Ferocactus emoryi subspecies rectispinus

This Ferocactus from Baja California is notable for its very long central spines (surrounded by a group of shorter spines). Normally these long spines are straight (rectispinus means "straight spines"), but sometimes they may curve towards the tip. It is related to Ferocactus emoryi, which comes from the other side of the Sea of Cortez, but its extra-long spines make it a standout.
