you call it ‘a heinous violation of legal and ethical rules,’ i call it ‘creative problem-solving’

He grinned. “Well that’s nice. Someone nice choosing to be a night owl like me. Another step closer to my dream of this becoming a trend and everyone else doing the same… having to worry for myself when I just want to take a walk while it’s cooler and well, easier to admire the streets isn’t so nice, y’know? I can’t imagine it’d be good for anyone else, either.”
He paused for a moment. Wind rustled in the branches of the trees planted along the sidewalk. “If you don’t come out too often… I’m guessing that you have a job that involves a lot of work with a desktop?”
Jeong yoon briefly tugged his mask back into place where the eyeholes had started to slip lightly off kilter. “What an agenda.~ Though, if everyone started staying up at night, it’d probably be too crowded.” In the pause, he was looking down at his shoes to ensure everything was still properly covered. “Hm? Oh, yeah. I do video editing. It’s nice, and I’ve got somewhat flexible hours, but it does kinda keep me chained to one place. What about you? You said you write?”
nobigdealnowadays:
She chuckled a little. “Wouldn’t you? I mean, I suppose it doesn’t apply for all office workers… but I didn’t happen to get overtime today and that’s a rare occasion. It’s part of the reason why the night view of the business district is so nice, I suspect. All those offices, lit through the night.”
“Makes sense. I’d probably kill someone if I had to be stuck in an office for so long like that, I dunno how you guys do it.” He wasn’t joking. At all. In fact, now the demon was prying at this human’s mind a little bit, as if to see if he could find some source of ill intent in her head to potentially magnify. Usually humans couldn’t tell when he was doing that, but sometimes it gave them the shivers, and particularly sensitive or stubborn ones could tell that that was their cue to get the hell away. He hoped she wasn’t a sensitive or stubborn one. “This area is pretty nice to wander around in at night, yeah. Very twinkly.~”
iwillchasemylight:
He chuckled a little at that. “Same right back to you. It really is a nice coincidence. I mean, well…” He ran a hand through his hair, and grinned at him. “There aren’t a whole lot of ways to make me feel happier than to know that someone likes listening to my singing. I mean, I do know it – won’t have been able to make a living out of it otherwise. It’s different to meet someone like this because of it, though.”
“I can sorta get that,” Jeong yoon replied, nodding happily. “It’s good to know we’re on the same page here and that I’m not being too terribly weird.” Aaaaand now he was back to feeling awkward. Here was the thing about encounters like this-- how did one strike up a real conversation from here?
My character has stumbled upon a magical mirror. However, instead of showing their reflection, it shows what they'd look like in an alternate universe! Send me a verse and I'll describe what they see themselves as in said verse, and their reaction to seeing it.

Oh… this person actually intended to talk to her. That was unexpected. Not unpleasant, but unexpected. She seldom found people that would turn a random greeting into a conversation – or perhaps that was just the way she hoped things would go when it came to encounters with strangers.
Not that she would be much more confident when it came to talks with acquaintances, though. The only people she truly thought she had stable ground when it came to conversations were her family, and even with them she found herself occasionally battling self-doubt.
She did, however, appreciate the way that the other was so casual in his demeanor, like talking to her was a very normal thing to do. “Hello.” She replied to his greeting, the small smile still on her face. “I suppose it is… or will be, anyway. It’s not completely dark yet.”
She half wanted to facepalm. Great start to a conversation with a stranger. The other half of her reminded herself that she wouldn’t have been able to find a different response if she tried and she probably didn’t care to.
He didn’t falter at her response; instead, he just smiled serenely, keeping his hands in his pockets. “It’s pretty nice out so far.” Honestly, he wasn’t a hundred percent sure why he was talking to her, aside from whatever unknown thing had caught his attention in the first place. “I wouldn’t expect someone like you to be wandering around outside so close to dark. Did you just get off work? School, maybe?”

Yu joon made an exaggerated grimace. “I look like a nice person? Dangit. My years of strategically building an image of terror, wasted.” He started to walk in the direction that he had just pointed at, his pace leisurely and his gaze turned forward. “So, like… do you come out in the night often like me, or is this just a sleepless night for you?”
Jeong yoon gave a laugh at that, soon following after Yu joon to walk next to him. “I usually come out at night. I mean, not that I come out super often, but when I do... it’s mainly at night.”
iwillchasemylight:
His eyes widened, then he grinned widely. He let out a chuckle as his gaze momentarily went down and then came back up, his smile shy but definitely pleased. “Don’t feel awkward, I’m really glad that you recognized me from music and decided to say hello… it’s an honor.”
He dropped his paws from his mouth only for them to settle in front of him, his thumbs gently brushing against his belly as he rubbed his knuckles together. “Easier said than done, but I’ll try my best.” His smile might not have been visible past his mask but it was certainly in his voice. “What a nice coincidence. It’s really great to meet you, man.”

