basically stuff is that deep when itās something I find interesting and when I donāt then it isnāt. Itās that simple
I also donāt fully understand the impulse to treat historical inaccuracy like itās an automatic moral failing. for me it bothers me when it makes things more palatable for a contemporary audience. Like when a movie is set in the 40s and they donāt give them those extremely thin eyebrows because they want the actress to look hot or theyāre doing a medieval show and they wonāt put the women in a wimple (see above). But it often feels like people are really focused on accuracy just to have something to say. The things we choose to preserve or forget further some sort of political agenda and if thereās an extreme historical anachronism in something I want it to be pointed out in a way that explains why that act of forgetting or rewriting is politically relevant.
Like with corsets for example. Iāve never understood why itās important to prove that clothing isnāt as oppressive to women as movies make you think. The corset is functioning as a visual metaphor for the restrictive role women occupied in society for an audience who might not be familiar with that period of history or style of dress. People have tried to explain the corset stuff to me but it doesnāt make sense. In a world with misogyny clothing will always be oppressive to women. Imo saying āwell actually these garments were slightly more comfortable than weāve been led to expectā is like saying āwell actually many people would wear insoles in their high heels so they were slightly less uncomfortable than youāve been led to believeā like no matter what your foot shouldnāt technically be doing that.
To me the corset is never just a corset in and of itself. My biggest issue with the corset in film is that it gets used as a shorthand to present a narrative of progress from oppressed women in the past to liberated women now when womenās civil rights still kind of suck everywhere. I think I have a very warped sense of what makes a movie good or not because I spent a lot of time in my young adulthood watching stuff that was made from like filmmaking collectives where the entire crew gets paid the same or experimental plotless video art for school so I just go into all Hollywood movies knowing that whatās playing in theatres is like the extreme tip of the iceberg on the scale of possible woke and basically rate them on if I liked them or not. So like. Is this the best possible outcome for what this movie could have been given the context it was produced in? Itās a very enjoyable way to watch a movie and I have a lot of fun until I donāt basically. All that said I did enjoy the odyssey

like it just doesnt make any economic sense. replacing human labor with ai only makes sense if the output is as good or better and cheap as free. but just the fact that you have to build the massive data centers at all-- especially that gpus go bad in just a few years, but even if they didn't, the facility itself is going to be a big expense-- means it cant be cheap as free. they were banking on an uber type situation where they could crank up the prices once people switched to their business model, but the trade is literally "this will be cheaper than using human labor" so if it's not cheaper than human labor then people will just hire people again. and it's not even as good or reliable as a person. so while ai is "here to stay" in the sense that the technology exists and will find its niches, probably people are going to be sexting with them forever just maybe on local models, the current business model cannot survive and never possibly could.
it's all desperation. i do really believe ed zitron's rot economy idea, that the tech sector has been searching for a new internet or iphone or whatever that blows up and changes the world and they get to keep the profits so they'll uplift any garbage (hence nfts and the metaverse) to try and astroturf that. and relatedly, i think nvidia and the cloud compute companies and the ai companies are just passing the same dollar back and forth to create big numbers that paper over how bad the economy really is. it's all an attempt to keep the infinite growth hack going.
like i actually think all of the problems with ai are problems that already existed that are just getting a huge spotlight on them because of the massive reckless expansion and apocalyptic marketing. like people are cheating on essay assignments? no shit, they used to use fiver and other cheating services. higher ups are devaluing and trying to get rid of creatives? yeah, we've been talking about how vfx artists need to unionize for over a decade, especially people working on marvel movies. people with mental health problems are turning to the internet instead of getting support or medical assistance and end up hurting themselves as a result? yup, especially when it comes to like eating disorders, there are some really awful places that will validate you into the grave. data centers use a lot of energy and water? yeah, they also did that before they were used for ai, they do that for youtube and twitch, and tech in general is a massive source of pollution. politicians arent listening to their constituents' needs and demands, instead handing money and special privileges to corporations that wont keep up their end of the bargain? yeah, i remember the public transit proposals cancelled to hand money instead to elon and his terrible tunnels. like it all already existed, they're just doing it so much so quickly that people can actually see it in front of them

