Caaaaaaan we interest anyone inâa STARTER CALL?
Hereâs an ABOUT for anyone ready to RISE UP !!
and, i mean, ps: iâve debated making this a multi-muse and adding Sam, Jonasâ little sister (and the brains of this operation, letâs be real) but if anyone knows of an active Sam Nightingale or is considering taking on a muse... letâs chat...Â
me: jonas who? @patiencetaught: so what about a music man AU? me: OH! THAAAAT JONAS!!! *logs right in*
gravemotherÂ
( has he become nervous because of her? is she being too much? this wonât cross her mind for a split second. noânot with all that mystery gin making her insides fuzzy! )
the corner of her ruby-red lips twitches into a teeny smile when she catches the man cut himself off mid-sentence. his comment about her eyes renders her bashful. she lowers her lashes. coy. âŠheâs a man of god! surely she should soften her tone. when itâs her cue to introduce herself, sheâs quick to set her sofia on the beer-stained counter. amotherly gesture. i mean, who doesnât bring their baby to the bar? she couldnât leave the poor thing home all alone! as if she doesnât have a school of ugly, crack-faced babies at home.  that would make her a bad mother. sheâs a good mother! sheâs good!
a creak from the ripped, artificial leather bar stool sounds beneath her as she fixes herself. straightens her back all proper and gives her head a little toss to flick long, dark tresses over her shoulder. she juts her hand out for a shake. the glass in her other hand is idle, tilting, just a millimeter away from pouring its contents right out onto her white nightgown. the doll on the counter tips over. all dead-like and what not. makes you wonder just how much she really cares about the thing.
âcatalina merinoââ fast, almost rehearsed. her eyes are lit up like the sun, their brilliance burning holes into his with some sort of misplaced hope. âthe lord doesnât mind if you drink, reverend jonas?â
She fluttered, he liked it, liked watching her more than anything else around. Likeâa butterfly, as they do, behind some morning grazing of the sunrise after skimming itâs way across flowers, heavy, weighed down with dew, melancholy, over having to say goodbye to the eveningâs twilight...
Jesus, what was in this fuckinâ booze? He took a peek with only one eyeball and the other shut tight: focus.
Jonas wondered, while staring at his glass, as if the liquid shlopping inside would have any real reason to explain itself. It didnât. He wouldnât bother the bartender with another stare. Hardly felt worth bothering him for a refill.
YET, First, when the doll fell, though it be idly-- he felt obliged to assist, delicately reached over to use only two very careful fingertips, setting it back up right. Threatened to tumble, of course it would, but he was committed at this point... Delicately led it to righthood. Good. There it goes.
He pulled back, steadying both hands in a psuedo-NINJA-esque way: ready to predict a tumble before it occurred... it didnât.. and he suddenly felt self-conscious for toying with someone elseâs-- toy??-- BABY!
ââM sorry, I saw her stumble,â oh God now he was in on it too. When in Rome!? But at least he had a reason to regard her, and-- Mm;  Sheâs lovely. In the way the eye of a storm is: heâd swear her hair was still caught in the whirlwind of this tumbleweed heâd come in on, but there was a certain peace about her... Bliss? Script, like him? âItâsâa pleasure to meet you, Catalina...â ignorance? Contentment with said lot? Beautiful. Enviable.
âJesus had wine, Sister, those of us still here amongst sin need somethinâ a little strongerââ and he winked, fully accepting of any rancor OR! CORRECTNESS! that could be associated with such idealisms. âYou mentioned Johnny by a church,â competition? was this place even worth casing? âWould you call this town HOLY?â A loaded question, maybe, made ever more sense if it was... âThe Lordâs been speaking while Iâm so near, can hear him whisperinâ likeâa Lark in a meadow; but what could this place need...?â
Jonas Nightingale + Onion Headlines
@patiencetaught and I so very briefly discussing something...
