This is a portrait of Elizabeth Siddal posing as Beatrice from Dante Alighieri’s poem Vita Nuova. The poem is about his unrequited love and mourning for Beatrice Portinari.

In answer to celeb-heaven: that "red-headed theme running through the pre-raph" has a name: Elizabeth SIddal! Do watch the 2009 TV series "Desperate Romantics" — only six episodes, but it's so worth it! Amy Manson's hair... and voice... (Thank you so much for your blog, by the way!)

Would be nice to have a few pics of the actual artists...(mainly men ) Ever noticed a theme running through the pre-raph ?... red headed women .... if they were alive today they would have flipped over Amy Adams and Isla Fisher !
