"Stolen Hope"

Heyy everyone! Dropping this new illustration to complete the endpaper set for the Dutch special edition of A CURSE FOR TRUE LOVE by Stephanie Garber! I offered to illustrate this scene, because it's PEAK and because it's another chance to tackle another one of Stephanie's amazing tree concepts.

I usually take quotes from the books to title these pieces, and 'Stolen Hope' caught my eye for a different reason. In context, it was describing Jacks at the end of it all, giving up on any chance of true love or breaking his kissing curse. Evangeline in turn, is stealing back the hope he's lost, and acting upon it herself.

I'm so emotional over Jacks in this piece; the droop in his shoulders and strain in his face just shows how tired he was from struggling so long. He honestly deserves all the apple pie Eva will bake for him in the future.

i just spent 2 hours listening to unethical by faouzia and imagining Maxi coming back to Anatol and reuniting with Riftan 😭

mind you i could just go and read season 2 and see how it happens for real but it’s so much fun

the number of times I’ve stopped in my tracks while reading these books to imagine scenarios with the characters……. aaahhhh the good good times, call me suji kim atp
