The demon smiled a bit sadly, knowing things could never be perfect again, but they could still be good, “…yeah…” he answered, wiping at his tears, “I’m…I-I’m glad I did this trial too.”
Haniel cleared his throat, “Riley should rest, and i’m sure Emmett awaits to see if you are well. There is much preparation required for the next trial.”
"Do not worry." Xeros said with a smile. "Riley will be protected very well. He will be safe."
Riley smiled and squeezed Kindel's hand again. "Don't let me keep you here locked up! Go get ready and see whoever this Emmett is." He chuckled.
Kindel couldn’t help but sob at that, “Y-you’re too kind to me…” he muttered, sitting up a bit and holding the hand that had been on his head in his own, “I-I left you…for…f-for a demon, and you’re still so kind…” Kindel couldn’t help but be envious of that pureness.
Haniel had seen many pures in his time, and as always he studied the pure, wondering just what is was that made him so easy to envy
"You had your reasons... it's alright I promise. None of this is your fault okay?" Riley replied giving the hand a squeeze. "You'll be cured and everything will be perfect again like old times, you'll see."
Xeros was smiling widely now. "You two are great friends. I have no doubts on picking this as your trial now."
The bluette tried not to start crying at the mention of Draven again. His former lover had sent demons to hurt his best friend down, after he had told Riley they couldn’t be friends anymore. That was…so cruel. Why hadn’t he known…?
He placed his head on his hospital bed, hiding his face in his arms as tears began to leak from his eyes once more, “Y-you were right…” he muttered, “I’m…I-i’m so sorry…”
"It's alright Kindel." Frowning now that he had upset his friend. Lifting a hand he let it rest on the bluenette's head. "Love does a lot to a person, I don't blame you for choosing him. I'm happy that you are safe and getting a cure."
Xeros had never seen a pure this close before, and now that he was he was amazed at how honest and true he was. Most angels weren't even this pure.
Kindel gasped, looking at Riley with shock written all over his face, “Y-you know what I-I am…?” His cheeks burned with shame, though he was glad the other was at least taking it well
“You believed the other had no idea you were impure, Kindel?” Haniel asked curiously, “It is plain as day.”
That made his cheeks burn even brighter
"Draven told me..." Riley said with a frown, feeling well enough to sit up now. "Well... not directly. He told me he'd claimed you..." Lifted a hand he pressed it to the smokey mark on his neck. "I learned what that meant a few years later... after he sent a bunch of demons to take me..."
"You will have to stay here a few more days until your doctor let's you out, but you will be protected here I promise. No demon can get to you."
Kindel looked confused, and opened his mouth to say something when Xeros and Haniel appeared, “X-xeros…H-haniel…”
“You have passed your first trial,” Haniel announced, “Congratulations.”
The demon winced a bit, wondering if Riley had already put the pieces together
Riley was confused and he removed his mask again to speak. "Trial... you mean... there is a cure for what Kindel has?" He smiled brightly. He himself didn't know a lot. He knew what he was thanks to the demons who chased him. But not exactly, and he knew what Kindel was because Draven had told him he'd claimed him as his, and over the years he began to understand what that meant. "I'm so happy for you Kindel!" Though he looked to the others again, still confused about something. "Who are you then...?"
"I will tell you soon don't worry. There are too many people here that could over hear our words." Now that Xeros wasn't restricted by the rules of the trial he moved to Riley and held his hand over his heart. Healing the worst of the lung damage he had. Making it easier for him to get out sooner.
“He won’t this time,” he assured the other, wiping at his tears. He hesitated, but figired Riley had a right to know. Maybe he’d hate him, but at least it would be out in the open. Riley had been right about Draven all along, “I…I killed him, Riley…”
It took a moment for Riley to process this, but after he did he smiled widely and reached out to take Kindel's hand, giving it a tight squeeze "T-Thank you... you saved me..."
That's when Xeros deemed the mission complete and orbed to their room, though he still looked disappointed in himself. "That he did."
Gently, the bluette moved his friend’s mask back onto his face, so worried about him, “F-fear’s gone,” He assured the other, still crying, “A-and i’m fine…” he wasn’t sure if he should tell the other he’d killed him
"G-Gone...?" He mumbled through the mask. After a couple seconds he shook his head and lifted the mask just enough to speak. "But he'll be back... he always comes back..." He finished, replacing the mask.
A sob escaped the bluette when he saw his friend glance over and smile. He had been so afraid the other would hate him, or not recognize him. He still feared this, since the other didn’t know what he was yet, “Y-you’re alive…” he tried to wipe his tears, “T-thank god…”
Slowly Riley reached up and pulled the mask down, allowing him to speak. "Where... where's fear...? Did h-he hurt you...?" He asked, more worried about his friend than he was of himself, showing just how much of a pure the red head was.
The bluette nodded and hurried off to Riley’s room. He pulled a chair up and sat next to the bed, studying his best friend. Time hadn’t been kind to him, and he now ad marks on his from demons trying to corrupt him. He couldn’t help but continue to cry. If he hadn’t stopped being friends with Riley…would this have been different he had told Kindel multiple times that Draven was a bad guy…if only he had listened…
“See to it that you don’t,” Haneil replied, in an annoyed tone, “I don’t believe Emmett or Kindel would be too pleased if the impure failed a trial because you couldn’t bare to watch.” As blunt and cruel as ever
Xeros frowned more and nodded tilting his head down in shame. "I understand..."
After about a half an hour Riley groaned, his eyes fluttering. Slowly he realized his surroundings and came too, feeling the breathing mask right away. He was confused, trying to remember exactly what happened, turning his head a little he saw Kindel which made him smile.
Kindel gave a huge sigh of relief, slumping back against the hospital wall, “H-he’s alright…thank god…”
The elder snorted, not pleased Xeros intervened “despite your input, he’s put up a large fight. I suppose he passes this trial…”
"I apologize Haneil, I wont do it again. My own experience with trials got the better of me." He sighed, fearing he had upset his friend.
The doctor nodded, and the nurses wheeled Riley into a regular room. "You may go in and sit with him."
“H-he…” He tried to calm down, trying to think of something to say, “H-he kept screaming…a-and passed out! I-I was so worried…!” Would that work?
"Screaming? He'd have to be pretty terrified for that to happen..." His eyes narrowed suddenly, and after a moment he nodded. "I understand. He should wake up soon."
"I know it would have been better to let Kindel make up a story himself... but this would be a very hard thing to explain." Xeros said to himself, it had been him who went into the doctors mind to write a story.
The bluette was terrified his friend wouldn’t make it. He didn’t want to see this, but at the same time, he had to. The demon began to sob as they tried to revive Riley, praying he’d be alright, “P-please don’t die…p-please…”
It took a few shocks but eventually the had his heart beating again. He was breathing but very slowly. The doctor put him on a machine to help him breath and turned to Kindel. "I know you are upset, but how did this happen?"
Haniel watched the two in silence, analyzing the situation. There was a serious connection between those two. It was love…but what kind of love? the elder couldn’t tell, sine he didn’t have much experiences with such things, “I hear love often makes a person do crazy things.” he replied
Kindel kept running until finally he say the hospital and stumbled in, “P-please someone help us…!”
Several nurses ran over and helped Kindel help Riley onto a bed and rolled him away into an emergency room, and doctor following them in. A nurse mumbled about him unable to breath for so long that his heart had stopped. Another rolled over the machine to restarted it as the other ripped open his shirt and set up the paddles before handing them to the doctor. "Clear!"
