(like if somebody walks in front of him he can tell, he can tell if they're moving or not, he can mostly tell the difference between mobs since he somewhat can make out what shape they are and how tall they are but the details are all gone, and the colors are confusing and wrong). it happens gradually so he instinctively starts using other senses to tell what's going on (he has to, he needs to know if piglins are coming, he needs to find a way to escape no mater what, he can't miss couriway showing up if he ever even does). and when couriway does show up he thinks that fein's so clingy because he doesn't wanna get captured again (fair) but that's just the part of it, fein is using his own memory of past runs and couri's wings (which now look more like a sun than anything else, even the actual sun) as a guide to be able to finish this run together with couri. couri notices that something is different about fein only when the finally get home, and while fein is good at remembering stuff couri lived there alone long enough that he started placing some things in places convenient more for him than both of them without even realizing it. so fein has a hard time navigating thru their house at points, and of course he tries to hide it and hide the truth about his eyesight in general because he knows that couri will blame himself (he is right) (and he tells himself that this is the only reason but is it really?) so he keeps the visor on at all times (sure that will help you, bro) and maybe has not the brightest idea to wash his eyes repeatedly with regular water which causes them to hurt a lot (although it's not as bad as back there in the nether where it felt like they were about to catch on fire and after a while not even blinking or closing them completely would help) (but maybe it'll help, maybe it'll fix me, is what fein has been thinking completely illogically but desperately) and that's what couri finds him doing. and fein's eyes look bad and different, but couri thinks that it's due to fein doing. whatever the hell his idea was. and so couri leads fein to their living room, gives him the eye drops (or like a health potion or regen? idk can't really decide, ignore me lol) in hopes to make it better, and that actually fixes the inflammation caused by water and just irritating the eyes in general, but they stay just. wrong. and when couri looks at fein after a while at first he thinks that fein is avoiding looking at him, that this is why his gaze wonders around the entire place without much focus (even if fein squint his eyes as if he actually tried to focus - maybe they just still hurt a little and that's why). then when couri speaks fein's eyes bore into the shape of him but couri can tell that fein doesn't really look at him still. at that moment fein realizes that he can't really hide it from couri much longer (he doesn't even really know why he feels such a strong need to hide it. he always knew that couri will find out eventually, so why...?) and he just tells couri that he can't really see very well, he explains what he can see, and how it all works now, and as he is listening to couri's breathing and registering his movements, he can imagine, perfectly, as if his eyesight was still all intact, couri's face, and his facial expression showing more and more concern. he can imagine couri trying not to show it, failing, and failing to realize that he doesn't even need to try, since fein doesn't really see it anyway. he just knows. and couri blames himself, and fein can hear guilt present while couri speaks whenever they talk with each other for a long while. he hears it in his own voice as well.
