I don’t trust Hoyer. The way he just showed personal interest in Ghita’s career is unusual. Mads thinks so too, even though he’s not saying anything. Why would Hoyer pay special attention to a university student like that? It’s fishy and kinda creepy.
There’s also been some foreshadowing: Monsters hide in plain sight.
I think Hoyer is a monster keeping Ghita close by on purpose. He’s been grooming her all this time. She now trusts him, even sees him as a father figure since her dad sucks. That kind of wounding is exactly what a monster would take advantage of. When she starts to question him, he’ll say, “But I’ve been like a father to you. I see you as my own daughter,” to brainwash and manipulate her. She’ll think she’s heartless for doubting him, then start to doubt herself.
What’s really sick is Ghita’s biggest fear is getting schizophrenia like her mom. When she starts doubting herself, she’ll start to think she’s going crazy. She’ll think she’s paranoid for not trusting the one person who’s supported her all this time. Especially after everything he’s done for her in her career. He’ll prob say that too.
The Assassin
What was the assassin doing at the police yard? Just as Ghita was about to confront them, Hoyer showed up and called out to her. That’s when the assassin disappeared. Yet somehow Hoyer didn’t see the black hooded person in plain daylight. He’s covering for the assassin!
Which means the assassin was there to meet with Hoyer. They are working together.
Mads’ first case
Mads said the assassin went after a university student in his early 20s. That male victim had a girlfriend with some ties to the drug scene. They must’ve uncovered something. Maybe the male student wrote his thesis about it. Hoyer takes a special interest in university students, right? He must’ve read that student’s thesis which revealed too much information.
The girlfriend at the time was Ghita’s mom. Ghita’s mom managed to slip away, move to a new location, get married, have a family. Years later, Ghita’s mom realized they found her. She left to protect Ghita and hide because she knew the assassin was coming. Who sent the assassin after her? Hoyer.
But, I don’t think Hoyer knows where she is. She’s still in hiding and he can’t find her. Hiring her daughter who specializes in missing persons cases is the perfect way to find out where she really is. Ghita will lead Hoyer to her mom. That’s why she gets such special treatment.
Hedeager case
I think the way we handle Hedeager’s case will impact Ghita’s relationship with Hoyer. Is she gonna go hard or easy on him? If we choose to go hard on Hedeager, Hoyer will know that Ghita’s a whistleblower. He knows he’ll need to be one step ahead of her all the time. If she gets too close to the truth about Hoyer, the assassin will pay her a visit. (I do wonder how the assassin will become a LI. Maybe a fling like Anders? 🤔)
The magnet
Sent by Hoyer. He’s giving her a major clue and kickstarting Ghita’s search for her mom. He really wants to find her.
Mads
Mads mentioned he was undercover in Sweden. I don’t think Hoyer knows about it. Everyone thinks Mads solved his first case. It must’ve been a different case that came after Sweden. That means no one knows about Mads’ involvement in that earlier case. Except Ghita. He’s gonna be key to finding Ghita’s mom. Not only that. He specializes in organized crime. He’ll prob figure out Hoyer is connected to some kind of organized crime. He’ll connect the dots from what he knows from Sweden and what they find out in Ghita’s search for her mom.
We’re already heading to Greenland. Will Season 3 take us to Sweden?🤔 Probably Aalborg at some point.
I know the (for now, relatively small) Dept. Q fandom is mostly talking about Carl Morck, but I for one am already a BIG fan of Akram Salim.
Like, he is a Syrian refugee with a mysterious backstory and insane combat and detective skills because of that. But he is also the sweetest soul, used to be a stay-at-home dad for his two daughters, as his wife is a doctor, and he brings sweets when applying for a job.
