The one thing I never heard living in Appalachia/NC/VA/the foothills is to close your blinds at dark. Maybe from one person, but since a kid I’ve loved sleeping with the windows open, as nature plays you its own lullaby, or the rain and thunder would massage my brain. One of my favorite things about being back in VA having my windows open at night. I’ve been making recordings of the sounds of the woods surrounding my house I want to layer into the songs I’m recording. The smell, if only I could capture that too.
