
Your Kink Is Not My Kink (YKINMK)
Simply put, this means that everyone likes different things. Itās not up to you to determine what creators are allowed to create. Itās not up to you to police fandom.Ā
If you donāt like something, you can post meta about it or create contrarian content yourself, seek to convert other fans to your way of thinking.Ā Ā
But you have no right to say to any creator āI do not like this, therefore you should not create it. Nobody should like this. It should not exist.ā
Itās not up to you to decide what other people are allowed to like or not like, to create or not to create. Thatās censorship. Donāt do it.
The Third Law of Fandom
Ship And Let Ship (SALS)
Much (though not all) fandom is about shipping. There are as many possible ships as there are fans, maybe more. You may have an OTP (One True Pairing), you may have a NOTP, that pairing that makes you want to barf at the very thought of its existence.
Itās not up to you to police ships or to determine what other people are allowed to ship. Just because you find that one particular ship problematic or disgusting, does not mean that other people are not allowed to explore its possibilities in their fanworks.
You are free to create contrarian content, to write meta about why a particular ship is repulsive, to discuss it endlessly on your private blog with like-minded persons.
It is not appropriate to harass creators about their ships, it is not appropriate to demand they do not create any more fanworks about those ships, or that they create fanwork only in a manner that you deem appropriate.
These three laws add up to the following:
You are not paying for fanworks content, and you have no rights to it other than to choose to consume it, or not consume it. If you do choose to consume it, do not then attack the creator if it wasnāt to your taste. Thatās the height of bad manners.
Be courteous in fandom. It makes the whole experience better for all of us.
Yup.
Slaps onto blog.
Basically this.
