“You believe in feminism, just don’t worry about supporting yourself, that’s my job as the man”
Why should I have to rely on you for everything, when did I become useless?
“Don’t feel bad, women aren’t good at math and science-it’s just natural”
“Can you wear less revealing clothing in the weight room?”
How come the boys can run around shirtless?
“You know politics is a man-dominated world, good luck-you’ll be labeled a bitch if you stand up for what you believe in”
But why is standing up for what I know is right wrong?
“Women should be seen and not heard. Be quiet already!”
Yet, you can interrupt class to give your opinion?
“The rape culture does not exist-stop lying.”
Then why am I afraid to walk home alone or walk two blocks from the bus station to my job downtown?
Or afraid to go on my trail run in the middle of the day?
“The pay gap will always exist, you can’t change it”
Why does it exist in the first place?
“You know you’re a woman right, there are just certain things you cannot do?”
Are you aware you are an arrogant asshole?
Statements like this are not uncommon. Common talk in school-the work force even.
Yet when I try to stand up for myself, I should “Learn my place”, but quiet like a good domesticated housewife.
If they can make statements like this, why can’t I question them?
It is 2016… why am I still expected to accept being “lesser”?
