The gender swap dynamic was the whole point of Fionna and Cake. It was the fun! It's why those episodes were made in the first place!

But the second the rules mean they need to include a trans woman...out the window, she's a genderless plant person that just happens to develop female characteristics as she grows. Sounds a lot like female puberty to me...

Hunter's breasts (or lack there of) are shown proudly to signal to the viewer his overt transgender identity, but Huntress gets no such fanservice moment. Her breasts appear. They just show up as she grows. She does not need to assert her own gender identity, Fionna assigns she/her while she's still a 10 inch cabbage patch kid. Huntress Wizard might as well be afab.

Maybe the show will include more scenes that do show Huntress is transfemme, atleast in some Oo way. But to have her gender swapped counterpart be transgender overtly and to chose a more obfuscated path for huntress is just. It makes me sad.

I was so excited for trans Huntress Wizard, but I don't think we're going to get it. Trans women cannot be allowed on television.

I can understand where youre coming from, but I really dont think thats a good interpretation of the gender expression in this story.

The whole "assigned plant at birth" thing can be a joke if you want it to be, but the fact is huntress isnt human. Her biological sex, if she has one, is not something that fits in a human binary. Her chosing to present as female is indicative of an identity she landed on herself.

Plus, we dont know what pronouns huntress used as a child. For all we know, maybe she was training with her father because he thought she was a boy

Huntress and Hunter are both people who chose to present as a gender other than the one they were assigned at birth. They are both currently presenting as genders opposite to each other. Their current statuses as a trans man and a trans woman are what make them gender-bends of each other, not what genders they were in the past.

Just because nobody explicitly misgenders either of these characters doesnt mean they arent good trans representation.

And I'm sorry that the animators didnt give her a plant dick, but just because Huntress isnt the same kind of trans as Hunter doesnt mean she isn't trans. She doesnt need to have a very specific gender background in order to be the "correct" gender now.

July 20th is Moon Day and I want it to be way more obnoxious!

I'm sick of all the boring normie summer holidays. We need a new big blow-out thing that we all actively look forward to every year, and I nominate Moon Day.

July 20th is the anniversary of when humans first landed on the moon- one of the greatest achievements in our species' history, and I cannot believe we don't make a bigger deal out of it. We landed on THE MOON.

We should be taking July 20th every year to celebrate the beauty of our celestial sister-world, the drive and perseverance of the human race to actually make it there, the jaw-dropping genius of the women who wrote towers of mathematical formulas to make it possible, the bravery of the astronauts who went there and came back in one piece, the cool rocks they found!

Moon Day shouldn't just be a day where we go "oh that's cool," and move on. It should be a day where we we get to ignore the idiots in power who are trying to ruin our good name and scream to the sky "HUMANS ARE AWESOME AND WE CAN DO AWESOME THINGS"

Anyway, as much as I love gushing about the moon and moon day, I'm drawing a blank on what new traditions I'd actually want to attribute to it. But if I ever get the chance, I would really want to start some new traditions in the local community (On the grounds that it's been a while since I've seen anyone do that).

In an ideal world, I'm envisioning an excuse for a nighttime summer festival, showcasing lunar symbolism and rituals from around the world, moon-rock candy, alien mascots or something, people showing off cool science projects, idk.

How did you figure out the design for Sissi’s Lyoko form? Is it based on any specific culture?

Since Sissi is fairly skilled in the Pencak Silat classes she takes with Ulrich (a fact that is rarely brought up in the show, but a fact I adore nonetheless), I wanted to lean into that Indonesian martial arts aesthetic.

It's not exact, and I may tweak her design later to better represent the robes usually worn in the sport, but that's the origin of her outfit.

And as for her horns-

There's a lot of thematic reasons regarding her bull-like behavior and temperament but for the most part it's because I kept thinking of scenes like this and it always made me laugh.

Disney's 100th anniversary film should've been a Kingdom Hearts movie

I'm partially joking but okay look,,

I hate Disney too and I am not even gonna waste my breath complaining about Wish in this post because I just do not care about Disney anymore. But it used to mean a lot to me, so I can dream about what a 100th anniversary would've looked like in a world where they didn't completely fall from grace. And I think it looks like a film adaptation of an absurd, convoluted but genuine love letter to old Disney movies. It'd be weird, it'd be cringe, but it would be fun.

And for the love of god, it would be hand drawn in fucking 2D.

I only just got into the Legend of Zelda series a few years ago with BotW, and I absolutely love it. But every time I play through one of the older games, I discover connections to the newer games and find myself baffled by how many people just like, actively refuse to interact with some of the lore.

Like, the Zelda community is such an amazing place for community theorizing and conspiracies, and the people involved are so smart and passionate about this stuff. But then the moment I try saying "Hey, I think the Ancient Robots from SS and all the glowing-green robots from TP might be related to the Zonai Constructs from ToTK"

or "Hey the ancient guardians from those astral-realm trials kinda look like the Zonai, and also have 3 eyes??"

or "Hey, ancient mysterious flying islands with blocky Jomun-inspired architecture also appear in Twilight Princess and Four-Swords Adventures..."

