mumbleâs story is an inherently gay narrative
this is MOST DEFINITELY about the penguin
me: thereâs gay subtext in happy feet
christians: you bet your ass there is!!
I MEAN HELLO???
*kracks knuckles* alright, so. This is a perfectly valid headcanon.
However, itâs important not to erase the narrative. This is a story about ableism. Mumbles is the only penguin who canât sing, and his father thinks thatâs because he dropped his egg, which is said to be enough to kill a child.
Mumbles is canonically disabled in both a social and physical way, his coat not changing much from childhood and him being unable to interact with other penguins in a way thatâs seen as integral to being a part of the society. He is shown to be almost incapable of containing his feet when heâs happy, pointing towards evidence that dancing is one of his stims.
This is very likely a narrative about autism, though it definitely overlaps with the gay experience.
Mumbles is autistic and gay and nothing you can say will change my mind.
