These are not tumblr specific policies. Tumblr is implementing age verification in response to legislative moves that were made months ago.

Tumblr is a failing social media site that has escaped death multiple times already; they do not have the social cachet to defy state regulatory agencies. We know they won't say no to Apple, either--the porn ban on tumblr was in response to Apple's crackdown on explicit content.

If you did not know this was happening, you were behind the curve. That is fine. You're caught up now. The next step is to link up with people in your country who are working to preserve privacy, to roll back these laws where they exist, and to prevent their passage where they do not. In the US the organization you want is Stop KOSA--in the EU you can start with Fight Chat Control.

Repealing ID verification and blocking chat control will help everyone, especially the most vulnerable. We can push this back, but we cannot get it done through the Feedback form. We have to get it done at the legislative level and lock it down so it cannot be forced upon us. I see lots of anger out there. Good. Put it to use.

Real quick though - I see a common theme repeating of "It's too late for this" / "There's no stopping this." I think about public writing as rhetoric - about language as having a purpose and an impact.

Venting is fine. Framing cynicism as "honest" or "realistic" is ideologically disingenuous and actively undermines every effort to organize. Every time you work for change and work to organize a movement, you must be an optimist, especially when it comes to the impact of many dedicated and motivated people.

For Tumblr - there is one specific thing that can be achieved by feedback to tumblr/auttomatic - get them to change the service doing verification. Tell them that 5CA has a track record of incompetence in this exact realm. At the very least, a different company might treat your data more carefully until these laws are taken off the books.

Local resistance has a massive force multiplier; the more specific your advocacy group is, the bigger the impact you can have. And you can have an impact. We all can.

played sims 4 for the first time and one of the married cis men had a desire to try for baby with his cis husband. i accidentally pinned it and could not unpin it. trying for baby is physically impossible. I tried to use cheats to give him a viable womb in create a sim but it wouldn’t let me do so retroactively. so I thought, maybe if they adopt the want for pregnancy will go away, and had them adopt a toddler daughter. but then the try for baby desire did not go away. since they now had an unwanted adopted child I tried to remove the toddler from the household, thinking this would send her back into the ether. it did not. instead she wanders the neighborhood like a feral cat. i thought the social worker would come and take her back so someone else could adopt her, but I guess there is no social worker in sims 4. so now the neighborhood is haunted by a smelly miserable baby that has no home but cannot die and everyone who sees her is uncomfortable. fucking omelas scenario.
