Glitch of Vainglory Technopath Noun Someone with the ability to control and manipulate electronics with their mind. "YOU CANâT KEEP DANCING WITH THE DEVIL AND ASK WHY YOUâRE STILL IN HELL "
He spent his days trying to come up with a plan to get out of his cell. Seemed like everything was going by so slowly. What the hell was taking so long? They had already cleared him, so was it all just a waiting game for him? He constructed a hard light copy of guns and began shooting at the glass, but every bullet just didnât seem to phase it at all. He screamed and yelled in anger. He was losing himself. He didnât know what was gonna become of him once it took over.
The guns disappeared as he finally had given up. He sat on his bed and started to sob. He didnât know what he was becoming. After a few minutes of self-pity and struggle, he heard a voice out of the blue. Eva. He jumped up from his bed and ran to the glass, trying to peer from the sides. âEva! Eva! Help! They got me locked up. Something going on,â He yelled, but didnât get a response.
He took a step back and closed his eyes, hearing a faint signal in his ears. His demeanor suddenly changed. Eva was the person who was the person who could vouch for him the most. She was the key to getting him out.Â
â Eva! Eva! Oh my god! Itâs so great to hear your voice. Iâve missed you so much! Are you okay? Are they treating fine?â
A beat and no response. A shaky breath escaped her lips and tears started to fill her eyes. Of course, it was too good to be true. Why would Jac lie to her? Was she trying to spare her feelings? Surely she had to know that eventually, sheâd find out?Â
A single tear had found its way out of the corner of her eye and was starting to slide down her cheek when she felt it. A tug at the connection and then a voice that she thought sheâd never hear again.Â
âOh god...itâs really you. I thought...I saw them kill you.â
She closed her eyes and more tears streamed out, but Eva was beyond caring. There was nobody else that could access the connection she had to Ollie. No way of fooling that part of her brain. Gulping she shook her head and focused on what heâd said.Â
âIt doesnât matter now. Youâre okay...hoo this day...fuckâ
She hadnât even been awake for that long but things were already so overwhelming that she was almost ready to go back to sleep. Almost. She needed to check in with Ollie first.Â
âIâm okay. Well, not really...but Iâm getting there. What about you? I was so worried. Where are you?â
As a woman who rarely wore makeup, she had forgotten about the blotches of concealer hiding yellow and purple marks that had taken their time fading. There were few cuts but the worst of them were hidden by her usually attire. (A pants suitâusually over a t-shirt but this time she was in long sleeves) The only part of her skin exposed was from the neck up and wrists downs. Her hair was pulled back into a loose braid. Her eyebrows had been filled in, and mascara coated her otherwise light eyelashes. With her new role, people she once called her superiors believed it would help her fit the part better. They needed someone people could take seriously and a banged up, pale ghost version of Celeste wouldnât do it.
âSo everyone keeps reminding me.â She murmurs on the comment about the comma. Ollie had said the same thing, with the same tone, but had held back his dislike for her far less. The woman who had applied her make up had also said it with a level of enthusiasm that oozed faked confidence.Â
âDonâtâ..â It comes out quietly but she stops herself. Eva and herself only gotten along half the time and yet seeing her like this put a rage in her blood. âWhen was the last time they re-bandaged?â Her eyes shift to a chart on the wall but itâs useless. âExcuse me.â Her voice isnât soft anymore. Itâs harsh. A nurse catches her eyesâshe hadnât meant to but the younger woman canât look away now. âShe needs new bandages, theyâre rubbing her wound. What good is that?â Sheâs scowling and the nurse is nodding quickly before hurrying off to grab new bandages. Celeste is turning back around to face Eva.
