What was the point of Purple Rain?
Like, none of those lyrics fit M11 anyways (if anything, "Baby, I could never steal you from another" screams Will Byers). And it was so anticlimatic. Like... too slow for what was happening?
Don't get me wrong, it is a great song. But shouldn't they have chosen a song more desperate? Sadder? Angrier? You know, a song that has "i'm losing the love of my love right now" kinda feels? Argh, the scene + Purple Rain made me feel like it was a bit cheesy. It just didn't fit the mood.
Do you know a song that probably would've made me cry (even if I don't ship Mike and El)?
With or without you, by U2.
Yeah, I know, it's not really a lovely dovey song. But hear me out. This song would put in perspective all of their relationship problems (not being able to communicate, distancing themselves, the fact she would never be able to be safe etc.), but address that they still want to be together even though those problems exist (and I'll wait for you, with or without you). This song literally talks about not being able to let go, even when you know you should let go, but also not being able to be together because you would hurt each other in some sort of way. Duh, isn't that the whole M11 storyline?
We see Mike in the epilogue still mourning her and not being able to let her go, choosing to create a whole story to cope with her death. At the same time, we see him understand they're not able to be together because it would put everyone in danger, including herself. There's no way with her, there's no way without her. That's why his ending is so miserable.
And it has that rage in the end when they sing "and you give yourself away, and you give, and you give, and you give..." you can feel the pain. The anguish. God I wish they had chosen with or without you, I really think I could've believed in their love if that had been the song.
no bc it was such a bizarre writing choice to have the romance that is an emotional crux of your finale be so irrelevant during the season (and borderline falling apart last season), introduce a new love interest for half of that relationship that the audience gets invested in only to completely shelve it and act like nothing happened to the initial romance and the chemistry was peak the whole time. what.
Something that confuses me till now about the Stranger Things finale is that why didn't they put more effort into El and Mikeās relationship from the start of S5. They were left very ambiguous after S4 as we never got to see Elās response to Mikeās confession.
I don't know anything about how writing works for a show on a big scale as this show is but Iām pretty sure the creators and writers knew how it was going to end, and that El was going to have her big final emotional moment with Mike so why not make the audience more invested in their story for this season since the beginning?
And it's not to say they haven't written something of this sort before because at the start of S4, we see that Max and Lucasā relationship isn't solid, that they've broken up but still care for eachother. We see them trying to communicate, have a heart to heart, keep eachother safe, and make a promise of reconnecting once theyād have defeated Vecna which made Max ādyingā and Lucas scream and cry for her, holding her in her arms so much painful to watch. It genuinely touched hearts, that scene.
On the contrary, we see nothing of the sort for El and Mike, just that conversation on the Squawk rooftop about 3 waterfalls which didn't even read as romantic or personal just for the two of them, it felt like Mike was thinking about the whole Party there instead of just them. We don't see them have any heart to heart conversations, we don't seem them as a couple whoāre still in love with eachother and trying their best to be there for eachother when they easily could've written them that way.
That's why the mindscape scene feels so flat to me because there's no emotional weight to it, we as an audience don't feel that connected to their relationship at all. And to make matters worse they play a cliche āmike and el moments from S1-S4ā YouTube-esqe edit to nostalgia bait which just takes away the beauty of a scene that's supposed to be heartbreaking, that's supposed to tear you up.
hiiii! After seeing the masacre stranger things volume 2 and 3 was I decided to rewrite season 5, at the end of volume 1. There will be Byler (of course), Will being controlled by the mind flayer (again), Also a lot of DnD references! Also Elmike as friends, with a beautiful heart to heart. Im also gonna include all the "plot holes", Henryās backstory, Patty will be mentioned, why he need Will for his plan. But also Jancy, Rovickie, Jopper and Lumax! For the record, i wonāt make El die in my rewrite, because i think its not necessary. I really want to see my girl happy. And I can post some chapter on here when I finish them, will some people read it?
"noise" and it's queer people thinking they could finally be represented in a mainstream tv show
anyway i like to think that will byers got to see dead poets society in the movies in 1989
and if i said the will's epilogue bf would end up just like grant when mike comes to visit. if i said that byler parallels atyd wolfstar. heavily. well. then what
This is Stranger Things legacy by the way
your queer ārepresentation and empowermentā shouldnāt leave your actual queer fanbase feeling like this btw.
we should not be feeling like Will in the scene where he felt the most internalized homophobia and self hatred.
thatās just how fucked up this writing is and how intentional the queerbaiting was.
Please tell me Iām not the only one who saw it
