@presco
I could never get exactly right the playing of whoever I was listening to. I would miss a few notes here and there, or get a chord wrong. Through that, my playing ended up sounding a bit different from the person I was imitating. As the years went by, I sort of kept deliberately letting that happen. I think that’s where a person’s style comes from. I couldn’t execute what those other guitarists were doing. In a sense you could say my guitar playing is full of mistakes that came from trying to imitate other people.
JJ Cale
Dreamt last night that I saw you again you were staring at me asking
were we friends
You sat down in my seat, drinking from my cup and you stood in the door, wouldn’t let me up
I counted sixteen pills that you set on the desk You were grinning at me, at the bones in my fists
You kept talking through blood asking what you’d done I said - “Man, you wrong just about everyone.” “There ain’t a path you’ve crossed you ain’t run amiss.” – Just a-smiling at me, asking how I’d resist
I counted sixteen pills in an open palm up just like tea leaves in a china cup

It’s Time
I’ve been counting match sticks from the box and all the seconds in reverse on the clock, just waiting for you to tell me it’s time
I’ve been keeping my head well trained watching truth come grain by grain just once I want to hear that something is mine
Tell me it’s time
See myself as my own double looking back saying ‘might be trouble’ can’t say that I haven’t been trying
You’re puttin me on the midnight train every car’s runnin through my brain just once I wanna hear that something is mine
Tell me it’s time
Lost and found, you know I’ll be right here and I can feel as it’s drawing near just waiting for you to tell me it’s time
I Had Some Money (But I Spent It)
I had some money but I spent it never own it you just rent it better to live by a vision life given is a life worth living
count it up count it down seen all kinds going note for pound yes, i’ve got, my friend but you’ve never been on the receiving end
I had some money now I ain’t kidding I had some money but I never did no bidding
I’m sorry I can do it better, not suited to crawl in leather I know that you’d be more contented well, I had some money — I told you that i spent it!
count it up count it down i’m the type to buy another round yes, you know your friends when you found that you’ve reached the end
I had some money I ain’t kidding I had some money for the lowest bidding
I had some money I ain’t kidding I had some money never did no bidding
Straight Love Affair
If you wish to call it
a straight love affair I suppose I’ll leave it there.
And lips that start warm arms that may hold you soon cool, they fail, start to feel so cold, too.
Call it what you like please call it something nice the sound of paper as it tears it’s a straight - straight love affair
There are those who tell themselves they come in with clear eyes and when they love — if they love well, it’s very classified
and words that start hot dances start so closely soon cool and come apart the night spots just feel ghostly
Call it what you like please call it something nice the sound of paper as it tears it’s just straight - straight love affair
Call it what you like please call it something nice the sound of paper as it tears it’s a straight - straight love affair
Stanyan Street
I am just a young man wandering through a young life Here comes another night, ridin’ in the turntable light third floor window; Stanyan street on the corner i can see
She wore a green coat trimmed in fur I’d stay up all night just to see her not knowing what it’d be on Stanyan Street
Living young, getting so old everyone - everyone leavin’ me so cold
Playing TB Sheets on heavy repeat and the medicine keeps me void Running’ home in the rain half out of my mind with my friend Georgie boy
Third floor window I could see down on the corner of Stanyan Street
she wears a big coat trimmed in fur i’d stay up all night just to see her knowing what it’d be on Stanyan Street
Living young, getting so old everyone just leaving me so cold
Down on Stanyan Street
The Old Place
Knew the first thing when I got into town just what I would do: Catch a ride going down south just like we used to I wanted something - maybe peace of mind - instead I got confused because I went down to The Old Place and i got lost there, too
I saw people talking about trading that and owning all of this i bought myself a drink alone, I blew myself a kiss I wondered what I missed There was a lot of girls hanging around, but none of ‘em looked like you I went down to The Old Place and I got lost there, too
I asked for Jay, Doc, Viv and Jill I got nothing but a two-drink, thirty dollar bill I said ‘hey man, you know brother Matt?’ I got a “no” in twenty two seconds flat
I went down to The Old Place
Katchi
She give me Katchi
all night long
Leon: Well well well it’s been a long day I’m kinda tired, bring your soothing arms my way My back is aching and my body’s sore don’t stop honey, you know that I want more
She give me Katchi all night long
Nick: I went on down to Leon’s place he had such a beat look on his face i said hey man where’d you get those eyes he met a girl that could hypnotize
She give me Katchi all night long
Leon: Baby you’re tender touch is all that I need Nick: I swear mama, don’t you make me plead Leon: some find alcohol and some find drugs Nick: i just found my baby’s loving touch
She give me Katchi all night long all night long
Baby, I’m In The Mood For You (Dylan)
Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna leave my lonesome home Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna hear my milk cow moan Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna hit that highway road and then I get, oh babe i’m in the mood for you
Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna back up agains the wall Sometimes I’m in the mood i wanna live in a pony stall Sometimes I’m in the mood I don’t wanna do nothin’ at all then i get oh babe I’m in the mood for you
Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna change my house around Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna change this whole town Sometimes I’m in the mood I’m gonna change the world around but then i get oh babe I’m in the mood for you
Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna lay me down and die Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna fly up to the sky Sometimes I’m in the mood I wanna laugh until I cry then i get oh babe I’m in the mood for you
Tracy [Devil In Disguise] (Carlton)
I woke up one morning in the middle of a dream dreamed you said goodbye ain’t that just like a crazy dream, well it almost made me cry I put on my hat and I put on my coat running through the wind and rain baby baby open up that door tell me you love me once more
and my baby said Don’t you know your love is all I have Don’t you know your love is all I need Don’t you know your love is all I want all I have is you
Now here I am, all alone in the dark tears running down my eyes I’ve got to know if you’re an angel or a devil in disguise Ain’t that funny what a dream can do make you act like a fool make you think that the one who loves you has ever been untrue
and again she said Don’t you know your love is all I have Don’t you know your love is all I need Don’t you know your love is all I want all I have is you
I woke up one morning in the middle of a dream dreamed you said goodbye ain’t that just like a crazy dream, almost made me cry
and again she said Don’t you know your love is all I have Don’t you know your love is all I need Don’t you know your love is all I want all I have is you
Lucky Once
I’m in New York
old friend tell me you’re here
Lucky once, why not again? chance you’d reappear “Satin Doll” is playing and circumstance leads to lines of inquiry in between dances
Lucky Once, never twice Tell me please before they turn out all the lights I’ve been lucky once am i just lucky one time?
Quiet-drinking type, tame and tender with an even eye I’ll peek through every tavern glass i see - some chance I’d pass you by happenstance could happen and
Lucky Once, never twice tell me please before they turn out all the lights I’ve been lucky once am i just lucky one time?
I’m in New York, old friend tell me you’re here Please, leave me here to stay until I hear the band play “What Is There To Say” well what else is there for me tonight?
LA Turnaround
There’s a new course I had to charter but each time I turn, I turn just a little harder - Someone help poor me before I run all aground Honey, please, hear my plea
LA turn around
Did you hear me? So you think I’m the ghost Six hours or less I’ll make that run up and down the coast You turn so fast your feet down even touch the ground whistling…
LA turn around

Most crime movies begin in the present and move forward, but film noir coils back into the past. The noir hero is doomed before the story begins -- by fate, rotten luck, or his own flawed character. Crime movies sometimes show good men who go bad. The noir hero is never good, just kidding himself, living in ignorance of his dark side until events demonstrate it to him.