âAll they told me was everyone was fine. That they had it under control. Then I see Ollie and hear heâs murdered someone. I come in here and youâre handcuffed to a bedâhow is that âfineâ?â Celeste takes in a deep breath to prevent herself from showing anything but an emotionless version of herself. Her plan has been to push everything behind for now and deal with the consequences later when Hellfire wasnât just hundreds of people trapped underground. âItâs not my place to say whether you are here or notâor whether youâre handcuffed to a bed. But if they fall behind on attending to you, you ask for me, do you understand? Iâll do it myself if I have to.âÂ
If sheâd looked closer maybe Eva would have seen that the makeup and clothes were all a facade and Celeste was just as tired and broken as the rest of them, but she was too mad to pay attention. Too mad at herself for allowing herself to be tricked. Too mad at the universe for putting her in a situation where sheâd actually cared and feared for Celesteâs life. And too mad at Celeste for not instantly knowing all of that. It was petty and unfair, but Eva couldnât help how she felt.Â
She didnât get the chance to stop Celeste before she yelled at the medical staff for not changing her bandages. As the woman came back with a set of new bandages, Eva pressed her lips together, forcing the smallest smile she could get away with and addressed the nurse. âItâs okay, you can leave those there.â As the nurse turned to leave, Eva mouthed a quick thank you to her followed by an apology.Â
âDonât start...â she warned, eyes darting between Celeste and the bandages. âYeah...I guess none of us are fine, but weâre all alive and thatâs more than I could hope for after...â Evaâs voice wavered and her lower lip trembled. She squeezed her eyes closed and turned away once more, not looking back at Celeste until she was sure she could continue and change the subject. âBut I canât believe Iâm handcuffed and youâre offering to play nurse? Did I wake up in an alternate reality? It would explain a lot of things.â
As she spoke, her free hand reached up to clumsily start removing the bandage around her neck, teeth gritted in pain when her fingers brushed against the raw skin there. âFuck...they make it look easier than it is.â
Hours after Jac had left her to her thoughts, Eva had gradually started going through the few fragmented memories she had of the night she was rescued. If Jac was seemingly alive and saying that Ollie was too, then maybe she hadnât been seeing things that night. Maybe the man whoâd grabbed her really was Ollie and he was alive and well. Which begged the question...why hadnât he come to see her yet?
She hadnât attempted to use their connection since before the kidnapping, the collar stopping her from even trying to communicate with him. But now that it was off, she had nothing stopping her other than the fear that she would be met with nothing. That the only response sheâd get was white noise. Disconnected forever.Â
Relaxing as best as she could, Eva took a deep breath and allowed her powers to take control of her and gently prod at the intangible string of purpley pink code that had always connected her and Ollie, and hopefully still would.
She had been deemed safe for the time being. Safe enough to roam around with a silver bracelet around her wrist, beginning to edge into the pale skin and rub it raw in some places. Still, she wouldnât complain. All she wanted was to walk around freely, lay in a bed of her own, and be able to do something as simple as read a book without being watched. Among all those things, she wanted to see Eva. The mission that had been created to rescue her, the one she had been on, had been taken from her memory and she need to see the agent to know it was realâwhat they had told her.Â
She turned the corner until she was faced with the large overhead sign that read Medical Bay. It was odd, not need permission for anything now. Not only had she woken up only to be told of everything that had gone wrong, but she had been upgraded for the time being. Most of her doubted she deserved it but if it meant she got to see certain people without question, she would roll with it.
