what's crazy is byler will probably be the main long lasting thing that survives from this show in terms of pop culture relevance because the fandom will keep creating amazing art and fan fictions and maybe even one day large scale media all inspired from byler. while the ga that they tried so hard to cater to will move onto whatever new shiny netflix slop is being pushed to them.

honestly even if there had been another episode, i cannot in good conscience believe they could have fixed everything wrong with s5. which was why i had little hope going into ep8 the first time around.

The coming out scene was poorly handled and not a great reflection of queerness, kali was disrespected by the script, writers, and audience since s2, mike was severely under-utilized as his own character (romance aside), el was given nothing character-wise and was reduced to being a weapon (again), lucas was watered down to his romance plot, erica was under-used and sidelined to be stereotypical comedic relief, poor writing choices/quality all around (jancy breakup, continuity errors, very basic oversights), queerbaiting (last episode/minute gratification with byler would not have completely dispelled the queerbaiting clearly used as a marketing tactic for viewership), and most of all every statement made by the duffers in interviews post s5 have been an embarrassment with or without a 9th episode.

my sister who is a ga viewer, a byler denier, did not believe will was gay until s5 and still to this day does not believe that will was talking about himself in the s4 van scene, forgot dustin and hopper's names and kali's entire character was CONVINCED that mike and eleven had broken up until their scary kiss in the finale and cried bc she was so upset about the end (bc it was bad)!

that should tell you something about the quality of the writing.
