Well, actually it started with a headache, but youâre so accustomed to those, you hardly even noticed it.Â
Youâre sitting with Brendon on the couch, your face smushed against his bicep, legs curled beneath you. Heâs sprawled out, taking up as much space as he wants, and thereâs a show on tv that youâve been half-paying attention to.Â
You blink at it, the colors swirling a bit in your vision. If the anxiety was the first sign, the tingling that starts in your hands is the second. Itâs familiar, and it makes the dread youâre feeling double down.Â
âBrendon?â Your voice sounds odd in your ears, like youâre partially underwater. You can feel him shift to look down at you, but black takes over your vision before you can meet his eyes or even issue him a proper warning.Â
His voice is the first thing you become aware of after that. Itâs low, a bit tight with an unfortunately familiar anxiety. You realize youâre on the floor, the soft fluff of his carpet pressed to your skin where youâre laying on your side.Â
âYouâre okay. Youâre alrightâŠâ Brendonâs hand is brushing gently up and down your back. You try to speak, but the only thing that leaves you is a weak whimper. He shushes you, and his touch moves to your arm. âDonât try to speak. Just let yourself relax.â
The rest of your consciousness comes back slowly. A tingle in your fingers and toes, having to force your eyelids apart, and then struggling to keep them open while your vision steadies out again.Â
Brendon is sitting on the floor next to you, his hand still tracing soft, soothing lines across different parts of your skin. He hums softly when you curl into him.Â
âYou made it through.â He tells you, and tsks at you when you try to nod. âDonât do that.â
âSorry.â
âDonât apologize to me. Apologize to your neck.â He brushes some hair away from your face and then his fingers brush over your cheek. âLay here until you feel ready to get up. I can get you a pillow.â
He doesnât let you answer, he just gently shifts your body so he can slide the pillow below your head. You instantly feel better, and manage to reach out a shaking hand to find his own.Â

âCan you just hold me?â
You see the way his face crumbles, pity and love and apology and a million other emotions on his face.Â
âIâll always hold you.â He reassures you, gathering you into his arms so gently like he thinks you might shatter. You think itâs possible. âWhatever you need. Just tell me and I will always be there.â
