The whole thing about Skins: Fire with the two boys chasing after Effie again is done so well. Originally Effie chooses Freddie because it was what was right for her and rejected Cook. But as soon as she’s in a situation where Dominic and her boss both love her she ends up choosing the man that resembled Freddie and instead rejected Dominic who was right for her. It’s like some twisted way of showing Effie was still stuck in her teen years thinking about Freddie and her choosing her boss, but towards the end she finally owns up to her actions. She says I did something wrong and I’ll face the consequences which she never did in her teens. I think Skins: Fire shows her growth beautifully.

All mankind needs to become the monster he truly is, is being told he can, and when this world has burned, there will be no one… no one but you and me, sister.

‘Although the reunion doesn’t cast her in a new, empathetic light, the final shot causes some hesitation, even some sympathy, as director Shannon Murphy lingers on Villanelle in close-up. This really shows the depth of Jodie Comer’s performance; it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role.’