âExcuse me?â
He had to of misheard her. No way she brought cookies; just to bring cookies. In fact, he looked more bewildered than if sheâd hurled accusations his way-- which, for some reason, he felt much more entitled to. Hesitantly, as if the snacks would leap out and bite at him if he werenât careful, Jonas peeked just under the cloth to look at said supposed cookies.......
and oh, Good Lord, they looked delicious. âAre those chocolate chips...?â he sounded like a child all over again; NO!
Another twisted chin, first in suspicion and then risen high in subtle uncertainty. âI, I mighty appreciate these,â was his sister in on this? She wouldnât poison him this close to a show, right? SURELY NOT! But the only real other excuse is that... she just; made him cookies?
Nah. That didnât make sense.
âHow can I repay such kindness?â Asking in sincerity as much as politeness, still physically hesitating  taking the offering from her-- heâs pocketed hundreds from women who could hardly comprehend where they were before: but accepting cookies from someone as sweet as her evoked suspicion. âWhat brings you here, Sister...?â REALLY, NOW...
âUm⊠that wasnât meâŠâ
One brow; followed by a second, both STEADYâ âOh surely it wasnât,â no less accusation in his tone as he cocked his head to the side, eyes in a squintâŠÂ âSorry for my mind, MaâAm, Iâm afraid my manners may have been misplaced with my patience, oneâa my angels just thought they saw you earlier, snoopinâ, they must be mistakinââŠâ spoken in a whirlwind as he seamlessly shifted to reach for an accessory; BIBLICAL TEXT; âIt gets so crazy right before a revivalâŠâ
And this felt like an ambush. Could be innocent. She didnât strike him as the religious type, though; with all her questions, but it was worth a sort of attentionâ âHow may I help you? Iâm not looking for publicity, you know,â certainly not, God Please No! âJust those in need of some FaithâŠâ and she seemed to have plenty, in herself and her THOUGHTS, so whyâd she need to ask anything of him when she likely already had a good case for a smear?
HEADCANON
Jonas is actually afraid / very very wary of fortune tellers & psychics.
He can read people, but only what they give away-- even if itâs so subtle they donât realize itâs being given. Thanks to this âtalentâ, heâs quite conscious about what heâs willing to give away; & he certainly makes efforts to keep himself as buttoned-up and under wraps as he can.Â
Sure, heâll chalk a couple lines or suggestions up to common tells. The ghost whisperers are his favorite; gimme an H!? gimme a dead parent!? keep goin, punkin, or turn to another corner of the room and try your luck again... And of course he can tell plenty about himself that he uses to âtellâ of others... He dresses well, cares for his appearance, is middle-aged and well spoken: there are plenty of reasonable assumptions a person like him could come to and conclusions they could reach that makes sense.
BUT: if anyone knew / figured out something heâs very confident isnât obvious to even a trained eye... it throws him off. And when Jonas is off, heâs very off and that damned instinct of fight or flee kicks in before he knows which to pick... and heâd prefer not to deal with anyone who may possibly have the powers he uses so much effort and slight of hand to fake.

Eveâs eyes narrow in on him as she puts the earbuds into her pocket. She is going to be watching him very carefully to make sure he doesnât try to use his magic on her again. âI mightâŠâ Her voice trails off as she skims over the flyer. At first, she thinks its advertising a magic show but upon closer examination she starts to notice its religious components. Eve doesnât having anything against religion ( after all, she identities as Jewish herself ) but people like him seem to just use it as a way to make a quick buck. âAre you one of those televangelists that sell people miracle water or other nonsense like that?â
âOh sister, Iâm the farthest thing from a televangelist you may ever find--â those guys were suckers & the only water heâd consider miraculous was vodka. Why put yourself up on a boob tube for everyone to see your fraud at once- PISHAW! Only people those dummy-deacons could swindle were the elderly or faint of heart... and really, youâd only get a good chance at it for awhile. Jonas was in it for the long-haul: new city, miles apart, week or so in between... Sure, people talk, but heâs usually quicker than a rumor mill. Televangelist. Heâs almost offended. Showed how offended he almost was with a fallen jaw and both hands placed over his heart. âI ainât tryinâ to sell a thing; thereâs far easier ways to make money- but I must say, this city may spark somethinâ special tonight, if they believe...â indeed; it was their second night in this town; PYROTECHNICS!!
