Jordan Cash, founder of Cartems Donuterie recalls “It began with a dream when I was in South Korea in 2002. I went to sleep and had this vivid dream where I owned a donut shop named Cartems. When I woke up, I wrote everything down.”
There it sat for another 10 years and Jordan decided that while he got his MBA that this would be the project he pursued. In 2012, he met his business partner Rags and they began their new venture out of a small local kitchen. Today they have three locations and an incredibly delicious array of donuts.
When it comes to our cherry fritters we pick the cherries ourselves, we roll out the dough and make our fritters by hand which is a very long process. Same goes with our apple fritters - we peel the apples, we cut the apples, we make the fritter filling ourselves and we choose to do that because that is who we are and we will never stop doing those things. Even though it is very challenging, we have to take a very long hard look at how we are doing everything to make sure we can continue to do it. We would never stop doing that for anything.

It’s very much that anyone who is under the Cartems roof can suggest a flavour, even customers. If anyone comes in and suggests a flavour we will definitely consider it. So yeah anyone can come up with a flavour - doesn’t matter. In the past we have named donuts after the person that has come up with the flavour.

We’re not in the business of making great donuts, we’re in the business of making someone’s day better. You know that feeling when you’re walking down the street and a stranger is walking the other way? You make eye contact, you say hello and you smile at that person. Your next 5 steps, I guarantee you are better than the previous 5, always without a doubt. That hello is the same thing we are trying to do with the donuts.
