dclohova:
Antonin takes the offered hand and heaves himself up off the ground with a groan. “I feel like I was turned inside out. This certainly wasn’t worth it.”
“You may have very well been, momentarily. Those spells are notoriously chaotic.”
The seam at Antonin’s shoulder smoulders slightly. Severus puts it out with a dispassionate pat.
“You can color me impressed.”
dclohova:
“In retrospect, maybe that wasn’t the best idea.”
“If you intended to make an impression, I’ll say you succeeded,” Severus says. He offers the man a hand up as an afterthought.

Alana wasn’t even sure what had happened, she just knew that the only escape they’d had was the window. So they’d just…. jumped. She enjoyed the chase, the thrill and had been running along with Severus without a second thought.
The mask made her feel powerful. It made her feel like she was invincible (though she knew full well she wasn’t.) It made her feel like something that wasn’t entirely herself. Part of a bigger thing. Laughter had curled out from under it as the ran. Though, once they were in the safe house. Once the door was shut and it was just the two of them, she pulled off the mask and slid to the ground. Running a sleeve over her face, wiping away the sweat that poured over her from the dash away from the building’s chaos.
From her place sprawled out on the floor, looking over at Severus a grin on her face that seemed unnatural for her. A grin that gave anyone a look into the much darker side of Alana Mulciber. One only few people got to see so clearly. Severus was one of them.
She took a moment to answer, trying to regulate her own breathing. As much as she loved the thrill, she hadn’t run like that even back in school when she’d had to get out of an area before a teacher caught her tormenting a student. Finally she found enough breath to respond. “I’m great.” A breathy chuckle followed. “Are you?”
What Alana had yet to notice was the gash, presumably from the window on the outer side of her forearm, or the matching wound on her leg on the same side.
Severus coughs and spits and wipes at his face with the inside of his sleeve while Alana answers, only barely aware he’s sharing the safe house with another person. Eventually he stands up, tipping his head back to wait for the low ceiling to slow its spin.
“I will be.”
They told him the safe house would have supplies: Food for a few days, medical sundries, a radio. They’re not on the Floo Network--that he knows of--and no owls would be sent. The most immediate goal now was to shelter in place and try not to completely fall apart.
Now that he’s stopped running, every pathetic little muscle holding Severus’ bones together begins to scream; his right knee threatens to give out and starts to throb. He grips the table in the center of the room to keep himself upright and turns to check that his compatriot hasn’t detected any weakness.
“Your arm’s bleeding.”

Clara examines the parchment for a moment then takes the pen, but instead of signing at the bottom, she makes a few adjustments then slides it back. “I want a priority time frame, and I’m willing to pay for it.”
Severus studies her additions to the parchment. One eyebrow arches slightly.
“Very well. Shall I work out a new quote for you now, or simply provide an invoice when preparations are complete?
Prompt 004: True Colors
THE BASICS NAME OF CHARACTER : Severus Snape WHAT SIDE ARE THEY ON / WHAT LEVEL OF ALLEGIANCE ARE THEY : Death Eater / New recruit. –IF ALLIED WITH A PARTICULAR SIDE, WHAT DO THEY DO SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT SIDE? : The recent attack on St. Mungo’s was Severus’ first time actively participating in a Death Eater move against the general public. As a new member, he’s asked to perform odd jobs and menial tasks; he generally does so with little complaint. ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN, HOW DEVOTED IS YOUR CHARACTER TO THEIR SIDE OF THE WAR? : Currently a 9.
narcissawhite:
“I-” she pauses, smiling, “Thank you, Severus.” She exhales, nodding, “I will accept this, as I have-” She shakes her head, “I have failed to do much research thus far. And I would thank you greatly for your discretion.”
“Of course,” Severus says quickly. There’s an effort to be sincere, but he comes across more pragmatic than anything. He sets the book down and begins clearing a space on his workbench.
He’s fascinated, perhaps morbidly, with the thought of Lucius being a father. A strange, distant part of him worries that even Narcissa’s well-contained joy will be met with unwarranted coolness.
“I should have something ready for you within the hour if you’d like to return. Otherwise, I can arrange for discrete delivery.”
claraeustacia:
Clara sees through his feigned nonchalance easily, and her smile softens into something just slightly condescending. “Felix felicis may be a regulated substance, but as neither I nor anyone I am close to is a professional athlete, my purchasing it is completely above the board. I am unpracticed, not ignorant.”
“Of course.”
Severus selects a small sheet of parchment from the desk in front of him, filling out some pre-existing lines and checking boxes. There’s a hint of a childish, unrefined grip on the quill.
“Here then,” he begins, sliding the parchment across the desk to Clara with thin fingers, “is your above the board price and production time. Sign the bottom of the form if this is amenable.”
timor vincit omnia
He’d jumped out a bloody window.
Severus’ breath howls in his own ears, but he’s not taking off the mask. Not until there isn’t a shred of daylight that can see his face when he pulls it away. He needs darkness more than he needs air.
The safe house looks like a shed to prying eyes, accessible down a narrow little corridor between two row houses in an unremarkable street in Stockwell, hidden flawlessly by being unremarkable. The door swings into a much larger space, with a weightless ease that almost puts Severus on the floor. Only once it swings shut again does Severus tear the mask off of his face, splashing sweat on the wood floor.
When he’s sure he won’t retch for trying to speak, he turns to his compatriot.
“Are you--” he takes one last gasp of air before willing his body to breathe like he didn’t just sprint the width of London “--alright?”