âWhatâve ya got to lose, anyway? I already found your headphones-- might as well see what else is up my sleeve...â
brooklynislandgirl
Jonasâ presence went largely unnoticed for several steps, almost an entire block. And when he did succeed in garnering a glance, it was all wide eyes and apple cheeks that didnât seem to belong to a place like the city, not with their innocence or their wholesomeness. But the smile she offers him is made out of the sun itself and she doesnât seem to mind letting him talk to his heartâs content.
Eventually she overcomes temerity or at least the running brook that is his voice and nods. âNew from where?â She kept glancing ahead of him, once or twice correcting Jonasâ trajectory, to spare him the indignity of a light-post or a fellow pedestrian. âAnâ seems ya luck is perfect. As a matter fact I was jusâ goinâ tâ grab a cup. Moreân happy tâ have the company if ya wanna join me.â
And thereâs sweetness as she wiggles a half close fist at him with extended thumb and pinkie, the age-old surferâs âhang tenâ. Â âAs a welcome tâ the neighbourhood, yourâsâll be on me, yeah?â
He was used to people trying to cross the street by now... Hell, if she were anything like his sister (thank God she WAS NOT!), sheâd have let him knock his noggin on a street sign or aimed him to bite the dust off a curb-- but not this someone. Oh no; she made this lilâ trust-stroll possible, straightened out his spine with that dashâa ADORABLEÂ he certainly hadnât been expecting... Jonas almost didnât even know how to proceed, hadnât expected it to even get this far without her skirting him...
Almost.
âNew from everywhere,â hard to pick which âwhereâ would be the best to present at the moment. A quick glance towards his watch, as if he really had some agenda to keep to. âThat actually sounds mighty fine--â mimicked the little hand sign right back at her, trying to somehow also mirror that smile, but he knew he couldnât portray the affability already obvious in her. âYou so kind to every stranger or did I just catch ya on a sunny day, Miss...........?â
Upon prompting for her name, Jonas actually fell into step right alongside her, even leaned ever-so-slightly nearer to show he was really listening. âHadnât âxpected to run right into a lovely lilâ Saint, but some things just do happen for a reason, ya know...â

When he starts to shift around Eve becomes suspicious. However, the confusion on her face dissolves the moment she sees the earbuds seemingly appear from her ear. Her mouth drops open before she points at him, visibly confused. âI didnât put them there!â Proclaims the starlet as she covers her ears. She doesnât want him putting anything else in there. âHow did you do that?â Asks the starlet with a small pout on her lips.
... Okay, that was worth giving up the headphones.
âMagic, Princess.â And he wriggled those sticky magical fingers while slipping right back into her line of sight. âWouldnât be any fun ifân I told ya how now would it? Best mystics donât give away their secrets, ya see...â a magician was someone who tugged rabbits out of top hats, and heâd rather not be lumped in with those in penguin suits...
his suits were much nicer than theirs, anyway.
âIf you think that was good, you should come see me make up a real miracle,â always a chance, and look at that, HE HAD A FLIER FOR HIS REVIVAL IN HIS BACK POCKET! How convenient. âYou look familiar,â he hoped it was from somewhere other than a previous revival... âdoes Heaven know they lostâan angel or do you got time taâ spare this evening?â

Oh god, he was one of those. She moved across the country to put as much distance as possible between herself and guys like this. Damned right sheâs got places to be and people to see, and theyâre not right here and him, respectively. Just keep walking, just keep walking, donât make eye contactâ
Crap! Now is not the time to snag her designer heel on a bump in the sidewalk and spill her purse. And sheâs forced to stop and stoop and collect all her belongings, and check her phone for any new cracks. Meanwhile sheâs a sitting duck for this joker.