Pushing back a white curtain, she came face to face with Eva. Celeste swallowed then cleared her throat. âAgent.â It was her way of keeping things professional. Her throat tightened and she had to clear her throat again. Those were feelings that didnât need to be addressed trying to shove their way out of her mouth. âIâm checking around on our agents.â It wasnât a complete lie. âIâve heard youâre making good recovery.âÂ
It had taken her a full day to start to believe that she was actually in Tartarus again, but even then, Eva was having trouble adjusting to being back. She didnât know what memories to trust and what were remnants left-over from what had been planted in her mind. Memories had been stolen too, but you canât miss what you canât remember, right?Â
So far sheâd put together that neither Ollie nor Jac were dead, both pieces of information still shook her to her very core, and that nobody had been taken hostage other than her, which meant Eevee and Celeste were okay. Or at least as okay as they could be. Nobody whoâd gone to Iron Mountain came back unscathed. Theyâd all gone there to retrieve her and now they were paying the price for it. How was that fair?Â
It bugged her that she couldnât just get up and go back to her old routine. Between her kidnapping and the fact they were now trapped in Tartarus, everything had gone to hell. She couldnât exactly blame the execs and medical staff for not wanting a liability roaming the halls. But they couldâve at least loosened her handcuffs just a little.Â
She tugged on them again, testing their limits and then dropped back into bed with a loud harumph. And suddenly the white curtain that had been her only view, was gone and in its place stood Celeste, a sight that Eva had not been expecting. Theyâd both woken up around the same time, but while Eva was bound to her bed, Celeste had been able to leave. Or at least thatâs what sheâd heard. It wasnât like sheâd specifically asked the medical staff or anything.Â
Willing herself not to get emotional, Eva cleared her throat and looked away, although the moment Celeste called her âAgentâ, she found herself biting her tongue to not immediately lose her cool. âIâm fine. Glad you are too...you look good for someone who just got out of a coma.â She pursed her lips together and finally turned her head to really look at Celeste, wincing when the bandage around her neck rubbed at her wound. âYou already knew I was okay though.â Why are you here? Why do you care? Do you know that I thought your life was in my hands for all that time? Would you care if you did know? Multiple questions that begged to be answered swam in her head, but Eva merely turned away again.Â
Humans â no matter the serum running through her veins, wrapping around her bones â are fragile things. Be it a scraped knee, a broken arm â or a lost eye. Itâs bound something will happen, once. A scar will be left behind and the pain will fade with time. Itâs life. Accident happens. And Jac has made her peace with the hole in her face, now. Her head throbbed and the bandage covering half of her face itched, but there was little she could do about it. It wouldnât bring her eye back, thatâs for sure. Adapting would be the worst part, the one Jac would have troubles with â But she had to adapt to the now, the future â She was sure she could do it, too. The pain would pass, the gruesome sight of what once used to be her eye could be covered, and the discomfort of seeing with only one eye would soon be unnoticeable. Itâs not like she could complain about it, either. Her family and friends were dead â and well, no one else would listen.
With a sigh, Jac placed her book down on her lap, the sleeves of her sweater rolled up to her elbows as she closed her eye, taking in a deep cold breath. She would not allow herself to dwell in self-pity. Worse things happened to people.
Glancing to her side, she bit her lip when her eye landed on Eva. The only friend Jac made in this place. Her heart ached, seeing the girl like that, and Jac had to suppress a sigh, finger twitching and wanting to do something. Especially when she noticed Eva waking up. Sitting straighter on her on bed, she tilted her head to the side, gulping.
âHey,â she called out softly, not wanting to startle her friend, âEva, hey. You are okay. You are safe now.â
@prettyglitchin
A dreamless sleep wasnât something that Eva experienced all that often. Her mind was always abuzz with information; never able to turn itself off even while her body rested. But from the moment Dylan had knocked her out back at Iron Mountain, Eva hadnât had one single dream. All she knew was the darkness and the peace that it held. It was warm and welcoming and if sheâd had her way, Eva would have stayed in it forever. Unfortunately, that wasnât the way life worked, and even though sheâd been out for days, all too soon she was being ripped out of that haven and thrown into a world with lights that were too bright and smelled strongly of disinfectant.Â
Her eyes fluttered open slowly, trying to adjust to the brightness and the blur that came with feeling disoriented. She closed them again a few times before she was finally able to hold them open fully without any pain. The rest of her body was a completely different story. The more awake she felt, the more pain flooded her senses and made her want to go straight back to sleep.Â
It was only the gentle âheyâ that pulled her out and away from her dark sanctuary. She knew that voice well, but it couldnât be...
