Northwest Blacksmith Association Day at Pratt Sunday, October 23, 10am – 4pm FREE and open to the public

This event showcases the iron work of members of the Northwest Blacksmith Association (NWBA). Artists Dean Mook of Port Townsend, WA and Pratt instructor Patrick Maher of Seattle offer blacksmithing demonstrations. Hands-on activities for anyone wishing to try the forge and anvil will be guided by current Pratt instructors and NWBA members.

Join us for Erik Geshcke: Crocodile Tears, a solo exhibition featuring sculptural work in mixed media by Portland-based artist Erik Geschke.  Geschke explores themes surrounding the issues of mortality, dystopia, and modernism while utilizing humor, social commentary, and familiar iconography to address complex subjects.  Drawing on familiar sources including art history, political propaganda, and popular culture, Geschke creates personal and social narratives that reveal hidden meanings upon close inspection.  The exhbition will be on display at the Pratt Gallery at Tashiro Kaplan Studios from October 6-29, 2011.  The artist will present a free public lecture on October 7, 2011 at Pratt Fine Arts Center, 1902 S. Main Street, Seattle, WA  98144.
