this book is to early in for me to decide who to romance yet..... also we as readers know that roman and anastasia are the love interest due to the game's structure and mechanics but the MC does not imo. she still thinks (hopes?) theyre getting married cause they like each other and pursuing either of them seems unrealistic to her at this point in the story.

we know that the MC is a beltavian native but we dont know any town names that I could give her for her hometown. however according to my expert analysis of the beltavian names mentioned (Olafson, Nygard, Swanson, Larsen, Blom), beltavia seems to be mildly scandinavian inspired. so for her hometown i chose "Elsinore", an archaic english language name for the Danish town of Helsingør as used in Hamlet.

on the other hand Gelderstad seems to be dutch ("Gelderland" being a real life dutch province and "gelder" meaning money in dutch; "Stad" being a dutch language place name suffix meaning "town"). we also know that the bodyguard is named Marieke, a dutch name, and Anastasia drinks a drink called "goudanje", "-je" being a dutch diminutive suffix.

speaking of anastasia i picked the third face option for her but i think it doesnt really reflect her personality. shes portrayed as really uptight and strait-laced and i dont think wearing her hair loose gives that vibe. so i made an edit of how i think she would really loo k and also replaced her outfit cause i hate whatever the hell is going on there

loving the royal wedding planner hope it continues!!!! they really nailed the important thing about these royalty stories which is that the fake country worldbuilding and lore and fictional geopolitics always comes before romance/plot. also i shouldve taken screenshots cause the ridiculous ass names of the nobles were awesome

🤓☝️ok so i think the problem with some of the smiles on the ai slop faces is that the machine recognizes that peoples eyes are narrower when they smile, so it lowers the eyelids of the neutral face. however in real life the reason that peoples eyes narrow when they smile is that the smile opens the mouth/pushes up the cheeks so the eyes are narrowed from the bottom up, instead of from the top down if that makes sense. so instead of looking happy the ai slop characters look like they just realized theyre going to get away with killing you

Just found out in Book 3 that Kade has a surname.... Kade Lilborne. Is that the surname of the farmer who raised him? Raised or adopted? Tom Lilborne?? If Kade and MC got adopted by the farmer, that makes MC's surname also Lilborne. Right? Or did I miss something? 🤔

I don't know the final word on this one because I believe it was decided after I was laid off. In the ttrpg companion (which I was a lead on), we just called him Kade of Riverbend because that's who he was in Book 2 when we put the ttrpg sheets together. A surname hadn't been decided at that point (as best I remember.)

We haven't gone into naming conventions a ton in Blades because there was lots of other lore to tackle and surname conventions have generally been the same as they are in Anglo derived cultures. We borrowed the Medieval (slash popularized by George R.R. Martin) convention of orphans tending to have a shared last name to explain Nia's last name as a reference to Ellara, the patron Light (basically saint) of mages. The Orcs share surnames/housenames with their primary (err, really only) parent. Surnames are very complicated among the Elves because obviously each partner has a right to claim the child initially but that should presumably be worked out by birth.

So when it comes to Blades MC, by standard Morellan human (i.e. Whitetower derived) naming conventions, I think we can presume that Kade and MC's adoptive father's surname is Lilborne. As to why we didn't learn that before I think we could say that Kade didn't use the name before because his relationship to it changed. (Perhaps because, you know, concrete proof of the afterlife. ;) ) Personally, I think considering the degree of trauma MC and Kade dealt with at a young age, I can see keeping or adopting a surname being a very personal thing that a man of few words like Tom wouldn't push heavily for with his kids even if he might have hoped that they would someday.

So I think it's really up to your own personal headcanon! Maybe your MC thinks of themselves as a Lilborne, but always wished they knew more about the biological parents they lost. Maybe they prefer to be the Hero of Riverbend/Morella/the Realms much more than being tied to any family or location. Or maybe they're a Lilborne, and that's more than enough.

That is the fun thing about names. They can be the same words yet mean something completely different depending on context. ("Elf boy" or "princeling," anyone?)

my interpretation of kade's surname reveal being Lilborne is that its tom's surname that he took as his adoptive child, which confused me bc i would assume MC has that surname as well. so i headcanon MC as having that surname too bc that connection to her adoptive family is very valuable to her. and the parnassus heritage is a pretty recent discovery so she doesn't feel very connected to it; also being descended from a prince doesnt constitute a legitimate claim to the throne or prince/princess title lol. so she takes "Parnassus" as a middle name(?) in memory of her bio parents but Lilborne is her surname. but then again blades takes place in fantasy land inspired by medieval europe, a place where common people usually didnt have surnames so ig it doesnt matter ?

my MC chose to return to the living world..... maybe i wasnt paying attention but i really didnt see the reason to stay?? i feel like they were trying to do an endless summer at the end of both book 2 and 3 which didnt really work as well cause it was motivated by wanting to recreate the same emotional response and not like. anything really set up by the narrative

i kinda dont like the hairstyle for this sprite cause i would imagine that having loose hair is really impractical for combat lmao ?? in my head she looks something more like this
