Overblot Jack

and everything that entails. Buckle in , there's SO MUCH.

First off, thank you to @soruiru for being my collab partner for @princes-uprising's "Crown of Vengeance and Sorrow" and dealing with my lawnmowner personality. Mwah.

This is a VERY long post.

Staring strong, here's the moodboard for Overblot Jack:

After creating the moodboard, the first thing I did was map out a silhouette. Creating an overall "vibe" for OB!Jack + making him stand out compared to Leona's Overblot, while still drawing on inspiration.

Just mapping out a rough idea but, so far, we have our core themes already coming to play:

1. Captivity 2. Winter is Coming 3. Hear all Evil, Speak None

That last one is a phrase I coined while conceptualizing this design. It will come to fruition later.

First pass:

It's too plain, but we are getting somewhere. First drafts exist for a reason.

Moving away from the clothes, we'll get back to them later, and focusing on the face.

Overblot markings are...elaborate. They have symbolic meaning that tie back to the individual, but also the Disney villain they're based on. Since Jack, within Soru and mine's head, is inspired by Denahi: his markings are inspired by Inuit tattoos.

I liked 3 and 5 the most, so I elaborated upon them some more and...

I soon realized the "V" marking on the head was specifically meant for women and not men, so I went back for a third pass to change it to be anything else. I want it to be inspired but not cultural poaching/appropriation.

So I changed the "V" to either a fang, a claw, or a mountain. I settled on the tri-point mountain as a call back to the Heavenly Mountain from Brother Bear.

Now we have our facial markings, which helped me realized Jack's OG outfit was FAR too plain compared to his face. So I went in for a second pass and...

THERE WE FUCKING GO.

The addition of more black and the elimination of that fuck-ass brown for the shackles + the icy blue colors makes for a MUCH stronger and more stable design. It also help makes the design look that much more sinister and colder, which is what we are going for.

Might as well finalize Jack's facial markings while we're at it:

Minor owl inspiration snuck in, but he's still a WOLF.

TADA!! OVERBLOT JACK IS COMPLETE!!

Here's what his outfit looks like under the furry hood.

Despite being warm, his outfit is supposed to look and feel restricting; as one of 3 themes for his design is "Captivity". There is a reason why, but I will keep it close to my chest until Soru and I get to writing/creating more OB Jack stuff.

I'll get around to posting the individual illustrations for OB Jack once my finals are truly over.

at long last i can share my piece for The Crown of Vengance and Sorrow zine!

this was so incredibly fun to do and when deciding what to do it was very hard to figure out but my cinnamoroll hyperfixation had just started and i went hey! what if i put him in an outfit he'd kill me over?

it was very fun to design his outfit for this, and i definitely stole some inspiration from idol culture for this LOL
