Zeno's Closet! The Rules and Regulations of Handling a Wesker's Wardrobe

Hey guys, this is Spooky with YET ANOTHER sideblog (Jesus Christ make me stop...)

This time for everyone's favorite new epic gay disaster, Zeno from Resident Evil: Requiem. First and foremost, I am NOT a Resident Evil fan (I prefer the Metro 2033 series and the Bioshock trilogy) so a lot of the complexities of the series go right over my head. Thankfully, Zeno's a near-complete blank slate minus the 5 minutes we see him so there's so much to explore regarding him. Think of this version of him as an OC take on Zeno as he's dealing with the arrogance innate with the Wesker's while also trying to understand who he is in the world.

I tend to go more post or current "canon" but in this case it's before the events of the game, during or somehow regenerating and surviving. Zeno being dropped to the absolute rock bottom imaginable in order to force him to realize that he can't be his gene donor...but that's okay. He doesn't have to compete with a dead man when he himself is unique.

As with the other blogs, there will be rules and headcannons and a playlist to kind of get an idea of how things go with this blog. And remember...I'm a 34 year old female from California. So I might not be awake when you guys are on. And I do NOT write with anyone below 18 (in general I avoid even 18-19 year olds.) My writing is very mature and not suited for young eyes and Zeno's daddy issues are also "daddy" issues.

Zeno knew more than anyone how problematic it was being studied labeled as Albert Wesker’s spawn.

“ At least you just look like him in passing. I was made to replace him. I had to be everything he was but better. If I didn’t….”

He didn’t have to answer. Being the last close alive of his series was enough to show how evil the Connections were if literal babies couldn’t measure up to a fallen god.

Zeno kept his distance from Jake. As much as the clone desperately wanted a family, anyone that could accept him….the gruesome scar around his neck from Gideon laughing at him and decapitating him had left him weary and cautious.

Zeno expected people to hate him on sight for things he never wanted. But….Piers had accepted him without question….

“…..I wonder if I should consider you my big brother.”

Jake looked over the strange man and really didn't have ANY idea who he was. He knew who Albert Wesker was and he found out as of recently that he was his son but he never met him nor did he know what he looked like. He was slightly confused at this stranger's comment. "Do I know you?" He asked.

Jake had heard that name before and he knew it all too well. At least as of recently he did. But this man wasn't him. He knew his old man was dead and this man was a clone? He asked himself as he thought over a few things. If he was a clone then they had to be somewhat different right? He wasn't going to judge him based on his looks despite the fact he NEVER met Albert Wesker.

"Yeah? I know that name all too well. Besides it's not like I ever met him. He wasn't really there growing up. But if you're a clone and he's dead.." Jake wasn't sure what to think at this point. He swallowed his pride and decided to give him a chance. Just once. "Nevermind, just forget I said anything. I'm Jake." He still had mixed feelings but he would try.

Zeno blinked. He wasn’t expecting this but he was going to take it.

“ It’s nice to meet you.”

And he was being genuine for once. Just in how nervous and more humbled Zeno was being was definitely NOT like Albert Wesker. Albert was a domineering force while Zeno was left to submit.

“ I think you know Piers Nivens, right? He and I are…quite close.”

Close as in snuggling, kissing and holding hands when nobody was looking….

The resemblance really was uncanny. The same intense gaze, the same features. Just packaged a little differently with different wrapping.

Zeno didn’t know if this was a blessing in disguise or not that Jake didn’t recognize who he was made from. But….if he wanted any shot at bridging a gap to who might be the only genetic family he still had….

He had to go for it.

“ No, you don’t know me. And I don’t expect you to. I’m….my name is Zeno. And this is going to sound batshit nuts but…”

He hesitated but it was now or never.

“…..I’m the clone of Albert Wesker.”

And now he braced himself. He knew the likelihood of this not ended in a screaming match was low.

"What other horrible invasions of privacy have you got in there?" - Grace !

“ Wh…what?”

It was hard to get Zeno to look this confused but he hadn’t exactly been himself lately. The revived clone was a shattered mess of the stoic badass he made himself out to be before.

And now, he looked spooked as he held his coat in his arms. He wasn’t wearing it but he hugged it like a child holding onto a beloved teddy bear for dear life.

“ It’s just my coat. Don’t….don’t take it away from me. Please.”

Zeno’s voice sounded humiliating having to BEG like a child not to lose one tattered and ruined jacket. But Zeno was trying to hold onto whatever scrap he had of a life he lost to his own stupidity.

