Let the feeding frenzy begin.
NASAās Juno spacecraft just flew the closest any human-built object has come to the biggest storm in our solar system. On July 10, the spacecraft flew just 5,600 miles above Jupiterās most recognizable feature: the Great Red Spot. Itās a storm thatās raged for 350 years, and itās so large it could swallow Earth whole!

Jupiterās Bands of Clouds
This enhanced-color image of Jupiterās bands of light and dark clouds was created by citizen scientists Gerald EichstƤdt and SeĆ”n Doran using data from the JunoCam imager on NASAās Juno spacecraft.
Three of the white oval storms known as the āString of Pearlsā are visible near the top of the image. Each of the alternating light and dark atmospheric bands in this image is wider than Earth, and each rages around Jupiter at hundreds of miles (kilometers) per hour. The lighter areas are regions where gas is rising, and the darker bands are regions where gas is sinking.
