■Asoiaf moodboard: The Merling Queen
¨The Merling Queen was never seen without her Mermaids, four young maidens in the blush of their first flowering who held her train and did her hair.¨
■ Asoiaf moodboard: Alleras the Sphinx
¨The Sphinx was always smiling, as if he knew some secret jape.¨
■ Asoiaf moodboard: Black Pearl of Braavos
¨The first Black Pearl was a pirate queen. A Westerosi prince took her for a lover and got a daughter on her, who grew up to be a courtesan. Her own daughter followed her, and her daughter after her, until you get to this one¨
“It’s just a stupid sword,” she said, aloud this time… but it wasn’t. [insp]

Westeros was freezing. The Gods had turned on us and every great Lord had fled South. Our children screamed as the days grew colder and before long there was no day at all. The Long Night. And then she came, like a miracle. The Last of the Starks. Arya, Queen in the North.
“Mother, father, is something wrong?” It was a rather peculiar occurrence for her father and mother to have summoned her to Lord Stark’s study. She could only recall two other times she had been summoned thus, the discussion of her engagement to Elmar Frey and when that awful letter about Robb had come. “Sit down, Arya. Please.” “Tell me. Is it Robb? Has there been another letter?” Arya steeled herself for a blow. “No. Nothing since he was declared missing.” No news is good news in times of war, she reminded herself. “It is another matter, one which concerns Winterfell.” “And you.” Her mother added, voice terse. “And Jon Snow.”
Robb is declared missing in action during World War I and Arya becomes heir presumptive to Winterfell Abbey as the eldest child who bears the Stark name, until Robert Baratheon’s sudden death prompts a revelation regarding Lady Lyanna’s final wishes for Jon. Downton Abbey AU.
Willas & Arya — Instagram AU
The slim, sad girl who wore a crown of pale blue roses and a white gown spattered with gore could only be Lyanna. (...) The sight of them sent fear shivering through [him] sharp as a knife. He will take your sad grey eyes that have seen so much. | The Lorathi brought the blade to Arya still red with heart’s blood and wiped it clean on the front of her shift. “A girl should be bloody too. This is her work.”
ARYA STARK & LYANNA STARK PARALLELS 1/∞
There is much love between our houses, wrote Shireen in her private diary, and greater love still between Arya and myself. Is it childish to think we who have known nothing but war may find peace at last, or that the strife caused by so many kings in conflict might be brought to an end by two queens? Though the queens were bidden to lands a world apart, the strength of their friendship cannot be disputed. It is said that Queen Arya was always amongst the people, a queen who spent more hours in the homes of the smallfolk than her own castle, with the exception of Queen Shireen’s visits. The two would lock themselves away in Winterfell for days on end, delighting in each other’s company and playing the game of flats.
The North knows no queen but the Queen in the North, whose name is Stark.
Arya stared down at her daughter in her arms, a grey-eyed squalling little thing. She heard footfalls in the hall and the telltale thump of Willas’ cane as he approached. The door opened, Arya looked up from her daughter’s face, and there he was. She smiled, heart beating rapidly.
She had not felt such trepidation in her husband’s presence since their wedding day, when the storm of butterflies in her stomach threatened to overwhelm her. Willas was a good man, the best man she knew save for her father and perhaps Jon, but he was a man still and men wanted sons.
“Are you pleased?” She would not apologize for her daughter like she was some lesser thing, no matter what. Willas took in a deep breath. She braced herself for disappointment. He approached her bed and then cast aside his cane, falling to his knees.
“My Arya,” he stroked her hair and kissed her before casting his gaze down at their daughter, “Our daughter. No man, woman or beast has ever felt such happiness. My heart is fit to burst.” Arya grinned. “Careful with that smile of yours, or your old husband may just fall down dead of joy.”
Merry Christmas from your ASOIAF Rarepairs Secret Santa, @ryswell!
“What is Dorne like?” Arya asked Edric Dayne one day while they camped somewhere in the south of the Riverlands. The stars shone brightly and Arya tried to remember all the shapes Bran had told her they could make.
Arya x Edric for @asoiafrarepairs for the prompt Dorne! (ao3)