Piers peeked in to leave Zenos some black and red roses. He had a secret area where he grew flowers that he wanted to keep hidden for this exact purpose.

Zeno wasn’t expecting this. An absolutely gorgeous bouquet of freshly picked roses. Zeno sniffed them and they smelled heavenly. He also picked up an all-too familiar musk that was warm and soft, like a fall candle.

A smile gracing his pale face.

“ Piers you wonderful man…”

He was going to put these flowers in a vase with cool water and then go find his not-so secret admirer.

There'd be two survivors of the Wesker program if Alex had survived her own ordeals — was she attempting to follow in his footsteps? To find freedom and purpose and newfound abilities through death? Some part of him felt that she was still out there, somewhere, though he knew not where to look, or even if he should. He was different now, far different than he was the last time they met. She might not even recognize him anymore, nor he her, should she still live.

"You did before." Albert states matter-of-factly. "Though, I'd like to think we've worked past it." He cannot ignore the fact that he had initially hated Zeno too and for nothing more than being the spitting image of himself. But they needn't focus on these things now that things were much happier between them. Albert tilts his head as Zeno speaks, immediately intrigued. He leans over to see the photos as they are presented to him and... no, could it be?

Like before, Albert looks up to Zeno's face for confirmation and, once again, Zeno's sparkling eyes tell him everything he needs to know.

"Zeno, I... Congratulations. I don't know what to say..! Have you picked out names yet?"

Zeno was glad things had become better between them. By thinking of each other as different but similar, it helped navigate the complexity of being Wesker’s clone.

They had the same DNA, but not the same life. As a result, they were their own distinct people.

“ I believe we have. We’re our own people despite what I am. I can never be you and that’s okay. We are similar but different.”

Zeno was very much like Albert in that his emotions were outwardly more subtle, but his joy was radiating. He was a father now, and to two healthy and perfect twins.

Zeno was just so happy and he wanted to share his happiness with someone who meant a lot to him.

“ Not yet but….we’re leaning towards Alberta and Alexander.

I was wondering if you’d like to meet them once they’re a little stronger. They’re still small so we want to keep an eye on them until they’re big enough to handle an excursion.”

"You!" Piers shouted. He had just gotten out of a fight with a B.O.W. that he had managed to take on by himself and he was in his infected form. "Wait! Don't go!" He shouted.

Zeno felt sick, his body weak. He wasn’t supposed to feel this way…he wasn’t supposed to BE this way! Zeno was stumbling, trying to get away….trying to save himself.

His scars were reduced to burns and the RCS had been purged from his body. And he hated it. He was just a pathetic human now!

Zeno heard someone yelling at him from behind and he watched in horror as this mutant monster called out toward him. Zeno was a bioweapon…he had seen bioweapons. He didn’t recognize this one but he was useless to fight off a new mutation!

So on weak legs he tried running, only for his knees to buckle under him. He collapsed hard onto the ground, feeling his burns get scraped and the pain associated flashing near him.

He had to get away! He had to find a reversal for Elpis! He had to get his powers back, even if it meant his life was shortened.

Piers just pulled his hand back and looked at him for a moment. Trust. He didn't think about that. He then thought for a moment. "Kill you? Why? I don't think I have it in me to kill you. I may be a monster but I'm not like that. Listen, I know that you see a government symbol on my uniform but I'm no longer part of all that. I'm..I'm now one of them. I just.." He sighed. "By them I mean I'm one of the infected. I just wanted to help you but I promise I'm not going to harm you."

He slowly lifted up the bandages over his right eye showing that his eye was scarred. It was the only part of his body that stayed the way it was after the inhibitor was administered. He then put the bandages back down over his eye. "Listen you can decide whether to trust me or not later. But let's get you out of here for now."

He thought he was weak and if there was an attack he felt like he wouldn't be able to hold his own in a battle. Atleast not like this.

“…..Because of my face. I….know you recognize my face even if we’ve never met…”

Everyone recognized his face. It was a curse he was forced to have. To look like the man who died trying to kill humanity.

It was why Zeno had hunted Elpis so doggedly….he was desperate to be more than his father’s shadow.

Seeing Piers’ scarred eye didn’t make Zeno look in disgust. Instead, he just looked….sad.

“….You were infected.”

But he envied Piers….because the former soldier could still be worth something.

Zeno wasn’t getting out of this so he relented. His voice low….like he was giving up.

“ Fine…”

” It doesn’t work like that.”

“…..The people that created me made sure I couldn’t rebel. It doesn’t matter what I want, what matters is what they want. Someone who wasn’t part of the group doesn’t trigger the directive.”

