"Now, don't you go abstracting on me, too!"
Hiii, few days ago I wrote a very long analysis about Caine and how he paralleles other characters in tadc. Hope you'll enjoy it!

Driven by jelousy and fear of abandonment
Let's talk a bit about Caine
When talking about Caine and why he can't connect with humans properly, a lot of people mention only the fact that he's AI and doesn't understand humans. Which is true, but it's not the only reason.
I myself already made another analysis, where I wrote about how Caine's wish to control everything stops him from building right connections with humans as well. In the end of the day, NPCs created by him don't have this problem. But in ep 8 we finally found out the reason behind a lot of Caine's actions: the fear of abandonment and jelousy.
In the early stages of development, after understanding that Caine/red AI was unstable, devs abandoned the project, cut Caine off. For Caine it meant a harsh lesson that drove him throughout the series: "you're either fulfill your purpose or you'll be abandoned". That explains why he cares so much about the cast liking his adventures. I think, the fact that all his creators except Kinger abstracted exacerbated his fear. Caine recognizes that players abstract when they can't bear living in circus anymore. So everytime someone's abstracts, Caine understands "I disappointed another person". And when it was his creators who abstracted, this thought probably his especially hard.
But Caine wasn't just abandoned, he was abandoned in favour of another AI. Kinger himself doesn't consider Caine a failure, he's actually very proud of him even if he wasn't ideal. But Caine, after being cut off, learned that if there is someone who does his job better than he dies, it also makes him a failure.
So everytime someone's better than him, he panicks. When Gummigoo becomes friends with Pomni, Caine deletes him. When Abel becomes "too smart", when he's able to convince the cast he's human(something Caine failed to do), he deletes him as well. When players enjoy their own adventures more then hos adventure, he panics.
In the end of episode 6 he gets the last place while Kinger gets the first place (which is sad, since the committees are NPCs, controlled by him, so it's his own rating). And what he does in the next episode? He creates an NPC who tries to convince them that Kinger's untrustworthy and that Caine deserves their empathy. But he fails again: Kinger's still loved at his worst while Caine's still hated at his best.
Abel/blue AI has being gone for ages. Abel didn't create circus - Caine did. And still Caine worries about being "the lesser of the two". And this thought makes him desperate for approval and do all these mistakes he did in episodes 7 and 8.

"i'm slowly forgetting my face"
I imagine that at first both Ragatha and Kinger unintentionally poked each other in their sore spots. Ragatha randomly mentioned stuff from real life and Kinger thought "I used to be a real person too once". And Kinger struggling to remember Ragatha's name made her feel even more insignificant. And then she thout she was an awful person for feeling that way because she knew it wasn't Kinger's fault
They were both disasters but they were all they had
I like to imagine that Caine had better relationship.with Queenie than with Kinger. And that Quennie had a "Caine can be human like us" mindset while Kinger had a "Caine'll never be human but he's still sentient, alive and important" mindset
Idk if it was intended or not but I like(and hate) the fact that conditions in which Kinger becomes lucid make it harder to read his emotions
Like his eyebrows appear when he shows more complex emotions that can't be really shown just with his eyes, end usually he shows more complex emotions in the dark. But since his eyebrows are black, they're harder to notice them in the dark places
And ironically in the episode where he's finally lucid most of the time, his face is covered with a bucket😭 so again, harder to read his emotions(but I wished we saw it in the caffe scene)
I might be overanalizing here but for me it symbolizes how he never truly open to others and still doesn't let on a lot of stuff
Correct me if I'm wrong but the only scene where we can actually read Kinger's emotions well for long enough is the flashback, since he's sane and in the light here
It's the scene where we can actually see fully what kind of person he is
Frames with deleting Caine should be mentioned since even tho Kinger's in the dark AND with a bucket here(why did he keep the bucket in the dark lol) we still see his emotions very well
But he's alone here so he has no reason to hide anything
And when he leaves pillow fort he rolls back to darkness+bucket combo when it's hard to fully read his emotions
BUT to be fair when he tells the cast about killing Caine he kinda opens up a little. Like he lifts the bucket so we can see a bit of his shocked face
The fact that Caine sleeps is a bit funny cause he really doesn't need to. No one in circus does, but humans do it to have some kind of routine from their old life. I like to think that Caine learned to sleep from.humans and do it when he's bored
Kinger and Caine's relationship or what could of been of it makes me insane.
This specific line is the moment when Kinger gets new hope I think. His tone, the expression change and the way he nods, before that he was acting a little slow and it feels like here he finally processed what just happened
It's like he's saying this both to Ragatha and himself:)
I thought I was loosing my mind, but no, Circus used to be emptier in Kinger's flashback
Detachable hands
Also I remembered that both of them has detachable body parts so here's Zooble and Kinger interaction no one asked for:
Yeah Ragatha's appearance pulled Kinger out of his depression but imagine how terrible and awkward their first weeks together were. Caine, who is...well, Caine. Kinger, who didn't interact with people for years at worst. And frightened Ragatha, poor girl
Kinger probably sometimes forgot there's another person in the circus now. And Caine was probably SO excited that there's a new person he can impress with his adventures that he didn't really give Ragatha breaks and Ragatha was too nervous too speak up, so it continued until Kinger noticed(and it took him quite long to notice) and talked to Caine.
I'd watch the whole show just about Ragatha's first months in circus, it's such a disaster. Caine and Kinger were used to this place and it's rules, they've been there for 9 years, they probably sometimes didn't even think about that some stuff should be explained to new people. Imagine how Ragatha freaked out when she "died" for the first time during adventures, because Kinger forgot to explain to her that you can't die... like that in this place
How do you even tell anyone about this?
'i hope not'
