American Classic-Placed Lani Retired

Graded stakes winner and classic-placed Lani has been retired. He will stand at Arrow Stud in Hokkaido, Japan for a fee of ¥500,000 (US$4,500). 

The now four-year-old won the Gr.II UAE Derby as a sophomore, becoming he first Japan-based horse to do so, defeating filly Polar River. Lani then competed in all three American Triple Crown races, running 9th in the Derby, 5th in the Preakness, and then third in the Belmont behind Creator and Destin. After returning to Japan, Lani ran third in the Brazil Cup. As a juvenile, Lani won the Hyacinth Stakes.  

Lani is a half-brother to Gr.III winner Awardee and Amour Briller. His dam, Heavely Romance, is a Japanese Gr.I winner. He will stand alongside Arrow stallions Transcend, Sinister Minister, South Vigorous, Battle Plan, Earnestly, and World Ace. He is only the second son of Tapit to stand in Japan, behind Creator.

The son of Tapit (out of Heavenly Romance, by Sunday Silence) retires with a record of 17: 3-1-2 with earnings of $1,403,000.
