I'm in a Pokemon Rp server and I'm having fun rping my oc Hana. She recently got into a battle with another trainer her age named Dan, it ended in a tie even though he totally child have stomped me with his Onix. After that we both caught new pokemon and now we're travelling together.

Oc Dump for Marigold. She's a Fairy Godmother in training, failing at university. So out of desperation she curses a demon lord to be human for essentially extra credit. Feeling guilty she resolves to help him break her curse by finding his true love. He rightfully hates her, but he's also smart enough to know she's his best shot at breaking his curse.

Marigold looks really cheerful but she's actually extremely self loathing and anxious due to her many many failures. I mean this girl has failed like 20 classes. She just doesn't like to think about it because she knows she's this close to a breakdown. Honestly pribabaly has undiagnosed ADHD, whenever she has to study the words never sticks, its like they're paper boats floating in the ocean, in danger of being washed away by the next wave of information.

This shame has also caused her to pull away from her little sister and friends. She doesn't want to face them because she doesn't want them to see how far she's fallen when she used to be a prodigy as a child. And a part of her that she hates is jealous of how much more successful they are than her, and again she hates that feeling because she knows it's wrong so she avoids them. Marigold doesn't want them to fail too, she just wants to suceed with then. This has caused her sister and friends to begin resenting her because from their point of view she abandoned them.

I think a big part of the reason Pokopia is hitting so hard for so many people is that we have had an absolute glut of post apocalyptic media that take the "humans are the monsters/disease/problem" angle. Even the most well meaning solar-punk I can think of often have this undercurrent of 'humanity's nature is inherently short sighted and exploitive and they must constantly be kept in check to protect the environment' which slides very quickly into 'the world would be better off without humans in it to complicate and threaten things'.

But Pokopia fully does not do that. The world is lonely without humans and lesser for humanity's absence. So much of the game is about how Pokemon miss humans and are struggling to make sense of a world without us, how the ecosystem is just as hurt by our absence as any other species, and how the things we left behind, even in ruins and burned shells, are often beautiful and strange and helpful to the Pokemon who find them.

Pokemon have always been this allegory for the natural world- back to the original idea of the games inspired by children who caught bugs and kept ant farms- and thus the relationship between Pokemon and humans becomes this allegory for the relationship between nature and humans. And Pokopia looks you dead in the eye and says "the world would be poorer without humans, and if we all vanished tomorrow the echoes of who we are and the things we did would still ring out for eons uncountable. We would be missed and mourned and searched for and the wound of our absence would be deeply felt on this earth for the rest of its turning. The actions of a few greedy short sighted humans will never change that."

And that. That hits.