The issue Iām having with Ariana is sheās neither closeted nor uncloseted sheās this weird in between thing where she has never said sheās straight but she also released one song implying sheās bisexual and then liked a bunch of posts that said stuff like āitās okay to not come outā so you get things like people making pride edits of her calling her āunlabelledā instead of stuff thatās genuinely fun and funny like her getting labelled a notorious queerbaiter. But sheās like juuuust uncloseted enough you canāt really make jokes about it but then just closeted enough you feel like a Christian mom at Disney world looking for hidden mickeys. That kind of stuff really wears on you
this is actually kind of illuminating for me because itās a real time case study in how being such an intense people pleaser that you donāt really express anything about yourself can be really difficult and kind of annoying for other people. Like itās often better to just pick something and stand by it because then you either have notoriety or integrity. You pick neither because it feels safer and you end up balanced on your tip toes while your dog pees on a pole to appease people who think wearing your hair in a bun is āplaying the victim.ā

the issue with stanning a closeted celebrity is that everything they do or have done makes you feel like a gaylor or a Larry but the issue with stanning an uncloseted celebrity is theyāre usually really boring about it. most people lean significantly more canva cover romance novel than 070 and Lily rose. but when theyāre closeted theyāre often performative and crazy. like ginger spice is now living a genuine Galinda upland experience right now like the plot of wicked has genuinely unfolded between her and Mel B. or the Gelphie bits anyways. or when the interviewer asked if Barbara stanwyck was gay and she threw him out of her house. these are fun things people can do. but if youāre a gay woman youāre so demonized that you literally canāt do anything fun ever. I feel like Chappell and Cynthia could be major divas but the world wonāt give them an inch of grace

Basically Iāve realized that when Iām around other normie cis women I start off usually neutral to positive in their eyes. assuming the person is relatively liberal and not actively discriminating against me for other things. Every time I fuck up a social interaction autistically or reveal something gay about myself I lose female camaraderie points which usually starts happening immediately. But with men I assume Iām at a negative balance because they already think Iām subhuman so I have nothing to lose. And I also donāt assume that any action I could take would convince them to respect me if they didnāt already. With women it does genuinely feel within reach which is partially why I crave female approval so much. I think a major part of unmasking for me is going to be accepting that I also donāt have control over whether or not women will approve of me if I reveal things about myself that were always there and they like me less
had somewhat of a breakthrough today about autism and gender relations and realized that interactions with men feel lower stakes to me because men and women are so often talked about as being essentially different species that if I do anything weird theyāll just chalk it up to women being incomprehensible or stupid or they didnāt respect me anyways. Itās like going to an interview for a job you wonāt get for the practice. Whereas if you do something wrong around women they know immediately and consider you subhuman where they might not have before. So their approval means more and their rejection feels worse
also on a practical level with how gender segregated our society is you can still have an extremely rich life with little to no contact with men but I donāt think itās possible to live as a woman without social contact with other women. In terms of care and protection and social needs being met. Itās very normal for women to have exclusively female friends and be closer to their mothers than fathers regardless of whether or not they date men at all. Even a lot of straight women have basically no contact with men socially outside of dating. Whereas if youāre a woman who doesnāt have strong ties to other women youāre extremely vulnerable in this world. I think it is genuinely more dangerous to be unpalatable to women than men. But also thatās my perspective as a queer woman whose relationship to gender is fairly normative outside of the gay stuff and can largely go unnoticed in large groups of women. I would be curious what other peopleās take on this all is
TLDR in my opinion cis women are basically the hardest group to convince when youāre autistic but also the most important group to pacify. But Iām specifically curious about what trans or nonbinary or butch autistics experiences are. Because in many ways cis women are also major threats to you guys. I donāt have personal experience with those things I can only speak from the perspective of gay sex and autism #mygaysex #myautism but otherwise how I present gives me a ton of mobility in terms of what spaces I can go and how other cis women immediately perceive me when Iām there.
