my husband last night: I swear to god every time I hear Finally Free playing I know you're just sitting there with a goofy smile on your face without even looking. You really love this scene.
me (already halfway to tears): It's just so beautiful! It's when Luke FINALLY realizes he's been in love with Julie this WHOLE TIME and he's just like 'oh SHIT I love this girl' and then immediately after that he's like 'OH SHIT I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THIS GIRL' and you can SEE it in his EYES when he LOOKS at her!! She's the Earth and he is the moon forever trapped in her orbit, unable to get any closer than he is right now because HE'S DEAD. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE S O U L M A T E S ! And I know everyone loves Edge of Great because of the pouty Luke and the guitar solo and the piano bench moment but that performance isn't THE SAME LEVEL because Julie is trying to dodge him and it's really just Luke trying to orbit closer and closer while she pushes him away and then she has to give in because what Earth can exist without it's Moon? BUT! In Finally Free they're just being normal Luke and Julie and it's so effortless and natural and YOU CAN LITERALLY WATCH HIM REALIZE HIS LOVE. HOW INCREDIBLE IS THAT? You get to SEE the moment he realizes it's all over for him now, he loves her and he can't fight it and it's like a freaking HOMECOMING! He looks so happy when it dawns on him and they're just SWEET BABIES IN LOVE AND I LOVE THEM.