swordlesbianism:
Some of you did not spend your childhoods making potions out of random leaves and berries and twigs and just throwing them all in a tub of water and stirring it with a big stick you found and it shows.
narcissawhite:
If it were someone else, Narcissa would not have broken their gaze. There is something about the intensity with which Severus stares at her, though, that makes her avert her eyes. She looks at her hands, staring blankly at her wedding ring. “He does not.” She swallows, “We have been disappointed in the past. I would like to be sure before I steal his mind away from work.”
A single eyebrow ticks up, acknowledging this new information. Without looking, he flips forward several pages in the index, now in search of a different topic.
“Congratulations.” The word pours out of his mouth like a tincture.
“Given what I assume is the rudimentary stage of your condition, might I recommend a simple serum or tablet to quell nausea temporarily? It is my understanding that some women never experience emesis gravidarum, or are able to control it by simply avoiding exposure to certain odors. I’m reticent to burden your delicate system with something potent and unneeded.”
narcissawhite:
Her scowl fades to a frown, “Well, truthfully, I have yet to experience any of the sickness at all. I only refuse to wait around for it to strike. I need something I can take preemptively. Can you do that? It would be a great favor to Lucius, surely you know that much.”
Severus studies her, his dark eyes unreadable. There’s a long stretch of silence--one that someone less clever might describe as ‘pregnant’--as Severus pulls a small, yellowed book down from a narrow shelf and turns to its index.
“I take it he doesn’t know yet.”
claraeustacia:
“I’m perfectly aware that you have a specialized skill set, and I’m prepared to reimburse you appropriately. If you’re truly concerned I can always take my business elsewhere.”
Severus folds his arms over his narrow chest, trying for a nonchalance that his body refuses to sustain: A vulture trying to perch like a sparrow.
“You are more than welcome to find another potioneer--and I assure you it will be no great disappointment to me if you do. But for your purpose...some of these ingredients are highly regulated. Anyone willing to risk working with them will up-charge you to the point of extortion. And all of this is to say nothing of discretionary fees for their silence, should any authorities come to investigate.”
narcissawhite:
She scowls at him as if his words offend her. “I have business to attend to, I cannot be–” she lowers her voice to a whisper, “vomiting every bloody morning can I? I need a potion to keep the morning sickness at bay. I do not care what it costs.”
“Very well. I’m no healer, but I feel obligated nonetheless to remind you that there are simpler, more easily obtained solutions to this highly common occurrence.”
“I trust you’ve exhausted mint tea and water biscuits? Ginger candy?”
claraeustacia:
“Do I look like someone for whom expense is an object?”
“No. You don’t.”
“Which is precisely why I’m warning you. People who look like money is no object to them usually complain the most when something is more than they anticipated.”
I trust you realize that what you’re asking will not be simple.
Or inexpensive.
