The lack of a bountiful crop was the first thing the raiders noticed as they approached the village. The second was the strange young man sitting at the edge, resting his arms on his knees and his head on his arms. He looked filthy, covered in head to toe with the dust and dirt the area was known for whipping up into the air.

The silence hung in the air, only the whistling of the wind could be heard. Finally, one of the raiders broke the silence. “Where’s the food?”
