Not that I think all marriages are doomed but when deciding who to marry you should ask yourself “is this someone I’d want to divorce?” As in, is this someone I believe would be mature and fair, even when they’re upset and don’t particularly like me at the moment. Is this someone I could continue to trust while going through an adversarial process? And if the answer is no, don’t marry them.

the post about people shifting to “aroace is a spectrum” when it comes to Ryland Grace is SO TRUEEEE. AUGH

it almost feels like people initially accepted the “non-partnering aroace Ryland Grace” headcanon just because they thought he COULDN’T be shipped with anyone else (i.e. the sapient space rock alien who already had a partner, or the woman who sent him to space against his will in the first place)

but then they all saw Bloodymary and went “WAIT what if this OTHER HUMAN from a completely different space movie was ALSO there and they were in LOVE and DATING and MADE OUT with each other” and it’s just. hey so what happened. what about us.

it sucks too because before that, this was the first time i’ve seen such a widely accepted aroace headcanon- and i was OVERJOYED. i felt SO represented and seen. and suddenly it’s all gone. like everyone just moved on when the “better” option presented itself :/

(to clarify: i genuinely have no qualms against partnering aroace folks, Iron Lung itself (i haven’t even seen it lol), or crackshipping across fandoms - i just hate that it became the new norm so fast, and the non-partnering aroace headcanon got practically erased 💔)

It wouldn’t be so unbearable if all the shipping stuff wasn’t also in the aroace grace tags. Sometimes I scroll through aroace grace tags and see “this post has filtered tags: #bloodymary,” “this post has filtered tags: #bloodymary,” “this post has filtered tags: #strattland,” “this post has filtered tags: #bloodymary,” “this post has filtered tags: #grocky,” “this post has filtered tags: #bloodymary,” “this post has filtered tags: #bloodymary,” “this post has filtered tags: #bloodymary,” “this post has filtered tags: #grocky…” with like maybe three other posts in that mix.

And I know some of those are probably QPR, but that’s still a type of partnering, and still feels a bit like it’s overshadowing a huge, important part of the story, and it feels discouraging.

And every time I discuss this, I get yelled at for harassing people when IM LITERALLY JUST NOTING AN ALLONORMATIVE TREND AND POLITELY ASKING PEOPLE TO CONSIDER THEIR INTERNAL BIASES.

i wish there was a way to say "you're right, but this is really ineffective and even counterproductive messaging to anyone who doesn't already agree with you" without sounding like an asshole

I find myself having this conversation with white men over and over again. They're often not used to the concept of having to be palatable because people don't use their poor wording or their anger to beat them or their people down- they forget to care for the people they claim to protect.

Black women don't get that luxury. We learn to weigh every word because we know our anger will be used as evidence against us, our communities, and our causes. It isn't fair. I fucking wish it weren't true. But it is. So stop pretending your refusal to acknowledge that reality is somehow principled.

If your goal is to vent, then vent. I genuinely do not care- to listen or to comfort or to join. But don't call it activism, or act as though it's truly political at all. If your goal is to change minds, then stop making your own anger the centre of the conversation. Stop making yourself feel righteous while the people you're supposedly advocating for deal with the consequences. Every time you hand people an excuse to dismiss your point because you wanted the satisfaction of saying it your way, you've made their job easier. Congratulations. You got applause from people who already agreed with you and pushed everyone else further away.

And what exactly did you accomplish? Your intent doesn't magically erase the damage. Your catharsis isn't activism. Your outrage isn't strategy. Your refusal to think about how you're perceived isn't authenticity. It's self-indulgence. If you actually cared more about the people you claim to advocate for than you do about feeling right, and good, and angry, you'd spend half as much energy thinking about whether you're being effective as you do proving how angry you are.

Sometimes I wonder whether some of you even want things to get better. Whether you need us to stay hurt so you can keep performing your righteousness. Whether our pain has become a stage on which you get to prove how good you are. You talk over us, ignore us when we tell you your approach is hurting us, then congratulate yourselves for caring. You don't listen to us. You consume us. Jack off over it like ebony porn, like we're nothing more than a fetish. You project yourself onto us, get off on our struggle, on your own outrage, on the fantasy that proximity to our pain makes you virtuous. You don't want us free. You want us suffering just enough to keep performing your righteousness. We stop being people and become another way for you to experience yourself. Another body. Another fantasy. Another prop. Something exotic to consume.

Welp. My life has gone to shit so here's a notes game with me if you want to help out or not. I've been busy with work and therapy, and I don't do any self care or my hobbies and more, so here's bow many notes to do something for self care.