"...Do we think the writers had this in mind for longer than we thought? Or maybe they're connecting older unanswered stories to try fleshing out the world's history?"

I'll definitely see a few people point these things out but then I see an overwhelming amount of people who just respond with "hmm. Nope. Can't." or "Stop putting so much thought into it it's not that deep."

Like omg who cares if it's not that deep? What happened to forcing Nintendo to retcon in the "three timeline" thing? Where's the pizzaz? Where's the imagination?

Whenever someone starts talking about voting resources, I always like to boost Vote411! Run by the venerable non-partisan nonprofit League of Women Voters, you can register to vote, check your registration status, and also research your entire ballot and compare candidates, down to local races and ballot measures. Then you can email your choices to yourself (or print it out, if your state doesn’t allow phones in the polling place). The pre-research makes the physical voting process go very fast, which is ideal in this time of pandemic but also great in normal times.

If you’re new to voting and want to plan, or are just wondering things like “WTF is a Texas Railroad Commissioner and why do I care?” (answer: actually super important and in charge of oil/gas/mineral rights) or “there are 14 local judges to vote for, who??? are these people and where do they stand on important justice issues?” then this is the site for you.

I think people need to start talking about both sides of this as the same argument and not as opposites? Direct action is probably the most important thing we can do right now and honestly? An uprising to overthrow the whole fascist system would do way more good than harm. But people also need to be politically active and this wide push to get people to vote is to try getting people to vote for EVERYTHING, not just the big elections that are polarizing and likely rigged anyway. If on a base community level people are normalized to socialism and humanitarian ideals then it becomes easier to have numbers against fascists.

And that then lends to your question- we need to normalize voting because the white people who show up to vote get to swing their election Republican while suppressing the voices of minorities, and a lot of the rest of us only get involved once every four years to be performative. White people dont do enough, convince ourselves that voting is pointless, and then blame everyone else for not being active enough. With that looped back around, spreading that narrative is actively silencing leftist voices.

I dont have a real answer, and its something I wish I saw people talking about way more often because this needs to be something that everyone knows. You're absolutely right on that. And the more impactful thing to do right now is to protest and revolt and make our voices heard that we refuse to live like this, but the outrageously stupid thing is that if we dont have voting numbers in there as well then non-minority groups can still turn their noses and pretend that were all just outliers. The argument isnt that we shouldn't take direct action, its that while were taking direct action we also vote, and do so for anything we can vote for so theres at least a chance for people to un-rig the game. And if that doesnt work, we keep going with the direct action and tear it down. But when we make a new system it has to be one in which people know to vote for their laws, know how to avoid voter supression, and make sure that nobody comes out on the other side thinking that voting does nothing.

I may be alone in this but I really miss how we used to be obsessed with our page theme designs?

Like yes, Im just cranky because I spent a lot of time playing with/learning coding and got my art blog lookin nice n spicy right before people stopped caring about themes. But also, this is the only social media website where you still have freedom over how your page looks and I hate how staff just made the whole thing completely Dashboard/Mobile focused.

Every other site completely did away with individuality years ago and now everything is either Chrome or Dark Mode. For example, YouTube used to have customizable layout themes before Google bought them. You could have fun color schemes and backgrounds that fit with your channel and video style. Sometimes it looked cute and aesthetically pleasing:

Or you could just leave it as the default. But you had the choice and that added a layer of discovery to web-surfing. (Forgive the examples, but google is trying VERY HARD to pretend that customizable Youtube was never a thing and I’ve been having such a hard time finding images of it.)

Now with TUMBLR, you can still edit your HTML to look like ANYTHING and a lot of people got really good at coding as a result. If you found out that someone you followed had a dope theme, it was exciting just because it was fun and cool to look at. Now that most websites are mobile-focused, they’ve all lost their panache and nobody has the incentive to make individual blogs anymore. And I understand why, but I’m a mad nostalgic baby about it.

Can you imagine if websites started allowing this kind of artistry again? Sure, not everybody uses desktops anymore but it would be nice if your personal social media pages could have, y’know, personality? Your youtube page could have unique layouts, play buttons, video boarders, playlist cover designs (I mean beyond custom thumbnails). Facebook could give you customizability for the design/font of your posts or different ways to showcase photo albums. Hell, maybe even do some fun things with mobile themes, idk. 

It’s just wild to me that websites like Tumblr and DeviantART are the most shat-on websites on the internet and yet they’re the only ones that aren’t forced to be Google Clones. Idk if it’s capitalism or what, but I’m so bored of modern websites. Bring this shit back!

In my area at the very least, and I would assume others. There SHOULD be a drop off point (or more) in your county/city clerk’s office. The mail makes me nervous as I’ve had shipping issues and I’ve always voted in person. Being able to drop it into a designated spot myself gave me such peace of mind.

Also there are sites that can tell you if your ballot has been received (tho again ymm depending on your state) My mother has already been able to confirm that her ballot has been received!
