Despite the lancer’s questioning, the girl remains completely motionless on the bed, slumped unceremoniously against the headrest. Light filters in from a small window, and quite a bit of dust swirls in the hazy sunlight, stirred up from the vaccuum Kyoko had been using moments earlier.
Her body is still warm, though perhaps not as much as it ought to be. The amethyst on her ring has dulled over the last half hour, the murky color contrasting deeply with skin paler than snow.
She stands there, motionless, contemplating her next action and what it would be worth, should she decide to check the body in front of her. All signs point in the right direction, yet the lancer is far from certain whether she wants to follow the path. Take the risk. Check the pulse. For one who was active, bound to have good circulation, her fingers are surprisingly cold by comparison to the warm skin of Homura’s neck. A pause. Then a tongue click against the mouth’s roof, the head shaking side to side. Not sadness. Disappointment. Irritation. The girl was dead. “Pain in the ass...”
The fingers withdraw, held at her side as she weighs her options. The soul gem wasn’t broken. Wasn’t darkened, at least no more than what Kyoko had seen before. There was no reason for the smaller girl to be dead. Not for so long. Not without turning... “Hey.” The voice is gruff, this time more exasperated than angry. The death was an inconvenience, nothing more. If, she suspected, it were for a natural reason, then Homura would awaken in several moments. “Get yer ass up. Ya got some explainin’ ta do.”

Once laid down, Homura seemed to settle quietly in the bed, calm washing over her small frame in stark contrast with the moments before. At some point, her glasses had fallen from her face. Without them, she appeared to be a bit older, despite the twin braids laying across white sheets like discarded ropes. With time, however, came stillness. A deep, unsettling stillness.
"Calm" wasn’t exactly the word for it. The breeze outside was calm, the soft chirping of birds was calm, the rustling of leaves was calm. The soft, gentle movements of undisturbed life. Here, there were no movements. Her labored breathing hadn’t slowed; it ceased completely. Her frenzied, aching heart refused to beat, blood stagnant in her veins. A small amethyst on her ring dulls. There are no longer any answers to Kyoko’s predicament to be found in this room. Dead girls cannot explain anything to her.
If Kyoko had been watching, actually minding what was happening to the other girl, she might have reconsidered her reactions. Her tendency to immediately look away from anything that could give her unwarranted and unwanted compassion, however, formed a sort of natural mental barrier to watching instead of looking. For ten minutes after the first exchange, Kyoko sat on Homura's couch, glowering at the broken glass on the ground. Fifteen minutes after, she was scavenging through the purple magi's kitchen for something to snack on. Twenty minutes, and she found the vacuum... Having eaten enough from Homura's fridge to at least momentarily quell the flames of rage within her stomach, the redhead decided to channel it into a way to pass the time more effectively. That glass on the ground was a pain in the ass, and what if it was still around the next time she decided to break in to Homura's house? No. So she starts up the vacuum and, as expected of a machine that sucks in air at an accelerated rate and is currently devouring chunks of window, it's loud as fuck. In fact, this particular fuck is so loud that when she finishes cleaning, she wonders why her current host hasn't come to talk to her. Kyoko shuts off the vacuum and steps back into Homura's room - noticing no change in the girl's position from when she left the room, and even in the dead silence, the only breathing she's able to pick up on is her own...
"Aw, hell," Kyoko groans, running a hand through her hair and walking towards the other girl,"Don't tell me ya got some damn feign death type magic shit, too? You ain't gonna get by with playin' opossum on me, Akemi."

Sayaka grimaced as the other magi listed her only two options. Those couldn’t be the only two. The villains in every story always made it seem like a dead end, but the hero would always find a third way and prevail. That’s all she had to do, right?
"No. I have no regrets. I know what I’m doing is the right thing. That’s all I need to keep me going!" she responded. She was an ally of justice and wasn’t about to let this redhead keep knocking her around. There had to be a weak point somewhere…
Her thoughts were cut short when she noticed the chained segments approaching quickly. Sayaka hopped back, trying to put some distance between herself and the weapon, but the chains only followed. Lifting her sword ready to defend herself, she kept her gaze on her opponent, waiting for her next move. She had to be careful not use her healing magic, but not getting hit was the hard part.
"No regrets?" The red magi scoffed, then shook her head,"Like I haven't heard that before." Even a third time around, Sayaka was impossible to persuade. She was this iron and concrete wall that refused to be scaled or scratched, and didn't budge no matter how much Kyoko pushed.
It was a shame, really. But there was no helping her, was there? "You really are a moron, huh? It's damn tiresome, tryin'a get ya ta see my way. But, seein' as I can't let a dumbass like you live, I'm gonna have ta cut this short." Feigning a jab with the spearhead in an attempt to distract her opponent's attention and mask the clatter of the chains on the ground as they closed in on Sayaka's feet... "Maybe ya oughta learn the rules a' the trade before ya go off talkin' shit."

Words of a dead timeline echoed through memories she had tried to keep in the back of her mind so as not to think about them; for who would want to see the priest’s daughter and the mermaid falling toward their deaths, feeling that tight clutch in her chest as the diamonds running rampant in the ward dissipated and dissolved to announce the death of Sakura Kyouko, and presumably Oktavia von Seckendorff as well? Yet standing here before her was the girl tainted with holy fire, whose wish was almost as selfless as they come. Was this a blessing or a curse? To be reunited with a friend, yet their own memories of you nonexistent? She wondered if the girl was still the same as she remembered. It wouldn’t do to make herself close to someone only to find out that they were completely different than expected.
& yet another part of her — a quiet, melancholy part with blood in her eyes and broken halo in her hands — whispered Eat. Eat. Kill and eat.
She didn’t notice she was trembling. Nor did she notice the brilliant flash of light and faint sound of herself transforming until she was standing there with her hands gripping the fabric of her petticoat and her eyes targeted more towards the ground than the magical girl in front of her.

It's reflexive, the way Kyoko's own form shifts and her spear appears - a life of merely scraping by and fighting for what she has does that - makes it easier to go on the defensive, and act however she sees fit. Those same eyes squeezed thin as they watched the shorter girl in front of them... It wasn't an act, was it? She knew enough about Madoka, from past timelines. If anyone could be the embodiment of 'Good', it was her. With measured caution, the lancer summons her weapon, placing its butt-end firmly on the ground between herself and the archer. Those words.... Those are words only someone who's seen another timeline could speak - after all, she hadn't formally introduced herself to a Madoka, yet.. Her jaw tightens, back teeth grinding on eachother as she watched the pink magi.
To think, she'd have to make another decision. Madoka had proven herself...trustworthy, in the past. There was no doubt in Kyoko's mind that Madoka was the type of person one could trust with their life. And yet... Maybe she was too caught up trying to save face, maybe it was intuition... Whatever it was, she wasn't sold. Visibly taking in a breath to appear as though she's relaxing herself, Kyoko levels her gaze to Madoka's. "If ya back off an' let me take this, we won't have ta fight."
The red magi casually downs a burger.
"S'gettin' time ta stock up for winter..." Maybe if she hibernates, all this background noise will stop.