Fuming, sheâs furiously gathering pens, lip gloss, coins, tampons, receipts, a pack of cigarettes, her lighter, and assorted other odds and ends back into her bag, while heâs making himselfimpossible to ignore. Did he really justâ Lids flutter shut; lungs fill with air, and she lets out a disgruntled huff through her nose. She composes herself and deliberately raises her chin to fix him with a toothy, man-eating grin.
âOh? Is that your bet? Then let me save you the money.â Re-combobulated, she rises to her feet, hefts her purse to her shoulder, and tugs her jacket straight. âIâve heard that offer one too many times to fall for it, and from guys better-looking than you. Thanks, but no thanks. Oh, and by the wayââ sheâs starting to step away, turns to deliver a parting shot over her shoulder. ââI thought gambling was a sin.â
WOW! Red flags left and right, a STOP! sign right in his face via huff, and he wouldnât insult her in the least by suggesting she wasnât clear with her disinterest... Bettinâ may be a sin, though, âDonât you worry, Iâm a prophet, not perfect--â but Jonas was rather sure he could reason it with his partner in crime the big man in the sky... didnât seem like much a gamble at all, anyways.Â
When she dropped to collect her effects, heâd hobbled right on down to join her, didnât get much of anything other than a good look at those nice shoes... âLemme help-â not much effort was put in, other than slipping a folded up flier into that purse while she went about gathering things-- he was already rather certain sheâd rather stay on the floor than accept his helping hand. Writing accessories, Receipts, DESIGNER shoes: organized, maybe. Or hoping to be, and trottinâ about in heels like those with more sass than grace... chip on her shoulder?Â
Or could she just smell him from a mile away?Â
Oh, but now she was beinâ snarky. Yes. That preacher-man smirk slipped sly to a cheshire grin-- this was fine. âKeep the flattery, Sister-- Iâm more concerned over you barinâ your soul than anything else,â her step away was followed with a quick two of his own, towards her. âAnd as charmed as I am that you think Iâd be spillinâ lines, I assure you, those Casanovas ainât got a thing on what Iâve got to offer. Everyone could use a miracle these days, and maybe mine is just findinâ you-- but lifeâs too short,â and even shorter if sheâs smokinâ those cigarettes heâd seen, âand you could either keep on steppinâ or come on in and see somethinâ real and really life changing âfore it slips away... whatâve you got to lose, after all?â
One brow up, and a flier was dangled between two fingertips for her viewing pleasure: âOr you just gonna rush on through just like you tried to rush on by?âÂ
Marva:Â âProud of it! I donât miss much...â Jonas: âItâs what I do. Some folks read French or Music: I read people.â Marva: âLet me guess-- travelling salesman?â Jonas: âYou might say that...â Marva: âSo? Go on! Letâs see a master at work!â Jonas: âWell, the guy that just left, he got some bad news-- probably foreclosure.â How did you know that? âHe was fine until he opened that last piece of mail & then he got up in a hurry. And did you see that key he was using? To open the envelope? That key ring with a cat on it was probably a gift from his little girl-- thatâs whatâs eating him the most.â Marva: âKatherine Grace. He calls her Kitty. You know itâs not nice to pry in peopleâs lives... how about the brothers?â Jonas: âThe one with the glasses has a tragic crush on a married brunette, probably has since grade school... and the other oneâs in the closet...â Marva: âNo, NO WAY! Sorry!â âOther Oneâ: âBye folks, here ya go... Hey... nice shoes, Marva!â Jonas: âI hate to say I told you so.â Marva: âNo you donât. Jonas: âAnd YOU. You kicked the habit for, Iâm guessing, the fourth time just a few weeks ago.â Marva:Â âFifth. Howâd you know?â Jonas:Â âNicotine patch, hanging out your right sleeve.â Marva:Â âSo you think youâre REALLY good.â Jonas:Â âNah, Iâm just gettinâ started.â Marva:Â âWhat? On me? Forget it!â Jonas:Â âWhat... scared Iâll get you wrong, or right?â Marva:Â âIâm not scared of anything.â
Jonas: âI knew youâd say that...â