Gingerly, Eva turned her head in the direction of the voice and felt her heart sink in her chest.Â
âJac?âÂ
No that couldnât be right. Sheâd seen Jac die. The setting and everything else was different but maybe they were adapting. Changing up the things she saw to lull her into a false sense of security. Mission fucking accomplished.Â
âYouâre not real. I saw you die.âÂ
She closed her eyes and tightened her fists, the sharp tugging around her wrists making her eyes snap open again as she looked down at the metal restraints keeping her bound to the bed. The fight in her all but gone, Eva started to shake as tears fell from her eyes.
or the one where @eveofedens, @h4kku, @jacquclincs, @ohcelestex, @agenttarot & @dylvnkane infiltrate IRON MOUNTAIN DATA CENTER IN PENNSYLVANIA to save @prettyglitchin and encounter Some Shitâą.
A loose shirt hung to her body, losing all form as it took no shape, just a veil around her sweaty body. A black sports bra and tight gray shorts hugged her body, defining every curve that it pressed its fabric against. She pegged a glove between her side and under her bicep, pulling until her hand was free. It pushed back fly aways hairs while lower down her body, her chest rose and fell again as her lungs tried to fill with sufficient amount of air. Her freed fingers slip beneath the loose tank to wrap around one hip, her spine slouching as she glances at the mat beneath her feet. She pulled an ear bud from one ear and just as she did she heard it.
Her entire body tensed at once causing one big shake. A sharp pain shot through her chest as a hand moved to her chest. âChrist.â She ripped the next bud from her ear. Brows furrowed as she began to realize who had made the racket. There were few people with that raven black hair always cleanly ticked back in a hair band. The equipment and tools only confirmed her suspicion.
Those bruises were still staining her her perfect pale skin, though lighter, still visible. âAre you stalking me now?â The next glove is removed and dropped to the mat. Theyâre left behind as she makes her strides to the bench in front of where Glitch is working. Tilting her head back, she downs half a bottle of water then looks down at the agent she usually loved to antagonize. âI didnât realize you actually left that lab of yours. I wouldnât have believed anyone who told me iâd find you in a gym.â The bottle was pressed bak to her lips as she took the rest of the bottle. âBut maybe itâs what you need if youâre going to be fighting with people.â She doesnât believe for a minute thatâs where those marks came from and though it became harder to turn a blind eye to it, she forced herself to.Â
âHave you ever worn a pair of gloves? Been fitted for them?â She was already moving to the storage closet and examining the different sizes. Those hands were not fitting in a size small. When the agent returned she held out the pair to Glitch. There was no hint of amusement on her face, she was serious. The bruises had gotten to her more than she cared to admit. Nostrils flared. âPut them on.â
Instinctively she brought the broken skin of her hand up to her mouth and licked away the small bead of blood that had accumulated there, closing her eyes and sighing as she heard the other agent approach her. Of all the people she couldâve embarrassed herself in front of, it just had to be Agent Bull. âJust fixing the equipment. Not everything is about you.â It was already bad enough that sheâd gotten distracted and injured herself further. But honestly, how did the other woman look so good after that much exercise?
âI wasnât...â she trailed off, literally and metaphorically biting her tongue. It wouldnât do to say any more about what had transpired between herself, Shay and Kodiak. She hadnât done anything to deserve the marks she bore on her face but if she let anything slip then any additional punishment would be all down to her inability to keep her mouth shut.Â
âWhy would I...?â Eva didnât get a chance to finish her sentence before a pair of gloves were being held out to her. She rolled her eyes, waiting for them to be withdrawn and for it all to turn out to be some kind of weird joke, but there they remained. Tearing her eyes away from the offending item, Eva found herself searching Celesteâs face for any indication of mockery and found none. The older woman was being serious.Â
Her hands slowly reached out and took the gloves from Celesteâs hands, turning them over in her own, getting a feel for the weight. Even though she was now holding them, she was still waiting for the other shoe to drop. It just didnât make any sense to her. âBut why? Why do you care?â
Gesturing as if their hand was a key, Eevee slid their fingers across their mouth as if to say their lips were sealed, a slight smile peeking through from behind. âItâs not as if Iâd be shouting from the rooftops that I asked someone to read to me,â they countered in an almost whisper. Just because they didnât possess any powers, they were still an agent, and Eevee would never want to give the impression that they didnât belong here; that they could become too overwhelmed.Â
Pausing at her questions, they let a silent exhale escape them; one that would have been shaky if it had been audible. âI donât know as to why this bookâ I guess Iâve always been taken by Greek mythology and the dysfunction of it all? Like, they shouldnât work as a family⊠but they do? Maybe itâs a theme I gravitate towards.â Sheepishly averting their gaze, they lightly shook their head. âI donât know, it doesnât make much sense, but itâs just always been the book of choice when I was read to as a child.â
And now, as to why her? They were too ashamed to admit the truth; Evaâs features reminding them immensely of their favored nanny. The one who raised them; who truly cared for them when their parents were far too consumed with their work. Letting a sloppy shrug roll of their shoulders, they glanced around to the empty room. âYou have a very soothing and calming voiceâ a voice that lets you know youâll be okay even when you think you wonât.â
âIt really is all very childish,â they sat up slightly, feeling their cheeks grow warmer in abashment, âyou really donât have toâŠâ trailing off, Eevee remained keeping their gaze anywhere but Evaâs face in fear of judgement.
