Got tickets to Hadestown again… for the last show with the current principal cast… in the second row…
Had a great weekend of theater in NYC (in retrospect I would not subject myself again to the emotional whiplash that is a Friday night Oh Mary performance to a Saturday matinee of Ragtime but still grateful I saw both).
Everyone says it, but Jack Wolfe is incredible in Hadestown. They are so small like a little bird and the SINGING!? He is only getting better folks. Epic II might have been the greatest musical theater vocal performance I have ever witnessed. Technically, the vocals are gorgeous, but it is how they display the character’s emotion that make it so impressive. The guy sitting next to me was yelling “BRAVO!” after Wait For Me and If It’s True which I didn’t know anyone actually said anymore haha. Before Epic III, Orpheus was trying to calm his trembling hands by squeezing them into fists it was very endearing.
Before I went, I heard people saying Paulo Szot’s Hades is pretty comedic, but I don’t know y’all - he was pretty darn menacing at my show. He didn’t even shake Orpheus’s hand before Wait for Me Reprise (he did a little fake-out).
Morgan is the perfect Eurydice. She was also intimidating me a little haha especially at the beginning. A fun thing she did in Way Down Hadestown - during the line “it’s a graveyard in Hadestown” she laid on the ground and crossed her arms like she was dead (foreshadowing???). The emotion in her voice when she is in peril is unmatched (which happens a lot). I’m thinking specifically of Chant when the fates take her things and Flowers.
Rebecca’s choices had me howling. She has so much charisma and brought the whole theater to life in Livin’ it Up on Top.
Kurt was out my performance. I saw Eddie Noel Rodriguez who was very solid (and glittery). Also, the fates were maniacal and frightened me many times (love them).
Anyway… thinking about when I can go back.
shut UP what do you MEAN jack wolfe in a queer irish noir movie AND he’s writing music for it
the day jack wolfe drops the original music they teased in that interview is the day i die you’ll never hear from me again

Jack Wolfe has infiltrated my interests in the past couple of years (Six of Crows, Spring Awakening, Next to Normal, and Hadestown), and everything I have learned about them recently warms my heart. What a thoughtful, kind, lovely person. If you are a fan of anything listed above (especially Hadestown), I highly recommend this read.
wait for me, I'm coming