Despite looking stoic, Zeno was so lost and confused. The world was an alien place for him.

“ I lost my progenitor virus to an antiviral serum. I was created with mold stabilizing the progenitor. Without the progenitor virus…..I’m nothing.”

His back became rod straight.

“ I refuse to just be a worthless human. A nothing. I don’t know what mold will do now without the virus suppressing it but I refuse to just be a liability.”

A worthless human. Ethan rolls his eyes before he can really stop himself at that; despite literally everything, he still considers himself human. Hell, he's met Chris and if there's anyone who can prove what the fuck humans can do, it's Chris fucking Redfield.

"You refuse to be nothing, but you refuse to do jack-shit anything." He leans closer, invading Zeno's space to hiss, "Think you can grow a pair without your virus? Because it looks like you've got two choices.

"You can stay here and wallow, or you can do literally anything to make shit better for yourself." He shakes his head, leaning back again. "Or, fuck it, I'll take down the Connections on my own and you just find a corner to sit in out of my way." It's not feasible, but Ethan doesn't care. But if he can get things done without having to go up against someone his body feels a weird connection with, that's the route he's gonna try to take.

Like a trigger, Zeno’s eyes seemed to glow as he flashed his teeth. His teeth seemingly elongating, sharpening as he took on a wolf-like appearance for a second.

The mold reacting to his body perceiving a threat and initiating a warning.

“ Back off.”

Ethan wanting to take on Connections alone?

“ You’re fucking insane if you think you can beat them by yourself. They have more bioweapons on hand than Umbrella and Tricell ever did. They’ll kill you!”

Why the fuck did he even care? Maybe….because whatever was left in him was as drawn to Ethan as Ethan’s mold was to him.

“ Fuck it, I’m going with you.”

Piers just put out his hand to help the other up. He wasn't just going to leave him there and he certainly wasn't going to kill him. After all he wasn't in the B.S.A.A. anymore. As of right now he was declared dead. He actually had gotten his inhibitors when he was rescued by Umbrella and of course experimented on. "No, that life is behind me." He said.

He didn't feel like explaining himself as to why he still had his uniform on. He mainly didn't't want to lose the memory of who he used to be and who he was. So he continued to wear it but he knew that now it was completely destroyed and he had no way of getting a replacement.

Luckily the one he wore currently was a replacement but it was a temporary one that Umbrella Agents managed to provide for him before letting him temporarily leave. Temporarily. Piers ran away which led is here.

He continued to hold his hand out. "Come on, I'm not going to hurt you. I promise."

Words were cheap. Zeno had come from a world where everyone was two-faced and only cared for themselves. Certainly for him he never had someone just there, caring about him. The closest was Grace but Grace's innocence was aimed for Emily and Kennedy....Zeno didn't belong to that group.

How could he trust someone that mutated into something that looked like a tyrant sub-type?

“ Give me a reason to trust you.”

Zeno just lay there, haggard, broken. His now-blue eyes just so lost as he tried to hide the horrific scar around his neck from Gideon killed him.

“…..How can I trust you when everyone wants to kill me again?”

I just read a fanfic where Jill has Zeno in her house under house arrest and just fantasizes about taking out her hatred of Wesker out on him and somehow that got me wanting to plot with a Jill. XD

Like Zeno being blamed for all the shit Wesker did would piss him off A LOT.

Piers saw the man and saw how weak he was and quickly pulled an inhibitor off of his side with his non mutated arm and then brought it up and injected it into the side of his neck. Once the inhibitor was administered he quickly changed back into his human form. Although some of his clothes were tattered from the mutation sequence but he would take care of that later obviously.

He then took a few steps towards the fallen man and then stepped in front of him. "Hey, you alright?" He asked. He quickly noticed that this man looked like Jake or even more so Wesker. Piers became hesitant but he wanted answers. He knew that Wesker was dead but Umbrella still existed. Therefore he was curious. Although he saw how weak he was. "Let's get you out of here."

Zeno flinched. Hard. He was trapped, but he couldn’t keep running with his body so weak. Zeno knew this was the end for him….and possibly for good this time.

He woke up after getting his head reattached to hear the Connection scientists talk about reprogramming him to remove his stubborn individuality. He escaped them but nothing escaped the Connections and lived.

The clone could see the tattered remnants of a government symbol on Piers’ ruined clothes and looked at the other with a looked that said plainly that Zeno was accepting his fate.

What else was left for him? He was going to die in a cage….just like how he had been born in one years ago…

“ If you’re going to kill me, just get it over with. I’d rather have it done now and not when I’m in a prison.”