The young agent's response was something she could identify with and hearing their explanation made Eva all the more forthcoming about her own bond with the poem. âIâve always had a soft spot for it too. Mythology in general, but especially the Greek and Roman pantheons. I liked the fact that even the Gods, these omnipotent beings with extraordinary powers, were still plagued with flaws and problems that are generally considered uniquely human. It made it seem like if they could fuck up so badly, then my own mistakes wouldnât ever be as and in comparison. How wrong was I, right?âÂ
There seemed to be more to it than just an appreciation for her voice, but sheâd heard enough that she planned to do as asked regardless of the reasoning. âThatâs the first time Iâve ever heard that, but Iâll take the compliment even if I think itâs mostly the accent. And weâve already gotten this far...seems like a waste if we stop now.âÂ
She readjusted her sitting position once more and started to read the poem aloud, stumbling over the words a few times before she got into the rhythm of it. After 30 minutes of non-interrupted reading, she paused and looked up. âI hope you donât mind if we stop there. At least for now. I could do with a cup of tea and a little break. What about you? Tea?â

objective: in this mission, you must bring senator joseph kincaid, a friend of US ambassador [REDACTED], to tartarus and interrogate him for intelligence about the russianâs advancement in quantum mechanics and the nature of their alliance with china. according to reliable sources, kincaid is currently meeting russian quantum physicist, emilia lazarova, in an underground biotechnology research facility in monaco. agents must infiltrate the facility, retrieve kincaid to bring him back on US soil, and learn what he knows about the mechanism being built by the russians and chinese.
Arriving in Monaco, Team Viper were dropped off in a secure location close to the facility. Just outside of the facility perimeter, the agents discuss the best course of action based on the information they were already given about the operation and what they have managed to gather once they reached the location. Agent Glitch manages to hack into the camera feed and relays what she can see back to the group. There are multiple guards surrounding the entrance and snipers present on the rooftops.
However, the cameras are on a different network to the rest of the building's power and the walls are too thick to connect to anything else. She needs to get closer to be able to tap into the door controls. Agent Phantom volunteers for the task and uses his powers to cloak the two of them as they get closer to the building.
While this happens, Agent Lilith uses her powers to instil anxiety and fear into the guards and snipers, making them start to pick off each other, a process hastened by the aid of Agents Viper, Pynk and Zero, who make quick work of the distracted snipers. The toll of using her powers on so many people takes its toll on Agent Lilith though, and she succumbs to the paranoia that sheâs been inflicting on the snipers, allowing one to sound the alarm before he is taken out by Agent Zero.
Glitch, hearing the alarm pushes herself hard in an attempt to disable it and open the doors into the facility, and succeeds in allowing everyone to enter. However, as the group makes its way inside, multiple cybernetically enhanced soldiers appear. Knowing Kincaid may escape, the agents decide that Viper and Lilith should continue on and attempt to intercept Kincaid and to rendezvous on the jet, while the rest of them keep the guards busy.