She had been walking back home, not laden with piles of paperwork and also not having made to do overtime for once. She enjoyed work, but she was not really against having a little more free time in the evening either. That was the reason why she had been in a good mood, enough to let her glance linger on the person standing near; usually she tried to make as little eye contact with people as possible, being not at all sure she would say the right thing or just act the right way in general in case she was spoken to.
In this case, however, something about the person had drawn her eye aside from her current positive moods, and that something was, well, the general aura this person had about himself. Maybe it was the knife in his hands or the way he was dressed or the ease in his posture in general – she didn’t know what it was. But it was intriguing… in a nervous kind of way.
All in all, she paused, slightly surprised when she was greeted in the way she was. Then she gave a small wave as well, smiling shyly.
What exactly was it about this human that was so interesting to him? She looked, well.. average. In dress and mannerisms, anyway. He’d definitely consider her good looking, but a pretty face wasn’t usually what drew him to people. Maybe there was something in her that was subconsciously attracting his attention. Or maybe she just looked like she’d be fun to terrorize. Either way, he took her returned smile as an invitation to come closer. “Hi,” he greeted as he shoved his hands, and his knife, into his pockets. “Nice night, huh~?”
nobigdealnowadays:
He shrugged when he heard about feeling weird walking around at midnight, shooting the guy a smirk. Walking around at night could get you weird looks alright, and he couldn’t really blame the people that did that; the world had a lot of terrible people and there was no real way to judge that the weird guy walking ahead at night you was not one of them. Didn’t stop him from taking midnight walks, though.
“Oh yeah, that’s typical schedule for me. Maybe I made so many excuses to think this way, but I can’t concentrate on writing during the day.” He jerked a thumb in the direction that the guy had been walking. “If you’re taking a walk, mind if I walk with you?”
“Makes sense.” Jeong yoon had his own little daily rituals, after all. He personally wasn’t a writer like this guy apparently was, but he was more prone to sleeping through the mornings and only being really productive in the evenings. That one he couldn’t even blame on being a tiger, either, he’d been a bit of a night owl for most of his life. At the other guy’s question, he hesitated for a moment. On the one hand, he really would like the company. On the other, what if he accidentally exposed himself somehow? He decided that his loneliness currently outweighed his paranoia and he nodded. “Go ahead. You seem like a nice person who isn’t gonna dump me in a river somewhere.”
iwillchasemylight:
He felt bad when he saw the other shrinking in on himself. He didn’t make a habit of forgetting people, but there always was a chance that he could have. He shook his head at the stranger’s apology and gave him a smile in an attempt to comfort. “Don’t worry about it. Jeong yoon… hmm.” His brow furrowed as he tried to remember. “Well… my name’s Easton. Easton Davis.”
That certainly made Jeong yoon stand up straight again. His paws slowly came up to press together in front of his mouth for a moment. “Ohhhh my god. Your music. I listen to your music, that’s how I know you. Jesus christ, I’m awkward,” he said with a slightly self deprecating laugh.
@nobigdealnowadays He was leaning against a retaining wall in a park, close to sunset time, idly humming to himself as he repeatedly turned a butterfly knife over in his hands. He was people watching, and he liked his hands to be busy while he did it-- he didn’t particularly mind if his choice of toy made him look even more like an edgelord. Someone interesting walked by and he watched them for a moment. Then they accidentally made eye contact with him and his response was to smile brightly and wave the knife in greeting.
iwillchasemylight:
He had turned his head to look at the person, his eyebrows raised in confusion and also slight curiosity. When he found himself being talked to, he blinked, and turned around so that he would be properly facing them.
“Did… we?” He said. His brow furrowed as he tried to remember whether he had heard this person’s voice before – seeing as he couldn’t see his face. “I’m sorry. I’m… not sure if I recall…”
He sort of shrunk in on himself, which must have been odd to see given that he had a wide build and was taller than average. “No, no, you don’t have to be sorry-- I’m, like, completely covered up like a crappy secret agent or something so even if we have met you probably wouldn’t... uh. I’m Jeong yoon?”
nobigdealnowadays:
Yu joon shook his head, giving a little grin for reassurance. “Nah… actually, I think you got more surprised than I did. Sorry about that, didn’t mean to alarm ya.”
He was rather curious for the reason why this stranger had decided to be so armed for the cold tonight – sure it was winter, but he rarely saw people wearing ski gear in response to it. But then he’s seen a lot of people wearing or doing a lot of unusual things, and they usually preferred it if he pretended not to have noticed. That was what he had decided to do in this case as well.
He glanced in the direction the stranger had been heading. “I’m guessing you’re out for a walk like me?”
“Ah, yeah,” he replied lamely. “It’s kind of nice to know I’m not the only one who was thinking right now’s a good time for a walk. Makes me feel less weird.” He took a moment to just observe Yu joon. Now would be a good time to maybe say something interesting, start a conversation, but it soon became very clear to Jeong yoon that he was sorely out of practice as far as socializing went. “Uhhh... So. Are you usually up late at night, too?”
Don’t forget to smile while intimidating someone.