Zero, Glitch, Pynk and Phantom face off against the soldiers, with Glitch doing her best to hack the tech parts of them and make the fight easier. She manages to cause malfunctions in multiple cyborgs before one of them takes her by surprise and clocks her so hard in the face that she is stunned and unable to continue using her powers.
Pynk tries to use her powers to distract them and allow the others to take them out, but she too is overwhelmed and gets slugged multiple times before one wrenches her shoulder so hard that thereâs a loud popping noise and waves of pain to follow.
While this is happening, Viper and Lilith track down Kincaid and Viper gets her hands on him and teleports the both of them to the jet. Lilith runs back to the others to tell them that they have Kincaid and in her distraction, one of the soldiers grabs her by the neck and snaps her neck with one swift movement.
Horrified, Phantom and Zero fight harder and between the two of them manage to clear a path for Glitch and Pynk out of the facility. The team looks worse for wear but are able to make it back to the jet with Lilithâs body, with help from Zero who builds an ice wall between them and the cyborgs. Before he does though, Glitch spots a severed arm nearby that is made up of both robotic parts and flesh and asks Agent Zero to freeze it, before wrapping it up and taking it with them.
The ride back to Tartarus is deathly quiet and when they make it back, they drag Kincaid into an interrogation room. They manage to get him to divulge a few key pieces of information through the use of Zeroâs powers, but they can sense he is holding back and decide to switch tactics.
Pynk uses her powers to generate an illusion of Kincaidâs family being murdered and after he watches them âdieâ he is a lot more chatty.
Kincaid reveals the Chinese and Russians are building a particle accelerator to open a breach to another dimension, and the first attempt was during the night of beyondâs death. He also reveals that China and Russia are building a quantum supercomputer for a cult composed of US politicians who believe that we are living in a simulation, without the knowledge of mkhellfire.
The US government has basically exchanged intel about how the Prometheus x serum was created, which involves material from an alternate reality (thus the particle accelerator to open a breach) and in exchange, Russia is providing the simulation cult with their quantum computing technology and China is giving extractives (minerals that are superconductors from Africa).
At this point in the interrogation, the executives barge in and order the agents out. They have little choice but to follow orders and filter out into another room where they are fully debriefed, asked to give their personal accounts of the mission and are warned not to talk about the events with agents who werenât there on the mission.
the sudden jarring pain only confirmed what nikkiâs heart dreaded: yep, she had teleported herself straight into a desk. she liked to think that if she had been in a better state, she most likely would have been able to keep herself upright, but given that she could barely stand up without swaying, the shock tipped her over onto the floor. hardly the most strategically advantageous position. âsorry eva,â she gave her a sheepish smile as she rubbed her now bruised hip. âearly morning wake up call?â nikki pushed herself into a standing position with a wince.Â
Her covers were strewn all over, but Eva made no move to retrieve them, as she rolled over and shifted to the side of her bed so as to get a better view of what she could now tell was Nikki. âIf you werenât already clearly hut, Iâd yell at you for scaring the shit out of me on my day off, but I guess Iâll let you off just this once.â Now that she knew she was in no imminent danger, Eva grabbed her pillow from beneath her, fluffed it up again and laid back down. âAny reason youâre in my room right now? Or were you just looking forward to seeing me so much that you couldnât wait for me to get dressed?â
She was definitely interested in how the other woman thought she could possibly keep the cameras from picking up their actions, but the prospect of privacy kept her from asking too many questions. âNatalie Albaugh, pleasure to meet you. Yours is?â She was ready to go, but at the very least, she should return the question.â
Already, Eva was making a note of the hallway they were in and how many cameras they were in view of, storing away the information for when sheâd go over the footage later. âEvelyn Quinn, but most call me Eva or Agent Glitch,â she answered, rolling her eyes when it came to her call sign. It had grown on her over the years, but there were times when she still thought it was a little too on the nose. âIâll see you in the library in a bit? I just have to finish stuff here with the cameras and Iâll be right there.â
